What do you guys think of Vanilla Dayz?

Vanilla DayZ mod is where it's at honestly. The scope of what you can do and how each life can play out is amazing for me. I've been playing for about two years and each life still retains as many electrifying moments and nerve rattling encounters as my first. I don't plan on buying the SA until it becomes more polished, but I've got nothing against the progress of SA and people that play it.

    Bandit Challenge

Not well. I (luckily) found some poor bastard getting mauled by zombies, legs broken and crawling away from the horde eating his feet. I waited it out until he died, then went up to his body and found a winchester with some ammo, beans, and 1 bandage. I used the winchester to shoot at a car that was coming and blew it up, then I killed another man who ran up to the flaming wreck foolishly. Then I got killed by some white knighters prowling the cities killing bandits.
  3. I dont think this would be a good idea. Mainly, I think that players that have become zombies wouldn't necessarily attack players and might just go to their friends and help them as a zombie. Or they would just kill themselves to become human again. Then there would be people that would purposely become zombies every time just to help teammates or troll players. It MIGHT add a little more challenge, but you could just do that by addressing the main problem of terrible zombie AI.

    Choppers should have parking brakes

Yeah, I think that that should be in the game, but only on choppers with wheels, because you don't use a parking brake very easily on a helicopter with skids... Actually, how about this: on every vehicle, give the option to "Park Vehicle", (only usable on a gentle slope so you cant park it in air or on the side of a building to prevent exploitation) and then it won't move along the ground unless it gets destroyed or you "Unpark Vehicle"? Seems like a useful addition, considering that most of Cherno isn't flat.
  5. Wow, I think this is a fantastic idea! There is a lot of potential for this idea! There are thousands of untold stories in Chernarus, from disaster to triumph. I might consider joining...
  6. A river. No, really, that's what I want to see in Chernarus. Just a central, wide river that you can take boats up and down on. Also bridges across the river so you can get vehicles across. This would be interesting because you could create 1 or 2 very large concrete modern bridges with lootable buildings on both sides of the river and bridge, and it would become a very important strategic location to control. Then, you could add small, wooden bridges periodically along the river to make it possible to cross without going into the meatgrinder that the large bridges would be. Possibly make these smaller bridges destructable, or have the option to like, set the bridge on fire, with a pack of matches. Really interesting to think about.

    Reinforceable Vehicles

Glad to hear it! I really think that this should be added anyway.

    Reinforceable Vehicles

This is just something that I was thinking about as something that I think would make sense and add to DayZ. What if we could use (after our vehicle had been fully repaired) extra parts, like scrap metal, to beef up our cars? For example, if I had a fully repaired sedan, and I had 2 scrap metal on me, I could have the option to "Reinforce Bumper" or "Reinforce Frame" which would make the sedan more sturdy and able to take collisions better than normal. Or I could "Reinforce Wheel" with an extra wheel to make my sedan's wheels be tougher and resist bullets a little more. Maybe even an "Improve Engine" command that would take one engine parts and add 10 kmph to your top speed I think that this would satisfy some of the people complaining about how fragile cars are, and it would also make vehicles somewhat customizable, and more add more value for a "Souped Up" car. Plus it doesn't need a new item to make it work. Of course this wouldn't necessarily apply to aircraft, seeing as they are already quite powerful.

    KoS, an examination

I put quotes around it for a reason. I'm not saying that I believe that killing on sight is a problem with the game, I'm just repeating something that I've seen said a lot.

Is the term "bandit" losing meaning?

I was driving in an old hatchback between cherno and elektro during the night, where there is that high ridge along the left side of the road when I saw something ahead of me. Using one of those crashed humvee models, some bandits had made a small barrier out of tank traps right at the end of one of those mini-bridges. While I fumbled around trying to turn with the bridge struts on my sides and the tank traps penning me in, 4 bandits ran out from the darkness under the bridge and pointed their guns at me. The leader talked over direct and told me to turn my engine off and put my gun into the gear slots of the car, and get out and go prone. If I didn't, he said that they would kill me and I had a choice of either death or losing a car and a gun and living. So I did what they asked seeing as I would die if I didn't anyway, and they shot my legs out. I got knocked unconcious and they bandaged and dragged me under the bridge. While I was out, he told me that they were taking the car and leaving, but that they were leaving morphine and a cooked meat under the bridge next to me. Nice fellas really, most people would just either shoot me in the face, or spray the car and kill me. Plus I didn't really mind losing my car and ak74 because I found a bike a little down the road hidden in a pine tree.

    Attack Helicopter while sniping.

