Dayz SA to be a failure

You keep acting like the majority will not buy the SA even though it offers an entirely different set of features from the mod wether it gets ported to Arma 3 or not, I don't get that. Arma 3 still has the old server structure so hacking will be easy. Targeting the standalone is going to be much harder for hackers, not that they won't take up that challenge, they like it. Multiple options might also mean people get each in their own time which would mean less money lost than you predict.

I'm ashamed to say it myself but the Burt ain't got nothing on Chuck :( -edit: feels weird to say it but I quoted God?

    Standalone Armory

Depending on how things play out, you might end up taking a lot of time to repair a heli and then crashing it everytime you have lift-off if you're not good. Without any means to practice, that's bound to lead to frustration if it takes too long. I do agree with you saying that the helicopters will be the only thing really necessary but people who suck at shooting might appreciate the opportunity for practice. I understand that is fun for some but for others it's not, the TOH flight model is different from Arma's and if you don't know what you're doing without the simulation helpers, things are gonna go awry. It's not like you'll be forced to learn in the Armory, it's just there if you want it. -edit: made a typo, the horror

You know you luv DayZ when....

I would recommend you download DayZ Commander and let it do the work for you. That's what I did after the torrent I downloaded didn't work immediately because I wanted to get my DayZ on!

Either that or he was in Norris-mode

Dayz SA to be a failure

With all due respect, earning a living does not mean it's ok to screw people over to get extra money. If you find yourself in that position, something went wrong along the way. Also, BIS is NOT like the big corporations in the gaming industry - I bet they are gamers at heart, it shows in most of their products.

FPS Problems: The Same Old Story

No problem. I hope you get things smoothed out :)
  8. Thanks, that makes sense. I didn't think anyone would start playing at 500m but if your framerate is that low, there's only so much you can do I guess.

FPS Problems: The Same Old Story

Can I ask for a screenshot of your in-game settings and resolution? My rig is far worse than yours but I run 40-60 FPS with a Radeon 6570. I ran so many tests in DayZ and Arma that it wasn't fun anymore but now my framerate is smooth, it drops a little bit in Chernogorsk but I barely notice it.
  10. Why would you enforce a minimum view distance? That doesn't make sense, you're at a great disadvantage with a low view-distance but that's no reason to force a minimum distance or am I missing something?

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

You have my beans for making my Arma 3 experience even prettier :D It seems that they did some cloud-optimization between TOH and Arma 3. In Take On, going from Very Low to High on cloud detail eats up 15 frames on my machine so I hope they'll use the Arma clouds.

Holding a key to raise weapon? Your thoughts

I'm for this but maybe give it a toggle option? If you keep it for too long, it should go down automatically and you should have shaky aim for some time due to tired muscles.

    My first attempt at Dayz..

Well, maybe he just watched too much Youtube / read too much about it before he could play it. As for flying the helicopter, Armory ftw

    Run slower without shoes on.

If you've walked barefoot from the moment you could walk or at least for a very long time then you will be able to run faster because the soles on your feet will be very thick and hard. But if you're going running through the countryside barefoot while being used to shoes, sooner or later you're gonna get hurt, especially in a forest. Feet that are used to shoes are not built for that. You can run faster barefoot on grassy fields as long as it's just grass and sand but spread some rocks and pebbles around, twigs even and I'd like to see someone who's not used to barefoot running full speed across that.

    Fishing (and rivers)

The boat is slow as hell, at least the ones I found. Topspeed was about 20 km / h. That's not how speed is measured for boats I know but that's what the game tells me. It also makes alot of noise, not as loud as the Enfield but they could make it attract more zeds because there should certainly be a risk involved. Other players will definitely hear you coming, that's for sure.

Dayz SA to be a failure

Private hives won't really be necessary I think. Balance is hard to find but I'm sure we'll get there in the end. The people who play the 300+ vehicle servers or other variations of the original DayZ can still continue to due so as long as those servers keep running the mod. I don't see why you would not want to play something the way it was intended, maybe that's my problem. On another note: we still don't know what's going to be up with the infected in the SA. All they have shown is that the pathing has been improved which makes them much more dangerous already, chances are everyone will be done with KOS because it's just too dangerous and almost certain suicide. Since the performance of the whole has been improved, what if there's a mob of 100 zombies around Chernogorsk? I'd like to see someone fire a shot then. Stealth and / or teamwork will probably be necessary in SA I think, more than they are now.

    Fishing (and rivers)

I don't fish but I'd be fishing in a boat, nobody wants those things because they're so loud and slow I guess but they would actually have a use if you can go fishing :D Rivers would be kick-ass, there are some in TOH (the engine they're using) but those are just textures with a splash-sound attached to them, you just walk on them like Jesus.
  18. Could you try reading the thread next time? If DayZ goes to consoles, it's the next-gen ones, not the current.
  19. I never played that game but the developer / publisher is an ass. This is probably why I don't own a business but if you're sure you won't lose money (meaning the profit you made will cover your expenses) what's the harm in giving a little something back to the people that helped you grow. You have a point there. My hope is that they'll continue as long as they're not losing money, I'm not at all opposed to extra maps as DLC even though some people seem to think they should be released for free. But I don't see them just letting it die, I mean they re-released the original Operation Flashpoint as an Arma-game and the people who had the original could just download that for free.

    DayZ at "149 FPS"

I didn't even notice he had shadows off. Almost everyone gets high fps if those are turned off although they still won't reach those insane numbers. Hey OP, how much do you get when you turn those buggers on?
  21. I'd imagine they'd still add hip-firing when you press the LMB without pressing space first.
  22. How much do you know about Bohemia as a company? I get the feeling you think that it's all about the money for them, they wouldn't be making the games they are if they were.
  23. What if you only limit the max view distance serverside, not the minimum? I'm pretty sure the devs already got that covered. -edit: I see I just repeated RN_Max above me. Have some beans!
  24. Picture someone literally cutting a chainlink fence with a toolbox then read his post again :)
  25. What's stopping you from keeping it raised all the time then? At the moment it's the other way around, you can lower your weapon if you want to but it's up by default. I lower it myself when I'm moving in stealth-mode  Also, the situation you described might as well play out differently. Since it takes time to raise the gun, the one with the raised gun could also warn the other not to raise it.
