Ambient Occlusion is a hog on my setup too, my fps jumps up about 15 when off. I think Dean said in one of his streams that they haven't even got to optimizing client performance yet, so it should be running a lot smoother come retail release which may balance out physics and other stuff going on. It's not so much the physics for me regarding fps that I'm concerned about, more about the actual numbers of zombies in my perimeter choking up my fps once implemented. I really need to start saving for a new GPU and CPU cooler so I can overclock it lol!

Dayz Stand Alone Lack Of Items
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to Bodycount69's topic in General Discussion
Thanks mate will do. I have a second cheapo monitor I use for BF4's battle-screen thing, but I use my tablet with a DayZ app for the map. Just trying to learn it by visual alone though, so I can hopefully in the future pick out a town or landmark and roughly now my way around. Been watching Sacriel's streams too which helps, as he finds locations and tells his teammates where they should head off next. -
Am i the only one with no performance issues?
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to DMstratz's topic in General Discussion
Good (not for you lol) I'm having the same problem too so I know it's not only me. Had it since DB wipe, but I upgraded my AMD drivers and thought it could be that. Mine did run fairly well for an alpha and average gaming PC, but now it drops to about 5-10 FPS for only a second, then jumps back to up to about 25-30. Yeah I saw that video too, was surprised his setup struggled so badly to be honest. -
Dayz Stand Alone Lack Of Items
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to Bodycount69's topic in General Discussion
Some nice tips, my problem is at the moment is knowing my bearings, I see something and go "ohhh a sleepy little town, must be loot here!", next thing I know I am in the middle of nowhere trying to find my way back lol. I'm just wondering at the moment trying to remember landmarks and how to get back to the coast and back up to the airfields etc... That's half the fun/challenge for me, until the game develops more, I am just trying to find my way around. -
Dayz Stand Alone Lack Of Items

Am I missing something, do you know him and are teasing him?. If not, that's an incredibly nasty thing to say. +1 Head up north and get yourself kitted out, beware though other have the same idea so watch out for armed people! -
Reduce triangle counts in cities
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to Frell's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I agree, even people with with decent rigs are struggling to get a decent FPS in cities. I know they haven't even tried optimizing client performance yet, but when they add more loot and infected I'm worried my PC won't be able to hack it lol -
Will different weather cycles be coming?
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to nickholder85@gmail.com's topic in General Discussion
Really? All I have experienced is just normal sunny days. Can you elaborate on what weather systems are already in please? -
[suggestion] Crafting a ghillie
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to ReDim42's topic in General Discussion
I'm personally not a fan of the ghille suit, as I think clothing should be kept mainly civilian based such as the mountain backpacks and bog standard clothing. I think if they keep adding individual clothing elements in it will create more diversity for the character's appearance. -
Suggestion: Write on bloodbags?

Is DayZ going to be on a Steam sale?
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to Naike's topic in New Player Discussion
Walking Dead Season Two is reduced by 10%, so it wouldn't surprise me if SA gets reduced by the same amount by the end of the sale. It may be worth waiting until the sale is over just in case. If it doesn't you haven't lost out, and more fixes will no doubt be implemented for SA in that time. -
Your first encounter with a player in SA
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to Herkon's topic in New Player Discussion
Spawned near Balota, ran up to a player to say hello and to share in the greatness which is the Alpha. He returned the kindness by cracking me round the skull with a blunt instrument until unconscious. What a nice chap. -
Thirsty? Here's the solution!
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to iAwesome's topic in General Discussion
Nice one thank you! Only problem now is finding out where I am. I usually end up in the middle of nowhere lol! My last character however, I gave him two full canteens of fluid and the orange marker saying 'thirsty' was still there. Think it may of been from my character transitioning between updates though so will try with a new one. -
Grey, grey and more grey..
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to Frescomax3000's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah I agree, I'm all for regenerating health over a long period of time, but I need to know via an indicator or temporary placeholder that my blood level is increasing (in general knowing the real time level would be nice too), it at least separates features from bugs at this stage. Once the game is stable, the indicator can be removed, amended etc... -
30-35 FPS in cities, 40+ in small towns and 50-60FPS in the woods. However, zooming in on a city the FPS drops to around 25-30. (Fraps) Z77 D3SH Mobo 8GB DDR3 Ram Sapphire 7850 2GB OC Edition i5 3570K (Stock) It's one below 1080p, as in the cities it's drops below 25 and it's a bit stuttery (especially around those tower blocks). Ambient Occlusion set to off helps in FPS increase. It does like to turn on automatically when playing with the settings though lol The FPS does seem more consistent though than the mod, however it may be because there aren't't many infected pottering about. Hopefully it will run better further in the dev process.

Here is mine, found some loot on a dead player who had a tin opener!!! That has literally saved my life hahah. Then made my way to the airfield and got a few more goodies. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=204785397 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=204785431 Edit, how do I embed the images in the actual post?

My first impressions - DayZ Mod Vet
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to Sterling (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I have to say I'm extremely impressed by the amount of accessible buildings are in the game. I really didn't think there were that many, but it makes searching a small town so much better, going from house to house and seeing what I can nick is great. I personally really like the zombies now, they run much more fluid and generally behave better with the environment. I feel that my player is a lot more fluid when moving and transitions between standing, crouching etc feels much more streamlined. Select weapons when moving and using the space bar to hold up an item works great too. I'm most impressed by the UI though, especially considering this is only the alpha release. I have noticed a few bugs where just a white model of the item stays in the quick bar that's no issue really. I really like the colour coded hints when dragging an item over another. I like that now you can swap out a backpack and easily drag and drop items from your old one into the new one and also replace parts of a weapon by simply dragging and dropping a weapon butt over your existing one. The UI is really well done. My only gripe is selecting items from the quick bar as sometimes it takes a while for the animation to kick in (such as drinking/eating) and selecting weapons. Sometimes I cancel it not knowing that it's about to kick in. -
[SA] Anyone find bandages yet?
nickholder85@gmail.com replied to octarine's topic in General Discussion
I came across a dead player in a barn. He had a bandage, other than that I have been tearing up clothes for rags. He also had a rifle, pistol, blood test, food and a tin opener! Good times :) -
I thought that also, but never bought a pre-access game before so wasn't sure if that's the going rate. I imagined it would be around £10.00 - £15.00. Sold some CSGO stuff so that got me a few squid lol
-
Just bought it on Steam! Downloading now at 4.8 MB/s!!

Is the game from the BI Store activated via Steam, I think it worked out to a couple of quid cheaper on there, can't check offline ATM How big is the game?
-
I did, thought it was a wind up at first, but nice one :)
-
Is this the real deal yeah? It was only a couple of dayz (get it, eh?, ah forget it) ago I started watching Rockets live stream which got me in the mood for DayZ, found a really good vanilla server too, now this is out!?! Getting this far but then it times out :( EDIT, It's on Steam!
