  1. Usable fireplaces in the houses which have them, with smoke coming out from the chimney! Smoke could be visible to other players to counter the benefit of using an in-house fireplace for cooking and warmth.
  2. Steam just updated DayZ roughly 6.x megs, anyone else got this? Couldn't see any announcement, was wondering if this was of any significance. :) In game version still says 00.30.113938
  3. Just checked my DayZ properties in Steam, it's selected as 'experimental' but I'm sure I had it on the regular one. It select the drop down arrow either. Wasn't there two types, experimental and regular or something? Edit: Only three servers show up in the browser, filters all set to default. Edit Two: Restarted Steam, was able to select regular beta in properties and it's rolled back, now can see all servers so must of been downloading an experimental build.
  4. You should post in the applicable forum then mate, this for the standalone game only Epoch Forum: http://epochmod.com/forum/
  5. Your original post was responded to: from: funkyfrogjuicewrong forum mate this is for the standalone try here http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/10-support/
  6. Yep I agree. I think (although this would be down on the list of priorities of course) that they should add more history of the events leading up to the outbreak. Really like the idea of a medical lab things, would be really cool to find one where there are unique zombies in NBC suits or medical attire. I hope they add small details unique to towns or even houses which tell individual stories, like writings on walls, notes left behind, photos and pictures on walls, something to add uniqueness to different areas. They could, for example, have boarded up windows or a small town which was taken over by the CDC (bio-hazard symbols and yellow tape for instance) for testing/isolation (think of the film Outbreak). They could add things which set the 'scene' that something bad went down, like the residents upped sticks and got out of there quickly leaving things how they were like a time capsule, letting the player make their own mini story about what happened in that house or town. Like I said this would be way down on the list of things as it's purley cosmetic, but I think it adds a layer of ambiguous back story where players can fill in the blanks. More Zombies will help when they are implemented too, as now the towns are a bit empty but will seem a bit more living (or un-living lol).
  7. I think once a player respawns quickly after death his old character gets removed from the map (please correct me if I'm wrong on this). From watching YT vids it looks like people do this as a last F you to the person who killed them so they don't get to loot the body. I'm sure this will be fixed though so your body and inventory stays for a certain amount of time.

    playing alone

I have been playing alone since launch mostly (that really sounds depressing lol!) mainly because I'm using this alpha period to familiarise myself with the map and features etc.. Although I would like to group up with some people so I can loot towns and take down bad guys with some back-up. If you're in the UK feel free to add me, may not be on loads though as in my last year at uni and it's busy at the mo. I use a mic etc... http://steamcommunity.com/id/nick85
  9. I would of thought repairs would be implemented eventually, good idea about combining two manky old jackets to make a good one though!
  10. Huh? Is this new? I don't remember seeing that. I have the hunger, thirst and sickness icons in the UI, but never seen 'regeneration'. Does this appear as well? I may be being thick here lol! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=207168566 Running 0.30.113918 Cheers :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: Ah! Never knew that existed! Thanks guys!
  11. Yep spot on. We are currently learning about BI in one of my modules at uni, and it's been drilled into us that getting a solid framework down first is top priority, the bells and whistles can come after. No point in trying to jazz up a crap foundation. This is what Dean has been talking about and I think this is why on the face of it, the alpha is basic from a players point of view, he's been getting that back-end system working right, the rest can come later.
  12. That's the spirit! Nice one :)
  13. I personally like the third person view as I find first person is very spongy when moving and hard to navigate. If they have third+first and first person only servers then both camps are happy :)
  14. Hello, I was wondering given the build of the game, would it be possible to have items mounted on walls and doors in the future? I think these sort of things may be cool and more realistic when searching for items and to encourage full searching above eye level. Raincoats or hoodies hanging on the back of a door (maybe not as doors are not static objects) An axe or old rifle hanging over a fireplace or on a wall in a barn? Being able to pin notes to doors, fences or walls? (My favorite :) I think that would be cool, a warning sign to any other players not to enter!) Being able to place items on walls, furniture? (Imagine being holed up in a cottage at night and placing portable lamps or torches on a wall) Also, what do you think about utlising fireplaces already in a house? It would remove the need to collect wood and stones to build one in the woods, but the downside would be that although you can light a fireplace in a house, the light would spill out of the windows and possibly smoke from a chimney? This may sound like a sitting duck, but if you're freezing and/or have people with you to defend, it could work. I may be too optimistic in this but though I would share anyway, let me know what you think :)
  15. Cheers, I would love to be able to pin notes to doors and walls, leaving red herring notes for an ambush or telling your story so far!
  16. Yeah I think Rocket said or wrote that animals are sounding like zombies at the moment which may explain why you hear them out and about. Soda cans sounds can be heard (I think the noise is global so everybody hears a can being opened). If you hear ammo or gunshots though I would be cautious as this may be a bug or it may be someone about to take you down lol!
  17. Yeah, that's something I'm most impressed about. I didn't think that many buildings were accessible until I started roaming about :)
  18. Hahaha wicked, never knew that was there!
  19. Happened to me the other day, thankfully my original spawn wasn't miles away from any towns and I had only just started playing. Must be a pain in the arse if you are all the way up north.
  20. Yep defo, would really like this in, as it's a pain to have to circle a whole building or compound to find the exit. Using it could also make a lot of noise and take a small amount of time to leave the player exposed and leave an obvious trace of player presence once cut. Edit: maybe even with the possibility to clip tie/duck tape it back up like they do in the Walking Dead in the Prison? Could slow down trackers or remove any presence that a player has been there.
  21. Hello, I never really played a lot of the mod but I knew that it would rain now and again, don't know if that affected your player or not though. Will different weather types be coming into the SA at some point? Was hoping for big thunder storms which would look really good seeing bad weather systems rolling in when looking out into the wilderness. Or high winds which would howl through all the open buildings. All these effects then having a knock on for your character (like staying out in the rain too long would make your player cold and damp). Has any of this been mentioned by the devs? I know we are a long way off, but having unpredictable weather patterns affecting portions of the map would be cool. May make you think twice before heading off somewhere if there is a storm rolling in and you only have thin clothing/limited supplies.
  22. 3 can openers! I have only found one in my whole play time!
  23. Two M4 mags strapped together I found the other day, that was pretty cool, I also found a yellow weapon or storage case or something but it was knackered lol
  24. There is food to be found, but it's sods law that when you are armed to the teeth you can't find a tin of food anywhere lol. Make sure you check the cookers too, as I'm sure I've found tuna on them before, but its hard to spot. I wish we could eat those plump pumpkins growing in the gardens!
