DayZ Standalone - Viewing and Object Distance *Removed*
badluckburt replied to zhrooms's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree with zhrooms - if there's a fixed object view distance, please put it a few meters beyond the fog so things emerge rather than pop-up. And the only time a view distance of 3 km and up actually has any use is when you're up in the air, there's a mod for the A3 Alpha that changes view distance when you're in a vehicle or aircraft so maybe they could look into that. -
As long as people keep their settings relatively the same, they should be alright. The only new thing that deals a really big hit is the volumetric clouds. Depending on your setting, it's easily 5-15 frames less. In TOH you can completely disable them so hopefully that will be an option in DayZ SA as well.

This would be a good item for crafting. That way, if someone shoots it, you can fix it. The damage it takes might even be proportional to the weapon used. I'd imagine a shotgun slug doing a lot more damage to it than an arrow which might mean you have to replace more parts on it. Nice idea!

I tried to google some info about his machine and it's probably something like this: http://asia.cnet.com/product/sony-vaio-vpc-eb45fgp-core-i3-380m-processor-2-53ghz-4gb-ram-45543203.htm From the looks of it, I think it's the Intel Graphics and Arma probably only uses 2 cores out of your 3 and 2.53 ghz is not fast enough. You could try updating your video drivers, that may or may not help. The old Intel Graphics chips are notorious for bad gaming experiences although the new generation seems to be a bit better.
-
That looks nasty. What are your system specs and your graphics settings in Arma? I haven't seen this before.
-
Somehow this reminds me of NBA Jam :D

The player's actions of putting down the fireplace, lighting it and putting it out all have to pass through the server at one point or another but true, I'm also not that familiar with Arma modding that I know how much info you can pull from that. There's also performance to worry about, when you start storing every fart it becomes a costly business. There's already constant saving of your character and DayZ is not doing something Arma was built for.

How do you make travel more interesting in Day Z
badluckburt replied to zqpmxn's topic in New Player Discussion
You could always hire one of those Chinese WoW farmers and let him do the running for you, only agree to pay him if he makes it to the point you tell him. Then, login as another guy, hunt him down, steal your own gear, don't pay the guy and hire another one. -
Once Dayz release on consoles will pc be second best?
badluckburt replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
From what I read, the PS4 is going to be alot like a PC. It's based on x86 technology, probably one of the reasons Dean said that it was looking good. It will most likely run the Arma engine pretty good. If only Sony decides to grow balls and adds mouse and keyboard support, there's nothing holding people on consoles back to experience DayZ as it was meant to be. Chances are they will add that support as these new consoles are meant to be 'sort-of'-replacements for pc's for some people so they'll need to offer different levels of interaction. One other sick thing, Wikipedia said it will have two cameras that can track motion. That means they might be getting TrackIR for free, the bastards! ;) -
DayZ standalone inventory mock-up.
badluckburt replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, I think Dean mentioned that in one of the updates, he just couldn't show it yet. If I 'read' the mock-up correctly, it looks like you have to drag them on to the little squares on the right side at the moment. I can't wait to see some more of the final thing. Since the clothes get separate storage, does that mean there's going to be pop-ups when double clicking or do they have another trick up their sleeve? It'll be interesting to see what they come up with. Duh, after looking on the left side I think I see how it works. Select a clothing item and the inventory in them rolls out. I get the feeling that those things on the left and right side have functionalities that are going to be merged so that fewer windows are necessary. -
That could already be added to the mod as it is I think. As long as the database stores when the fireplace was put out and how long it burned, the game can determine wether it's still hot to the touch.

My precious! sorry, couldn't resist

Nice pic, that guy's a killer sniper - image him in DayZ :D. And you're right, I just thought it might be nice to let someone think they got away, only to find out later that they're getting sick.

DayZ standalone inventory mock-up.
badluckburt replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think we won't be disappointed when it's finished. I do hope they slim it down some so it doesn't take up most of your screen or maybe make it so you can collapse the individual windows. I don't necessarily need to look how cool my guy is while in my inventory. -
Am I the only who misread the title and thought he was talking about a disease infected hatchet? Because I don't think that would be all too bad, poisonous weapons have been used for ages. Ofcourse, when you're swinging the old hatchet, you're usually trying to kill someone but say you cripple them then you also give them a disease and run away. They shouldn't be aware of it instantly but it should set in gradually.
-
If he gets a squirrel suit, can I be a raccoon? I always wanted to run around like Mario in DayZ. And, if I wiggle my tail I can fly with helicopter mechanics :D
-
That's true. I'm waiting till I saved up enough to buy a pretty large one. The only bottleneck I'll still have is my dual-core cpu but I wonder how it's gonna run in my machine on an SSD. I might just go for more RAM if I can get a bargain.

Wasteland style objectives.....but done very differently
badluckburt replied to nox81's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There will already be hints at the backstory I believe so it might fit in there but I wouldn't be opposed to no notification, makes stumbling across the stuff maybe even more fun. I was just taking part of the OP's idea to give people objectives. -
2 mins is barely enough for the wood to actually heat up, 15 minutes and it's actually been heated so yeah you're right there. Talk about 15 mins and 30 minutes and the difference is much smaller and the farther along you get the smaller the difference gets. - edit: changed fire to wood
-
I don't think that's such a good idea, as realistic as it may be. If it's ever implemented and I don't think it will be, I want to be able to fake it so I can kill the bastard that's trying to kill me.

Wasteland style objectives.....but done very differently
badluckburt replied to nox81's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There could be hidden stashes around Chernarus, weapon caches, supplies and other stuff you might think of. They did have a war going on before the infection if you keep things in the Arma universe. Searching through houses, you might encounter diaries, maps or other things that point to the location of these goodies. This way, you could just stumble across them or decide to actively treasurehunt. Anyone who played Morrowind will remember that the NPC's used to give you (sometimes flaky) directions and descriptions of landmarks to go on to reach your destination. -
I agree. At times it can be very convincing, the only thing that annoys me that sometimes it gets too dark when you're turned towards the sun. I realise it's to simulate pupil constriction but it's way too much. I have gamma up a few notches to combat it but I hope it will be more leveled for the stand-alone. Also, the blue sky in the screenshot is definitely the sky from TOH and I imagine it'll be tweaked sooner or later, the bleakness of Chernarus is one of the things that made DayZ work I think.
-
If the player was to spawn with a handkerchief or if they would spawn as loot, all he would need is a stick and there's plenty of wood in Chernarus. The hand-kerchief could also be used as a temporary bandaid to slow down bleeding while you rush to find a real one somewhere. Afterwards you'd have to find a new one.
-
There's definitely a point to his post. It's nice to know that it's possible to get 60+ frames in a town. Do you by any chance happen to own Take On Helicopters? I recently bought it, tweaked the hell out of it but still had to turn down the view-distance to minimum to get the visuals I wanted. I wonder how that game would look on that beast machine of yours - there's a demo available on Steam should you want to check it out.
-
Maybe I'm dense for thinking this but wouldn't a piece of cloth on a stick work to gauge wind direction? Not a thing a 'serious' sniper would use I guess but it would work right?
