As I understood it, he is talking about putting that jacket into his backpack. Therefore there's less space left for another gun. What also implies that he is not only thinking about cooling off too much, but also overheating, effectively not be able to simply put on everything better you find, but in need of different clothing on sunny days compared to rainy ones or nights.. As an ex soldier, (and assuming I understood that part correctly) I love that idea. Beans for you, good sir.

DayZ 2017 first impression.
Joe Freedom replied to Serious Stan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I ran from Electro to Cherno and I was almost out of meat, so I had no real choice but to ran over the fields. It was dark night, so I had a chemlight in my hand. Suddenly, centimeters from my foot, a bullet hit. I instantly dropped the chemlight and ran further into the dark, just to circle my way back up north to the place I suspected the shooter. A few meter up the hill, I went prone and further shifted my position. Then I looked around, holding ALT, so my character would just turn his head, not his entire body. I had a little conversation with the shooter in side chat, but besides that, nothing happened. About 10 minutes later, I saw his silhouette running past me. I instantly tried to aim at him, but in that half second it took me to aim my weapon, he already disappeared into the dark again. Another 10 minutes later, I proned up that hill, slow proning, so my aim would stay study, and left through the woods. I am JoeFreedom, the shooter was battlechip. This is the story how we met in DayZ 2017. If we had met in ordinary DayZ, I'd just went on running. I'd have assumed, he got NV Goggles. Most likely getting me shot. I really prefere this kind of low tech survival style. -
DayZ Standalone . Test Period .

Duke Nukem style answer? When it's done. -
Than this will blow your mind. One person speaking 4 different languages. Man glaubt gar nicht wie oft dies in DayZ notwendig ist. Aussi mon francais is très mauvais, il aide. Nihil latinum dicit, pro fine veritate.

That's not just poor, it's cheating. Effectively, you are teleporting. It's a survival game. If someone has a sniper, it's getting really hard for you, but that's no reason for cheating. Just get the hell out of there or try to close in cover or from a different direction. I once closed in on some AS50 guy unarmed, climbed up the ladder behind him, approached him silently, took his MP5SD from his backpack and ended that bandit with his own weapon. Really proud of that. No teleporting needed.

I've just been wondering. One less known fact is, since the early medieval times, churches are orientated. Effectively placing the main gate at the west end and the altar at the east end. This is done in order to have sunlight shining on the altar for the morning mess. Who's able to read German (and understand what he just read), can get more information about that in this wikipedia article. Or simply look it up yourself, if you don't speak German. Anyway, I am wondering if this is correct for the different DayZ maps, too. I am going to try to confirm it everytime I hit a church or a monestary. Whenever I do so, I will post here which churches are confirmed. But I am far too lazy to open up Chernarus in the mission editor and simply check it out, so if anyone like to do so, to confirm it, be my guest. And if anyone of you can confirm it for the other maps, please do so. I will update this first post with confirmed churches. And by the way, since sunrise isn't exactly east, the doors still may be off my 5° to 25° degrees. This should still count as "confirmed". Confirmed churches so far: (The letters are referring to the door direction. Not the direction of the altar. List is organised alphabetically.) Chernarus (43% orientated so far): E - Berezino c (checked it out myself) W - Cherno South West Church (checked it out myself) N - Elektro (thanks to Krihelio) S - Krasnostav cs (checked it out myself) W - Mogilevka (thanks to Axe Wielding Musty Train) S - Novy (thanks to bluecrackers) W - Progorevka (thanks to iegle | he said he was pretty sure, further confirmation would be nice) Key: c=closed cs=refers to the closed church model with wooden stairs in front of the entry.

Who ignores a mean to survive also deserves to die. (PS: The opinion shown in this comment is related to 'in game'. I don't say you deserve to die in real life.)
-
Nice. So far, 75% of the churches are orientated. If that number keeps up, it will be a nice addition to orientation in this game.

