Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
Big Bear replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Most people can hurdle a waist high picket fence IRL or even a one hand mount over for fences, logs sand bags etc hey if weight affects running in game later down the track then it could effect jumping. Which to me makes a fair trade off are you hauling a ton of gear to a new base etc or doing grab and run of Cherno I think it will add game depth and change up strategy When you have no gear it would be great to have a small Sprint/Jump advantage especially when you start the game and collecting first tier survival gear from towns. -

Some people want immersion some want to play BF3 I mean competitively... I like the Idea of radios as the game grows people will find Servers that cater to there playstyle. I for one play for immersion and have a good time kicking around looting hunting animals and picking off the occasional bandit. And would use radios to broadcast to legit survivors who want to play along for a while or attract hostiles unintentionally which is why I play the game I like not knowing if you get a round in the skull or make a new buddy to cruise around with. Radios will act like a meeting point which I fully endorse and im sure Bandits will love tricking unsuspecting prey using their good guy voice over comms. Radios will be fun I believe there should be no chat in text format. Voices Only you can grab a low end headset for 10$ and if you want to use 3rd party TeamSpeak Skype then use it. -

[Guide] Setting up an Xbox 360 Controller for DayZ
Big Bear replied to Mucwa's topic in New Player Discussion
Thanks for the post very helpful :) I love how the "PC Master Race" gets all in a stir when control pads are ever brought up like many I started with a NES as a child and grew up with controllers in my teens I was swept into the Counter Strike Phase. Then back to PS2 Xbox etc. Who cares how people play as long as you are eating beans and having a great time. PC Gamers can sometimes come across as "Hipsters" not all just a few fan boys. Lin said it best for myself as a grown man with a high risk job and hectic social life nothing makes me better than kicking back with a headset and controller in hand looting the general store and collecting vehicle parts not all of us play to be L33T HAXZORS. Valve knows whats up pretty much if not all there games are controller supported. Thanks again for informative Post "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY BEANS" -

Stay Positive people and show some restraint it wont be long we will all find out soon. For the Adults out there who actually work or have family commitments this time of year is still a little crazy. No Update so what go for a walk and clear your head it doesnt matter we all know its a matter of days or even weeks and we will all be jizzing for joy with the release date or new info. Chin Up People show Rocket and the Devs why we are a strong Mature community. What im saying is anyone can sit back and criticize (Flame) over the little things be constructive with your feedback and we will have a game for the people like it is ment to be :)

It was Night time so I thought easy loot. Made my way up the hill was darker than normal due to all the trees. Got down low by the gate. As I made my past the zeds at the front gate I got cocky so I thought I would run around crouched. Slowly began to rain my position was given away due to the gravel drive way. Headphones were maxed out the Z next to me let out a horrible aggro call when i went to run Zed broke my leg I had a whole spawn bash me to death. The rain just added that sense of foreboding so there I laid bleeding out alone at the top of the mountain in the cold alone. I have been taken out a few ways but that one is still the worst :'(

All that being said I have died many times asking "You Friendly" but worth the time when you do team-up with a genuine survivor the way I see it Bandit "Easy Mode" Hero "Hard Mode" -

I disagree with the whole Kill or be Killed as a genuine "Friendly" I enjoy the team building aspect and have had some great outings with guys/girls ive met in the wild. Building legitimate in game relationships and sharing loot watching each others back. But Bandits make the game fun aswell and I still have an open mind to a persons own playstyle hunting survivors is a way to gain loot but I just think there is more to this games potential than a "Snipe Fest" or flat out backstabbing seconds after meeting is really predictable. Killing a survivor for no reason I havn't done that but getting that Bandit whos been sniping innocents in Cherno highly rewarding especially when you break there legs with a hatchet first :) I play with a real world attitude if I see someone minding there on business collecting supplies I really dont have the need to shoot at them just because I have better kit at the time. And I think that really reflects the personality behind the keyboard. and yes I help old ladies cross the road IRL and give to charities haha. Or this might aswell be just a BF3 map with zombies and snacks thrown in. The whole shoot on sight mentality is pretty boring building teams then hunting High Threat Pro Bandits thats were the fun is for me. And I look forward to melee weapons so when I can get personal with you Bambi hunters :P But the beauty in this game is "How You Play" I respect all playstyles but not a fan of hacking just breaks the game I was immersed in -
Full controller support for standalone Day Z (to Rocket)
Big Bear replied to carlonblackwell@yahoo.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Typical Wannabe "PC Master Race" Bullshit always makes me laugh whenever you mention gamepads to PC Fanboys. Most people grewup on Nintendo or Sega. This thread makes me laugh a guy asks for a personal preference that has nothing to do with them and people cry a river LoL Ahhh Internet you entertain me :) -
My Kingdom for matches as a Solo Forest dweller they are my priority after I get my Hunting knife. Only time you see me near Cherno is Match hunting at the supermarket "ANY MATCHES IN CHERNO"

