First of, this is an idea to a project thats been brewing for some time and if the general interest is good we hope to be able to start working on it. Right, together with my former patient and now trusted companion Fraggle; we are working on setting up a few camps across the map on our home server containing various medical supplies and some camps containing basic starting gear for those unlucky enough to get slaughtered on their way to a waiting patient. Our idea is to stack up on the regular medical supplies, basic gear like handguns with a few clips and some survival gear. Stash it in select locations both along the coast and further in on the map so that any medic interested can stop by and refill their stores or get a boost on their way back after dying. Obviously this project might take some time depending on the availability of tents and how quickly we manage to stock up on everything. So, who will be informed of the locations (apart from anyone who comes across it and decides to raid it)? - Whitelisted Medics and Trusted Medics of the Wasteland - Anyone trusted by said medics That being said, the camps aren't limited to just medics needing to refill their stores, anyone able to fulfill the above criteria would be more than welcome to grab whatever they need to ensure they'll survive the first 20 minutes after washing up on the shore. As you've guessed by now, this will have to be based on the assumption that not everyone is a giant bastard that'll take everything and run. So I'm well aware that some sites might be completely ravaged by the time someone gets to it. And before you scream bandit.. please don't. I would not propose a project like this just to have a tool to trick people. Any ideas, comments, questions or suggestions would be more than welcome. A proposal to fellow medics
trimethylxanthine replied to trimethylxanthine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sure thing e47! I'll do a quick list for now and update it later when I have the details on medical equipment in front of me. Depending on what time will allow this weekend I will attempt a few runs to various hospitals looking for more supplies. Here is a quick list of the things I wish to stock up on in terms of survival gear: Hatchet Hunting Knife Binoculars Matches Canteens/Soft drinks Map Compass Food The next part is a BIG "if" really. Stockpiling weapons is something I personally have some problems deciding on. Seeing how the idea is to give any freshly spawned medic a chance to get back to their patients quickly a weapon would be nice to have, but my issue with this is related to the following: Are we gun runners? Will this practically result in us arming the coastline again, effectively turning back the time to the old Makarov/Revolver days? I feel everyone should be allowed a fair chance to survive, but I'm afraid this will attract the wrong crowd. What and how much? Personaly I wish to limit the weapon side of the project down to the bare essentials. Meaning that what we store in terms of weapons will be some form of handgun, nothing more! What we hope to create is a lifeline for medics and a tool to give others the means of survival, not warfare. As a side note to this is that those who are directly informed of where to find the sites will also be informed of what should be there for each piece of armament. I've mentioned this before and I'm leaning to the point where any one camp containing weapons will be down to the following: Revolver - 1/2 magazines M1911 - 1/2 magazines Makarov - 2/3 magazines M9 - 2/3 magazines Again, this is not an armory its an aid station or soup kitchen if you like to call it that. Now.. have I forgotten anything? Feel free to give me any input. Before the question is raised I'll speak my mind right away: Q: "Why don't you consider storing backpacks in the camps?" A: We don't know who is going to come across it by accident and again I wish to stress that the idea is to have a place where you can get back on your feet. Stockpiling backpacks would likely give the same effect as hoarding guns, we'll bring around the wrong crowd. Another point and more importantly really; the less you can carry out of a tent located near the coast, the less maintenance will be required and you are less likely to grab more than you need when your capacity is limited. One wall of text later and I'm done. As always; input, mockery, flattery and PMs calling me a jackass is more than welcome. -trime -

We have had a few problems getting everything up and running, things ranging from us getting shot, camp raided, sasquach frequently visiting our tents for a late night snack and last but not least; dying in an exploding car. However, with a bit of a lucky streak lately and some lovely support from the people who have gotten in touch with Fraggle and me things seems to be back on track. Quick update on the project: Status: In Progress. Medical stockpile: Full Basic stockpile: WIP Tentcamps: currently limited to basecamp Transport: Check Tents: Large supply on hand All in all we are ready to send the first couple of guinea pigs into the field. Hopefully at least a few of these will survive and remain as semi-permanent locations. I don't want to move the camps around too much unless they become a favored target on the server(s) they are on. Hopefully the guinea pigs should give us a decent indication. Once the first camps are up and running we will update the thread and most likely inform some of the nearby medics of the location. Finaly, thanks to everyone who has offered to help so far! Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet up with all of you over the weekend and we can start setting things up. Thanks again! -trimethylxanthine -
Worst Way You Ever Died

