  2. Well, you both are right - we have a lot of DM due to zombies not being a threat. Though as I said, it will be your choice to team up for better\more loot and risk getting shot, or loot cars and sheds, sifting through trash and canned beans on your own. The variety and ability to choose is always good. And I think that "well, just make the zombies good" is a bit shallow. At the moment the map is just some geometry with loot, cars and zombies scattered around. The places described in the OP will make the world more interactive, while making players to team up for some cause.
  3. I'd use bullets as currency since it's already confirmed that mags will be treated as containers, so you'll be able to play with the rounds as much as you want. On topic - glad it's confirmed. Hope we'll get the variety. Only cards is dull. How about a chess deck, checks, or jenga twister ... well, snakes & ladders would be also fun to find. I think it's pretty immersive and adds some things to do between scavenging and running for hours. I had some fun playing those various tabletob games in AC:Revelations, so, as Day Z is all about interactions between players, the games would fit in very well. Yep, making the decks and sets not full when you find them might bolster non-hostile player interactions as well. You will definitely won't kill for it, but asking another survivor to trade out the part that you need will be interesting. It can easily be achieved by splitting the sets into quarters, so you can find 1/4 of a deck, 2/4, 3/4, or a full deck if you are very lucky. If we'll have various games, people would trade. So in fact it's a good idea for a mechanic that wouldn't be CPU intensive and will not require a lot of work from the devs - it's mostly textures and simple scripts that can be borrowed from some flash games. To that concerned little guy who spent two posts to reassure us that he would never ever ever play such thing inside DayZ: Yes, I wouldn't like devs to spend all their time on arbitrary things instead of making robust AI, adding new gear and updating graphics, but the game will become frustrative and repetitive very soon if it will be watered down to ratrace for finding gear, running for miles and shooting newspawns in Cherno.
  4. Well, OP, that escalated quickly. Just imagine: I walk through the woods and see a guy in a ghillie with NVG and AS50 aiming at the cityscape.... Oh, of course it's a friendly soul, a helping hand that saves those bambies in distress... ... ... No. I would totally assume it's a fucking bandit scanning for fresh spawns to kill - why would he have an AS50 and ghillie otherwise? And I would fucking shoot him on sight. If you want to be a hero - learn to survive, get some decent assault rifle or LMG, go to the city and help them survive - talk to them through direct chat, gather some people to make a group. Sitting in a ghillie with n AS50 and then bitching about bandits is just hypocritic.

  6. Seeing people over walls you can't reach over (and yes, you can't.) and around the corners without exposing your head at least is not "awareness". It's bullshit, and nothing can justify it in a game where staying hidden is the key to survial. So no - third person was ok in arma at some point, but there is no place for it in DayZ. At least in it's current form.
  7. You bought me here. I liked this particular thing in Left 4 Dead so you wouldn't just fall off the ledges due to lack of tactile self-awareness you have IRL. Would be perfect if chances you'll get up depend on your physical state and weight you carry so in certain situations you can hang for a minute or two and climb up yourself and in others you'd fall 10 seconds after and would need someone's help to pull up. You should control it though: If you hold down vault\jump button you don't grip on the edge when you cross it. You can let go if you press "S" (or any backward movement key you assign) Serously, we need more of these things. Some areas you can only access only with assist. More reasons to team up. Ability to save your friend while sacrificing yourself. That's awesome. Hell, we had it back in CS 1.6, why not have it here? Heheh, might be pretty funny at times. But yeah, use it by doubletapping "forward" while prone will let you crawl like that. If foliage draw distance will be fixed this will help a lot. Well, yeah, it's more of a fix though. Using some kind of hand-barrow to carry someone at the jogging\walking pace would be good. Meh, you can program your mouse for that. don't burden the devs with it. Yeah, so called "Last Stand" pose. I find it a good addition since aiming 85 degrees up while prone looks really awkward. Might be good as another reasong to team up. Staying warm for example or handling shock faster without any use of drugs. There might be one problem though... Cool, but I'd add things like "quiet", "cease!", "Can't understand" - check out basic tactical hand signs, you'll get the point.