Well, it was emotional rollercoaster reading your suggestion. At first I thought, end goal, no way. Then I read about scavenging for a locomotive and just thought: LOCOMOTIVES!!!! (By the way. I like trains.) My next thought was how everyone would have to start fresh, using that locomotive and effectively losing all gear, so it would be costly to get a new skin and that's quite cool. But they just pitch some tent and get their valuables back right afterwards. But then I realised the big bummer. It's a skin. We already have different skins. Like hero skins and bandit skins. And it sucks. If you wear something really cool and I want to wear the same, I kill you. Well not personally, because I am a nice guy. But if I kill you in self defense or because you startled me or some other mistake or if I just find your body with a sweet, sweet skin, I just really don't get why I shouldn't be able to take it from you. If I can't steal it, it makes no sense. Hate that with bandits and so. But if I can steal it, it makes no sense to earn it on my own. So basically I don't like your idea. Sorry pal. And it's not only the wrong reward. I also think some way of ending it alive would violate the spirit of DayZ.

Most definetely! But I don't play russian campfire roulette with noobs. Only player allowed equiped with some sort of high level military gear. I am talking about AS50, NV goggles or guille suit. Something that will be painful to lose ;)
-
That's exactly what I am talking about ^^ Thx for the story
-
Exactly. I'd be dissapointed if the majority of churches would face the wrong direction, but I wouldn't lose too many tears about it. But if it helps me orientate, it's worthwile knowledge.

If third person was removed from DayZ...
Joe Freedom replied to Imafighter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I do prefer 1st person only servers. Give the game much more immersion. But truth to be told. Arma2 is not designed to play it 1st person. For starters, fix the damn mirrows. There is some reflection, but you can hardly see anything in them. I know there's a mod that fixes that, but I don't know if the DayZ servers are compatible or if it will get me banned when I use it, so I don't right now. Then, doors need to be fixed. You shouldn't be able to run through doors like in a "real" fps game, but it's also unrealistic to assume I am stuck in a door because of my backpack and have no idea how to move to get on. Entered enough doors with a backpack in my military time to know, it's far easier in real life. Also, gras is somewhat of a problem. There's gras in front of me. I can't see anything. What do I do? I lift my head. Doing some kind of a half push up. I don't get into kneeling position, exposing my whole body because of 5cm too high gras. And I can't hold a chemlight without almost blinding myself in first person. Chemlights are really annoying in first person. So, even with all these mistakes, I still do prefere first person over third person. Also, I also sometime really like to take a good look at my character. Add mirrows in buildings, I'd say ;) -
Okay, this happened around 4:20am GMT+1 on US20 Dr_anthony posted a thread on this forum, looking for clan members, to which I responded and briefly after, I added him to my skype contacts. We started playing and he was well equipped. They all were, but so was I; that didn't make me suspicious. What made me suspicious was, after he crashed his chopper and we all died. He instantly stated, he had a new chopper. This hit me twice as strange, since I found a UH-1H in perfect condition on my spawn place. And we just crashed in one. So, basically, I thought, oh he's a nice guy, let's give him the benefit of a doubt, but I also thought I really have to check if the vehicle count is raised on that server. Also I really felt joyful about stealing some poor bastard's chopper. Anyway, he and the others of his clan logged of shortly after and went on to play some other game. The other new guy, who also responded in that thread, that I am going to link at the end, and I stayed on and used that chopper to get some gear from Stary and NEAF. There we met Dr_anthony again, he flew over us in his chopper. We got some extremely good gear (suspicously good gear) from some bodies we found at NEAF and shortly after, our chopper crashed. Bad piloting on my side. Well, I asked Anthony via skype if he could pick me up and get me to the crash side. The other new guy already ran out of time and already logged of. He said, he'd pick me up in 5 minutes, but 5 minutes later, he just stood in front of me. No chopper, no other kind of vehicle and I didn't see him coming, he just stood there and spawned a medical box, filled with all sorts of weapons and all sorts of ammunition. (5 of each weapon, if I recall correctly) Then he told me, it's okay, he's server admin. I asked really, he answered: "Really" Then he disappeared. 20 Seconds later, I got a message in skype, I should only take what I lost. And I told him, I was googling the server, trying to find a list of official server admins. I failed to find it, by the way. He got angry and told me: "a fucking hacker logged into the server and killed everyone so i am offering some people back there stuff. dont want it. fucking leave" I answered him: "hey, don't get me wrong, if it is true, it's great, but if not... see, if you're a server admin, you should appreciate people being cautious, shouldn't you?" Next thing I know, the skype logo on him changed, effectively meaning I am banned in his contact list. So I think Anthony is a hacker. Also, look at the linked thread, he states he is unsure which server he wants to use. I do have a screenshot of that, that he plays on all American servers, not a prove of his guilt, but strange, connected to the claim, he's an admin. Also when I came on in skype and asked for the servers, he said "It's US20, isn't it?" So, he asked the others in the conference call if he's right. Strange for an admin to not know his server's name. Well, I think I got everything covered. Just a data sheet with all relevant data left: Link to the "looking for members post" http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/117739-forsake-the-fallen-clan-recruitment/ Ingame name: H|E|R|O or H.|E.|R.|O. (sry, not sure) Server: US20 Ontime: From around 1am to 4:30am GMT+1 with a little off time in the middle. I do have his real name (thanks to skype), but I think it's inappropriate to publicise it here, so basically, if you need the real name you need to do three things to get it from me. 1. Write me a pm. 2. Prove you're officially involved into the DayZ Mod project. 3. Explain to me why you need the name in a way even a thick skull like me understands that it really helps you to ban him.