I play the game together with a few friends and as a consequence we use teamspeak with a plug-in that gives us an overlay in the game showing who is talking. A server I visited detected the overlay as a script and kicked me. On any other day this would have been just fine. (Said plug-in gives a warning that this might happen, so I can't be angry for it :) ) This day however I was driving a Pickup filled to the brim with weapons and my dead friend's possessions at 100 km/h on the highway. As I got kicked my car slammed into a wreaked car on the road. When I logged back in I found myself thrown out of the windscreen, passed out next to my burning pickup that decided that now was a great time to explode. Oddly enough, it didn't kill me, but gave me about 5 minutes of silent contemplation and painfully watching my time run out, both in terms of the "coma" timer and my blood slowly ticking down. All I could do was laugh really. -

A bag of blood and a freshly killed Boar goes a long way. :) And after quite a few patients visited today, none of them have turned out to be bastards looking to take "Sharleen" from me. Now don't get mauled on the way home! -

trimethylxanthine replied to +Ben+'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It was fun to read your story Ben :) Looking back I can't believe some of the things I did before I decided to sign up as a medic. Back in April when the side chat was still on in every server I found myself running from Pustoshka to Pusta without a map and no compass looking to help some poor guy stuck in a barn. My first patient and the first one I lost. Bastards got to him before me... I can still hear the gunshot from the barn. -

To all of you who wish to help out: Right, in order to make it all come to fruition eventually Fraggle and me will need to put some trust into other people and expand. But for now we'll try to keep the cards close to our chest and bring the project up on its feet on our own. I like to claim that I'm a trusting person and unless you give me a bad wibe I welcome just about anyone to join us as things start to kick off. :) Personally I can "only" work out of EU based servers due to ping. I say "only" because I will most likely end up getting kicked from servers in other parts of the world fairly quickly, but that won't stop me from setting up a camp in a chosen location and disappear again. So anyone who wish to use the sites we find that turn out to be reliable on their server is more than welcome! Now, at the moment we are working back and forth on a server (to be disclosed soon-ish) setting up guinea pig camps to see how well they manage to survive. The biggest issue we have outside the very obvious ones (greed, raiding, bigfoot stealing the tent, etc.) is getting tents. I don't want to beg and I hate asking since it will take time and effort out of other people's spare time but: If anyone is willing and feel they can spare it, an extra tent would help us a long way and I would be forever grateful! -

This project is as you and a few others have pointed out going to be a pain in the neck to maintain. Depending on how well the camps do we will see what needs to be moved, and what needs to be forgotten altogether. As you said, nothing is worse than letting a patient down. I've had to let two down so far... I still feel bad about it. One because I didn't get there in time and the other I had to abandon due to real life obligations, I still feel bad about both. My hope is primarily to get the fresh medics off the coast and back into action quickly (my primary concern) secondly comes camps of basic equipment in regions where people who respawn to get back to electro/cherno won't be traveling much, giving the regular survivor a fighting chance. Thanks for pointing out the binoculars! I can't believe I forgot about those. For those of you wanting to become medics: Look up Dr. Wasteland M.D's thread of handy tips and fat list of patients http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3910-need-medical-assistance-we-can-help/ Feel free to look me up if you want a friend as you're saving lives (granted you're on the european servers. If I go to the US based servers it will only be to set up camp and log back out.) Want to help us out? Got input, see something I've forgotten, want to call me a jackass, got plans of becoming a supplier? Send me a PM or look me up on steam. Same name and disturbing picture. http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197970386950 Want to help out more people with supplies? Look up Survivor-Kyle and the Freeloaders. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/user/17279-survivor-kyle/ So far: thanks to everyone who have sendt me PM's, offered to help and given me suggestions. Lots of fun to see so many people interested! :) For those wondering how this is going: We hit a massive snag last night. Decided to move basecamp seeing how all the tents where empty (we guessed the server ate it all), untill someone stopped by to pick up the rest. Should you read this: thanks for making moving camp easier and thank you for the nice trade-in we got for the ATV. And before I forget, thanks for packing the camp for us! Saved us loads of time! ;) Now... time to fill the tank and start getting the campsites up! -

Thanks to everyone who've given me feedback so far. Here is a basic list of what I believe should be in the depots we establish. For now I'm thinking the medical equipment will be the most frequently needed supplies. Priority goods - Blood bags - Bandages - Morphine Optional, but nice to have - Antibiotics (if we can find some) - Epinephrine I'm calling these optional because they are either hard to come by, like the antibiotics but also not often needed except for emergencies (Epinephrine) As for the survival gear I'm thinking about keeping it to the basic stuff needed to survive. - Food - Water - Map - Compass (whenever we find the bloody things...) - Matches - Hunting knife - Handguns & a few clips for each I wish to limit the amount of weapons stashed in order to avoid the campsites becoming high value targets for would-be bandits and an easy way to start griefing. Again, any input, suggestions and even a dedicated moment of pointing and manic laughter is welcome. -

