  1. i understand that... i kinda want to get it out there if there is any thought in that direction Thx for the reply and I didn't look at the public hives that way. True.... it would all depend on server admins to be fair on each server... and we all now what sort of problems does that lead to. Public hives do mess up the balance of the game that it was supouse to be... I mean its not realistic in any way that you can just teleport to another universe away from trouble.. I am allways thinking in direction that you should play on the server that you started... since just turning off public hives is not that simple and could lead to even greater problems. Maybe a way to somehow give incentive to play on same servers is sort of shelter building later on game development. But that depends in wich direction do you want to take the gameplay.... as you said limited inventory is about making choices, there is strategy to that.... its doesnt have to be about settling down somewhere.
  2. And of course i will play on hardcore servers... anything else is easy mode... favoring campers and people who want to stalk and kill other people without being exposed...
  3. Anyways... If anyone wants to talk about this topic... I didn't want to say this is the way the Dayz should be... I am just saying way I see things that would improve gameplay In my mind if rules are the same for everyone than its fair. Im not saying that playing 3d perspective is wrong. I enjoy it too. Even in other games sometimes I would press num enter for 3d person so i can see over the wall. I guess i should of used word balance. 3d perspective just encourages camping because campers are protected. Anyway you look at it..... looking over anything is impossible without exposing your head or using something like stick, mirror and chewing gum. People complain about KOS, campers, snipers that kill new spawns.... well first person would make it much more difficult and you can actually spot your enemies . Unfortunatly Arma had 3d person from day one so dayz inherited this and everyone got spoiled. and want people to stop KOS but they dont mind to make it easy for them cuz they want to be in same protected position. I understand that Dayz devs dont want to piss everyone off... and I doubt they will ever remove 3d person.... I am just saying I would do it for the sake of the gameplay balance and realism. Yea a lot of people would be upset for the cheats to be gone... like server hopping and ghosting... and comfortable no risk 3d person camping. What they would get is much better experience that they didn't know they could have. As i sad I would leave to the server owners and modders to enable or disable cheats like 360 aerial cameras, (wich are especially unrealistic and unfair in vehicles).... In vanilla version I would care more about balance. Wouldn't it be cool if you could have ingame mechanic for 3d person... like finding a smartphone and a drone P.S. Only argument I've heard for public hives is that you cant play with your character... either because server is down or full or just because you dont like playing at night. Well you would have multiple characters... and it would probably force you to play more on the same server. That is a slight inconvenience oppose to sever hoping, loot farming, ghosting and servers dedicated to duping and gearing up.....I would rather be limited to one character one server than have so much cheaters running around..... that are just allowed to cheat by the game system. Not to mention that game development would be faster because they would have one less perspective to worry about.
  4. Admin please.... change the topic and delete the "If i was Rocket" line ......its just heading in direction of arguing..............or should I just make a new topic
  5. Christ..... OK To everyone that reads this post... I am truly truly sorry for mentioning Rockets name in vain. But I was just trying to start a discusion.
  6. Thank havens we have such eloquent admin... thank you for you insight. I do apologize for my stupidity.... I didn't know that suggestions go into suggestion forum. For such diligent admin ...Heavens thanked.
  7. I am a dayz fanboy if there ever was one. Played it from the start of the mod, played all mods and all maps, I made my own 3D models for dayz Origins... been playing nothing but arma or dayz for the past year and a half. Anyway... this is my list of suggestions... things I would do if I was a dayz developer. I will not get into details of game mechanics just general changes to gameplay. I think it would deal with some of dayz problems. 1. No public Hives! Think about it guys, there is no real purpose for public hives to exist. They produce cheaters... people who server hop and loot military places over and over again and than dupe the body on empty server.... no problem dying. And worst of all its totally unfair to people that actually run around and collect their gear. Ghosting? server hoping? gone... with implementation of private hives for all servers 2. Random Events This is really really important part of the gameplay. For me in dayz mod there were 3 most intense things... player encounters... visiting NWA... and finding a heli crash site at night. There is nothing like wondering off in wrong direction and than finding a crash site that no one saw yet. I think Standalone should emphasize on random events that would be different after each restart what would give much more encouragement to explore the map even if you been there 100 times. These could range from traffic crashes (trucks with supplies)... abandoned camps.... survivor/bandit NPC camps.... plane/heli crashes... boat wrecks... indoor events like boarded up farm with some half eaten survivors inside... zombie infestations/rescue missions (rescue npcs or kill them for loot).... NPC bandit road blockades. 3. Zombies When you think about why a few zombies would be dangerous its because they can grab you and the others can catch up to you. That is their only real weapon. I really don't know why dayz zombies were never been able to grab... trust me... a few would suddenly become a problem. You should be able to knock them back with melee attack but they should be able to stack up on you. 4. Gear storing system Anything really.... just not those lame tents. you can see them from mile away and just pick up everything. Crate in the ground... stash of any kind... something. Storing supplies is a part of any survival, and it adds some purpose to loot runs 4. First person perspective only Whatever the reason someone has for 3d person 360 aerial camera. Its just not fair. Think about how unfair would that perspective be in a game of Counter Strike. It would be impossible to defuse a bomb as a cop from 3d personing terrorist campers. It translates the same way to dayz and it would actually deal with a problem with KOS. It would level out the playing field cuz you would have to expose your self to see an area. Camping and killing players would be a lot more challenging and realistic. First person is not perfect... you lack some peripheral vision and some senses... but its most immersive, most realistic and most intense way of playing Dslyecxi made a very nice video... i would recommend for anyone that didn't see it. I would make vanilla Standalone First person only. (I would left for the moders to change it if they want) But that way not only do you get more imersive experience with first person... its fair... its how its supouse to be Now imagine a first person server... private hive of course. You have your own stash of supplies somewhere. There is a low spawn rate of zombies on the cost because they can grab now... just to get players chance to gear up. Since there are NPC bandits and much more dangerous zombies after you to the north... teaming up with another player would actually be a good idea. Various random events would provide a different run each time you visit same places. First person would provide intense experience and would require a lot more skill to be a bandit to KOS... it would create the need for medics and heroes. Eventually vehicles and shelter/base building would provide content that you have to take care of so there would be the need for builders At least that is what I am thinking....