Forsake The Fallen Clan Recruitment
Joe Freedom replied to Oliver Riedel's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
I do have a decent ping to some American east coast servers. Especially one private hive in New York is pretty good.. Anyway.. let's try this I like to apply to your clan on trial. I'll send you a pm with my skype name. -
Forsake The Fallen Clan Recruitment
Joe Freedom replied to Oliver Riedel's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
Almost everything sounds pretty good. Except for the group assaults.. Shitty name.. Grunts would be far better.. But that's not really important, is it? Well, anyway, I think about joining with you guys, but you failed to mention your area or the servers your mainly on. It is of no use if I start shouting "PICK ME, PICK ME", just to realise, I've got a 500ms ping on the server you are going to play on. EDIT: PS: By the way, do you guys know RaidCall? I was in a clan once, that used it and it was very decent. Plus, everyone can create a kind of a "server" for free or at least so was I told by the clan leaders back then. Worked quite well. -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
Joe Freedom replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Okay, here's a suggestion of my own. I have read the main post and the start of the fight right after it, but I didn't read all of what followed the next few pages, so please excuse if this suggestion has already been made. As a former soldier, orientation is much too simply in my opinion. The major three parts, I'd change would be: 1. Electricity is affecting your compass. I know, most power lines should be turned off in DayZ, but if you're near to some strong electric power source, it should draw the compass needle towards it, leaving a very slight possibility for players to completely lose themselves if they are near them while checking their compasses. 2. Change the cloud movement. Always moving east is too much of a give away. You shouldn't be able to rely on that. 3. Let us check the wind direction. Important for trajectory of snipers and it can also tell us how the wind smells. Like an option, with a little wet finger in the air animation that ends up with a message like: "The wind blows slowly from the 3 o' clock. I smell salt in it." (Telling us the sea is at roughly 3 o' clock) or "The wind blos with quite some force from 7 o' clock. I can smell burned wood." (Could be a campfire.) If someone's cooking some meat, it can be smelled for some time, making it absolutely sure that in the last 5 minutes (for example), there had been a player (or still is) at 7 o' clock in a max distance of 500m or something like that.