  9. You are. Why? it was said above - arma was focused on large scale warfare in the rural area. That's why the question was only "How much you can carry" since everyone has pretty same loadout (the only option is backpack). In DayZ you start with no eqipment at all. You wouldn't normally have a tac vest for example (unless you play paintball for example, but that's another case). So at the start all you have are pockets on your jeans and jacket maybe. Different clothes will have different layout and amout of slots, thus you'll decide what to wear cosidering the gear you want and the mobility you'll need. It's far more engaging than a generic 20-slot grid.
  10. This one is the best. The only thing you should have fixed is "directories" appearing in once piece. So when you click on head you can just see everything equipped on head. This way you won't have to sift through a dozen of windows of "eyes", "wrists", "coat", "boots", etc. Pick my previous post for referrence. This way instead of 22 popup windows you'll have 5. Also: minimize the equipped item icon as in "coat" slot - don't draw a huge picture of the item equipped. Just make a small icon with stats popup tablet, and just display the slots layout, similar to your frisr concept. Don't listen to carebears and people stuck in old ways! progress is future! Also, WE WON! Check out the last SA update video! Every clothing item will work as a container! We'll see such system in the SA! Hoooraaay!

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

    Nice. Really nice. Finally more things added for survival. And yeah, rabbits now have a purpose (btw, rabbit meat is deemed to be very healthy IRL so it's safe to assume it gives much more blood. I just think it shouldn'[t give a lot while raw) Can't understand people bitching about coyote pack - if it's 6 weapons OR 24 slots, it's okay. You can safely stuff 6 rifles in it and it will weight around 45kg then, so everything's fair. The only thing I would change: empty cans should drop on the ground after being eaten. If I need one to boil water - i'll just pick one up.

    Postapocalyptic slavic country half-rural area.... SUDDENLY! Goldbars eveywhere. Also: I'm a suvivaalist, I run from zombies, carry a bunch of guns and ammo, have to carry all that rare and scarse food... sure can carry some additional 20kg of gold with me.

    Well, it was said that HUD will be simplified to add up to realism. My say is - remove the crosshair. If you want to run and gun - learn to. If you're not too good at it - don't hurry, it's gonna get you killed, and use ironsights.

  16. Well it is detailed. I had to describe the mechanic in detail so the community and hopefully the devs will see how this can possibly work. Sure, I could cut it down to "so I want a melee combat system where you grab onto eachother and trade blows, so the one that loses falls. Anyone with me?" but that wouldn't really help anyone. The whole system consists of six moves which are based on your common control keys, so everything is pretty intuitive. I can be quite of a task to implement, but it won't be hard to use. Well as we discussed above - Chivalry is a fencing simultor, that's why they have a lot of various attack moves. In my opinion we should keep this system simple as melee combat is one of the essential parts of survival (alongside with shooting people in the face), but not it's main orientation. And secondly I wouldn't like to overburden mouse, as we already have context menu on it. Any thoughts why (space, Rclick, Lclick, shift) wouldn't work well?
  17. Skins are dumb. Rocket stated that humanity system has to be revamped. Exactly. Or a heartbeat you hear when approached by lost cause murderer. If it can still foul you (appear when approached by a friendly person sometimes, or do not appear when approached by a murderer), then it will work like a hunch you have.

Well this seems to be a good idea provided Rocket mentioned contagious areas in the interviews (for those who don't remember - if people kill a lot or shit a lot in the area you are more likely to catch a desease in there). For those who think this will stress the harware I can tell you it's not a concern if adressed properly. -Footprints for example can be processed as beams from point to point and then drawn over terrain on client's machine like trails are drawn in Gmod. -Decay and garbage can be made into variables assigned to certain zones, so the more people kill eachother and litter the more garbage and gore there will be. So we'll have all the garbage we want without stressing the servers with hundreds of individual garbage objects. Всем DayZ, посоны.

    Clothing in the SA will be random, so no more insta-glue halloween costumes yelling "LOLGUIZE SHOOT ME, I KILLZORD 3 PEEPS NOW (no matter those 3 fuckers tried to ambush me and got what they deserved)" out loud. Hopefully.

    Ha. Ha. Ha. Like anyone gives a fuck about humanity. Seroiusly, if I fucked up that hard that I've let an enemy into a 30m area around me (the distance of the xbow shot), I'll be glad that he didn't make me lose all my gear and just took a small portion of it. Quit whining about humanity and "poison-spamming". A real asshole will not bother with ineffective xbow and will just shoot you from 0,5km away with an AS50. Then you can stand in the middle of nowhere naked, soothening yourself with the fact he lost some humanity.