Good things come to those who wait... To quote Shigeru Miyamoto "A delayed game is eventually good; a bad game is bad forever." I believe people should really back the fuck off Rocket and his team. From my experience as a professional actor luckily I have the easiest of creative development in my opinion anyway. Film scripts that are good can take up to years followed by extensive PreProduction Filming etc we all know it takes time for things of great substance to be made. No this isnt a movie what I am getting across is these guys have immense pressure with little funding I have been apart of the Indi film scene for some time and when money is lacking things may take longer and unforeseen problems arise like any form of creative art. Even AAA Studios encounter problems which they remedy by throwing money at which DayZ Dev from my understanding do not have the luxury At the end of the day I take my Hat off to Rocket and Co have a little empathy people secondary December is a crazy fucking time of year for people professionally and personally Thirdly Blood Pressure is no joke and to the adults on here with high risk or mentally strenuous jobs im sure you will appreciate his situation. I am an impatient guy myself and hanging for this but if we all show a little maturity and patience it will be well worth the wait go for a walk or find something to do for a few weeks before we know it we will all be dodging bullets and Zeds in Cherno which i look forward to doing with you guys :)

Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
Big Bear replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Read my mind guns should be rarer than what they are. the setting says it all if you want to run and gun this isnt the game you should be playing. The weight of power should feel dramatic when you upgrade from say a Hatchet to even a standard side arm rifles and machine guns should excuse the reference be "end Game" just meaning extreme luck has shown down on you and you have found an automatic weapon or else the game will be nothing more than a snipe fest. as an Australian we have very few gunstores and really nobody owns guns thats what makes the whole Apocalypse idea so appealing im not against guns at all i just believe that if you find a firearm it will make you cherish it and also make you a target anyway just my opinion. I really enjoy the survival hunting gatherer aspect of the game and random encounters make it more special when you end up helping each other. Plus for people who play as Bandits which is I believe is a very viable play style after earning something powerful will make them a much greater threat which is exciting -

oh God Yes Jizz... Anyone hear anything about Bows or compound bows? be great for hunting which im really enjoying just be great to gather without giving away your position. Plus I like playing a Forest Dweller really adds to the "Survival" in the wilds vibe. and a Machete as a tool and weapon would be fantastic. -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
Big Bear replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Firstly amazing list well done... Just in weapon list Bow and arrows with a sheath and compound bow would be great not only for battling zeds silently and bandits but I enjoy hunting game and not keen on giving away my location primitive weapons would be great also :) -
I switch between both for different situations that call upon different perspectives. I say leave as is or Servers that cater to your play style. I like to admire a new back pack ive obtained and my Avatars sculpted glutes from time to time among other things :P

I have only got into this game casually playing for a month and just started getting more involved recently. Its is Fantastic like most people here I admit I never played the ARMA 2 game or even knew about it till I found out you need it for this. And at this point I am a self confessed Bambi but I still love the shit out of this game its trial and error everyone knows the feeling of just finally getting your kit together and then chewing lead from a bandit its what makes the game so immersive. Im not flaming here either put in the hours to brush up on it or go play CoD or Halo like all the other Casuals its Simple what helps is actually playing the ARMA 2 Bootcamp and playing its Campaign that experience alone has doubled my knowledge of the engine and its commands I highly recommend you play ARMA2 Happy Hunting

Something that would be great implemented later and what Rocket himself brought up is transference of real world skills. rocket hinted at underground instances for Bases etc It would be great if you could build from scratch I see alot of materials in game that could be looted Bricks Wooden support beams tin sheeting scaffolding etc I understand they are for show at this point but the challenge being farming enough materials to actually secure a location would take many trips but also be rewarding later in the future. As a construction worker IRL be great to use my skills in game. Making things above ground later down the track would be amazing having to have your friends watch your back as you build a watch tower bunker etc. I understand there are limitations but building things from in game materials would take game-play into great depth. Apologize if thread is previously posted

Hey no worries mate thanks for the info im new to internet forums and all the rules but look forward to watching this all develop into something truly amazing

Zombies - Making them Harder / only killable by headshots
Big Bear replied to Paddy0610's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the idea that body shots will stun or incapacitate but head trauma kills them at this point Zeds are more annoying then an actual threat they def need an upgrade Vote 1 -
Glad i found this thread was going to say the exact same thing Upvote from Me :)