Welcome to the forum! I see you've had an encounter with one of DayZ's skidddies

    KoS, an examination

Yeah, if someone decided to click and blow that newspawn away and 10 minutes later the Red n' Blue came speeding up to their house, I think something would change pretty fast
  13. With the advent of DayZ version 1.7.5.1, there has been a lot of argument over whether or not the update solves any problems of DayZ. One of the problems that someone is almost certain to bring up is the so-called "KoS Problem". I'm going to retain a neutral standpoint on this issue to try and eliminate some bias for the reader. Some people say, "The new spawn system and way that [zombies] swarm makes it so there is no reason to shoot the [zombies]". Other people cheer, "[These] new difficulties sound great...[they are] exactly what I'm looking for in this game". This is in regard to zombies being changed for better or worse. Only a fool would say that removing zombies entirely would be beneficial to the game, as DayZ is built around the idea of a "Zombie Survival" genre. The way I see it, there are 3 conflicts in DayZ: Player Versus Environment Simple enough, this category is the most encompassing, and makes the game a "survival" type game. This includes water, weather, disease, height, terrain, obstacles, blood, food, temperature, etc. This also includes the struggle for resources like food, water, weaponry, ammunition, and other items spawned by the game (not player dropped). I would argue that this category is the most important, as it defines 100% of the time you play the game and requires the most attention. Any action you perform in the game will depend on the environment Player Versus Player This category is by leaps and bounds the most talked about, and it helps to add a significant amount of challenge into the game. It also is very important as it creates competition for resources, adds fun and entertainment, and keeps the game fresh and new every time you play it. This includes killing other players, banditry, competition for loot, competition for vehicles, following players, taking resources off of dead players, giving blood, giving assistance, interaction over chat, and any and all interaction between two players. This category is hard to make generalizations with, as it is the most variable between player depending on how they view other players and their style of gameplay. Most of the time, this category defines around 5-45% of the time you play. Player Versus Zombie Unique to DayZ, this category is quite popular to debate and distinctly separates DayZ from any other game. This category includes killing zombies, being killed by zombies, interaction with zombies, the "Ear" and "Eye" indicators on your HUD, any movement, any decisions made that are influenced by the presence of zombies, I'm focusing on the Player Versus Player category, and killing on sight comes up often in Player Versus Player conflicts. I've come up with, in my humble opinion, a pretty complete list of why exactly players kill on sight. -Little to be gained from contact with other player -High risk of death from contact -Choose one: High reward for high risk (Killing on Sight and taking their gear) or Low reward for high risk (making contact and possibly trading) -Not being able to trust someone you've just met -Lack of time (if you only have 1 hour to play then you are not generally going to try to make long lasting alliances) -High entertainment value -Competition for loot and resources -Main risk in game (makes players want to "beat the game" by beating the biggest risk) -Zombies don't pose enough of a threat to force teamwork and cooperation Now I'm merely trying to explain why people Kill on Sight, not saying that DayZ needs to have loot piles paving the streets, zombies that see you from 10 miles away and can kill in one hit, or players invincible to other player's damage. I'm trying to say that PvP is a necessary part of the game and that removing it or limiting it will destroy a fundamental challenge. Killing on Sight is simply a natural behavior that people will do for the above reasons. Killing on Sight can't be fixed by changing the game. You need to change the player to stop Killing on Sight. If you don't kill on sight, if you try to make contact first, if you try to change yourselsf, other people will change along with you. My hope with this post is that people will change their habits to create a more interesting, varied, and fun experience with other players in DayZ.

    Day Z Urban Legends

I have one. I was walking the woodlands somewhere south of Devil's Castle, looking for deer stands. It was around 1 a.m. in the game and it wasn't too dark, but I still had my flashlight out because I figured nobody would see me this far out. I aggro'd a zombie and I ran a little bit before I saw a black tunnel type thing going under a hill. I went inside to try to lose the zed, but he followed me, walking. This told me I was in some kind of building, but once I went inside it became really hard to see back out the way I had come. It was pitch black inside, but for some reason my flashlight wouldn't work in here. No problem, I had seen other places where flashlights didn't really do anything. I continued in, farther. I hadn't really noticed the sound because it had been so quiet, but the farther I walked, the louder it got. It was the sound of a man screaming, as if his flesh was being torn apart. Only as I walked farther in did I realize that it was not just one voice, but several screaming, tormented wails of agony. Several turned into many. I was thoroughly creeped out at this point, and I asked over direct chat if anyone was around me. I got an un-named reply, saying "We are many" in a raspy voice. The mic then became a terrifying screeching howling noise that made me jump out of my seat and turn my volume down. Then several new mics came over direct chat, each with a higher and worse screaming. I remembered I had some road flares, and I quickly lit one up and threw it ahead of me. It hit a solid object half a meter from me and bounced back. I aborted in a heartbeat and almost screamed. Later I logged back in and I was standing on top of a hill, with a flashlight and road flares under my feet.

    DayZ needs more guns

I think that more guns would be a fine addition to the game but I also think that more equipment would diversify the game. More explosive consumables, like molotov cocktails, satchel charges, and maybe even traps like trip wire triggered grenades. How about adding body armor items? A plate carrier that reduces high powered rifle shots that would normally be 3 hit kills perhaps. One thing that I think I would be defiantly against is a skill system. Anything resembling leveling up, reading books or undergoing training that gives you better stats of any kind would be a poor addition to the game and remove the major aspect of learning through experience. You know a veteran dayz player because they are just as deadly with a double barrel as a noob is with an as50.