Why you need DayZ standalone argue points.

Well, for me... I must admit that I am serious Dayz fan boy and I will probably get the SA no matter what. But I have my doubts and I hope that Rocket is really using the support he is enjoying atm and that he is gonna deliver... but it has to be some point in the near future, cuz time is not on his side... mods are gonna walk all over SA if he keeps up this pace ... Chernarus plus is awesome cosmetic rework... but its still all too familiar chernarus... mods have Namalsk, Taviana, Takistan, Podagorsk, in arma 3 Stratis and Altis.... and all the vehicles with better physics... I'll just have to wait until the proper release to make my judgement i guess... how will zombies or vehicles preform in SA is a big question mark

Why you need DayZ standalone argue points.

I have opposite problem... 5 of my friends bought arma 2 just because Dayz and they loved it . At first they all said they are buying SA 100%... right now... they lost faith in Rocket or SA, and said they won't even buy it, we all already have arma 3 and looking forward to Arma 3 mods. For SA, my friends feel like they are gonna get a buggy game ... with no vehicles or mod support. I myself (big dayz fan) have my doubts... mainly because Rocket seems lost in all the work... with all the promises, and than quickly changing to "i don't really know"... SA list of features is very short (compared to mods that you can already play) I mean SA could sink like a titanic if Rocket doesn't deliver on those few features.... and they have to be spot on, to justify the long wait and the lack of vehicles and other features... It would seriously suck if the zombies didn't really work properly, or game would eat up your FPS with all the zombies at once on the map ( I am not even sure i like that idea of limited zombies... once you clear places like airfield... there wouldn't be any zombies there, not sure if that is a good thing). I would say hold on till after the release before selling SA to your friends... cuz right now SA has only list of wishes... not features.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

Ok... whoever said Standalone is conspiracy is an idiot... might as well say its made by ancient aliens... it has as much sense. Incompetence? Certainly not... they shown that already.... But patience is not the key... the key is actually the opposite... it's the pressure and impatience... Pressure keeps you on your toes... setting dates keeps you in check. Not meeting deadlines creates some disappointments but makes you understand better the amount of work that you have, which will help you to set realistic date. In my mind... you simply must have a deadline. Any kind of professional... anywhere... in any line of work... has a deadline Otherwise... you can just take a two month vacation in the middle of the project and all the hype, and say ... fuck it... I didn't set the date for it anyways... I can use some R&R. If it was me... I would hold on long vacations for after the release. I would set a new date... get much more in touch with the community, and got that alpha out with these zombies as they are... I know rocket is hell bent to get those zombies spawn on start of the server... but Arma 2 engine is very bad when it comes to realistic physics...... I would ask myself are that zombies worth postponing the game for years. Zombies are not even in top 5 most important things that Dayz has. They set the theme of the game but they look totally buggy, choppy, pretty bad actually... they have no real effect on you like grabbing, you can't push them or affect them, when they are attacking they look like they are doing spaz dancing and you are loosing health in the process. And with all that we managed to get crazy about the game. It would be nice to have zombies act like they would in GTA... but Arma 2 is not engine for that. They should of focused on Dayz strong points and improving general gameplay... Realism and simulation of survival.... to improve cooperative and competative play... to put new ideas on the table... and real new gameplay mechanics You got to give players something to do other than looking for a new gun... maybe developing industry of dayz... to allow players to make anything... even custom cars. Planting vegetables for food. Claiming the house ... boarding it up and calling it your own... just something new. If rocket thinks that people are not gonna go around shooting each other KOS style... he is wrong... its vanilla dayz... its already been tested out. What will you do once you get bored of zombies... SA is all about collecting guns and attachments... I mean for a survival game there is not that much survival elements...

I understand that you don't care... but its kinda been like a hobby of mine these past months... I enjoy modeling for dayz and I like to test out the new mods and see new ideas. I actualy care about how Dayz Standalone turns out. But you are totaly right, Rocket owes us nothing... he doesn't have to do anything.... doesn't even have to finish the mod... on the end of the day its just a video game right... there will be plenty more in the future

What is this new content that you speak off.... new buildings? some medical items? cooking stuff?... Buildings are allready there it all looks great... I mean Chernarus is allready playable... Look past the graphics for a moment. How big is he list of items/features that will be implemented "when its done" ... and than take a look at list of stuff DayZ modding community has right now... just saying that and awesome potential could be unused. Strong point of DayZ is not the zombies... it's player interaction, PVP, and awesome arma ballistics. Dayz needs stuff to do besides searching for a better weapon. If the new zombies are such a monumental task that you dont see the end.. change priorities... they looked fine to me in dev video.... add real survival elements... nature survival, more interactive environment... focus on dayz strongest point... not the zombies with very questionable result it seems... cuz Rocket even doesn't know what year it will be finished in.

You can allways say one date.... and than come out and say listen people I underestimated the amount of shit we have to go through and we are working on it esitmate at least a 5 monts of work or something.... Just be honest... and leave an impression that you actualy know what you are doing and that you are on top of it. Its been a year into standalone development... Rocket should have a grasp on ho much work there is to be done... at least a year it will be done in.... something other than... "when its done"

Not having a date, makes people lazy....plain and simple.... with the whole laid back attitude... it could be a very big build up to ok-but-not-so-great payoff.... after a very long wait. And the arma 3 dayz would be a thing to play... with all the new maps... content.. custom bases and vehicles... weapons and stuff.... who knows... maybe they make such an awesome zombies you will want to play new Chernarus more than month... because not much gamplay difference has been made... much more are done on the free mod... much more people involved... could be a better game in the end.... ...or maybe I am wrong...

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

Well to be honest... my "problem" with what Dean Hall said or did comes from: The first time I played Dayz (since I played EVE-Online) I was really excited about the game... I felt so much freedom in gameplay, got me scared for my life and a such a breath of fresh air in a sea of Call of Duties. Totaly struck a cord with me. And the best was the posibilites of the MOD due to Bohemias awesome mod support. Right than and there i knew i wanted to do my own stuff for Dayz... and I did that... at the moment I am working on Post Office for DayZero http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/Grima/Postoffice02_zps42aaf7f4.jpg So I am really excited about the whole Dayz "thing" ... and leaving my mark on it... at least somehow I know how shit works in arma 2 engine and I know they took a monumental task with the zombies and loot spawns all spawnig at once. Not really sure how well that will work at all... good luck with it... I will be impressed. New Chernarus looks really good. It has such a good natural update with Dayz in mind. Who ever did modeling and design really knows what he is doing. I was impressed. And I know architecture , modeling, texturing and photoshop. I don't mind the delays, I dont mind 20-30$, I understand the development problems... and the millions of ways that shit can go wrong that you didn't count on. I just expected rocket to be a little more passionate and to share a lot more with the community... Just take a look at what the community did for DayZ... how much people that are excited about the game can actually do... Its not about the problem Its about how you react to it ... I just wished that Rocket didn't take the "it will be done when its done" route... opening a game for closed alpha to community members who are will to help in development is awesome idea if you ask me.... In my opinion not even Blizzard or any other dev team can match entire community. And DayZ has awesome community People who apply for the alpha will understand that the game isn't finished... no one would get disappointed, so much more shit would get done... I am the first willing to model stuff just to see my stuff in the game... but no... "it will take a while" and "when its done"... Just a little disappointed I guess...