Server and the various locations will be kept between me, Fraggle and those will be working with us. How long will this take? As of now we have a decent stockpile worth of guns, survival equipment, medical suplies and a few vehicles to help us cross large distances quickly. I'm hoping to be able to have the second camp ready fairly soon, ie. tonight/tomorrow morning (We are on european servers). As of now we are working out of our base camp, that sadly had to be rebuilt since our other server was taken down last night and had some major issues with synchronizing actions and loot with the main server resulting in a large loss, but giving us a fresh start. Seeing how we are a two man team at the moment it might take some time, depending on how soon some of our other companions join us again. As for working together, the main issue is that most of the people on the list of medics are based in the US and not very many (it seems) are working out of the European servers. The backbone to this is to give headroom for up and comming medics and those well established making the starting phase as painless as possible and less downtime for those who are short on supplies. Anyone who can benefit from the arrangement and access the server is welcomed by me. -

Might not be a fair assumption, but in any event once you put up a camp you have to make a few calculated risks. - Is it well enough hidden? - Can I risk loosing whats in the tents? - Will I be away for long periods of time leaving it open to others? - Should someone come across it, will they take everything and smash the tents or take some and leave what they can't carry or don't need? Personally I see it worth the risk and the effort (even if it ends up being temporary) if it ends up helping others. Chances are I will get shot and looted quite a few times as we're attempting to start this project. -
Clearing out zombies - crash site
trimethylxanthine replied to astroz0mbie's topic in New Player Discussion
Usually you'll find that zeds respawn as you are clearing them out at crash sites. So far this has happened to me and my friends just about every time, but only one new spawn. Our usual approach is to clear a route to the helicopter, grab whatever we can and get out before new zeds land on your head (literally in some cases). As for clearing out an area for your own safety; the longer you stay in one area, more zeds will spawn nearby and from what I've read they will move in the direction of nearby survivors (surrounding buildings etc) and most importantly; they will investigate noises. So a shot might not trigger them if they are far away, but they will go to the location where you fired your gun last (easily observed when firing weapons inside buildings or sniper rifles from a long distance). -
Camo / Ghillie safe to wear?
trimethylxanthine replied to speca's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Tried wearing a guillie suit earlier this week, must have been wednesday. Didn't work. I went swimming in the ground and some of my gear got lost. So I'd wait and see if there are any new notes about it soon :) RTribesman: they look like large brown paper packages, roughly about the same size as the starting backpacks. -
My pleasure! Hopefully the next time you'll call on me it won't be for medical services :)

Aspiring European medic at your service! Right, I've been meaning to put my name up here for a long time. I've been looking for a change of pace and I don't want to succumb to banditry so I wish to do what I enjoy the most; help others. Should you find yourself on DE, SE, UK or LU servers and needing help, look me up! You'll find me under the same name on Steam or via a PM here on the forums. Steam: trimethylxanthine While I can't get anyone to vouch for me at this time, I hope you believe me when I say that you have nothing to fear from this coffee fueled Norwegian! :) -
From one thief to another: Congratulations! :)
trimethylxanthine posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As the topic states; yes I am a thief. The reason I call myself one is because I stop and check the tents I come across. However, I never raid campsites, nor empty everything there is. I peek my head in and see if there is anything there that can help me on my way, usually food or an extra clip for my weapon. And I always leave something as thanks. Yesterday and today was.. different. Together with a friend we got lucky and happened upon a bus parked in the forest, should the owner of said buss be reading this; I'm sorry for running off with your buss, but rest assured Karma came back to bite me in the ass. Deciding that a working vehicle was too rare a find to pass up we jumped in and drove off. Now having a vehicle in perfect condition and a full tank of fuel we decided to stop by the factory near Polana and see if we could get more parts to keep it in shape and maybe even repair another car should we find one. To our surprise, there in the middle of the factory grounds was a V3S in perfect condition. Loaded with everything we needed, but no owner.. we looked around, even called out to see if he was there. It felt wrong to drive off with his (we are guessing) hard earned V3S. Finding noone, I jump in and drive off. Now Karma decided to kick inn. We drove to the North West Airfield, seeing how we had a quick way in and out. Sadly, the server didn't agree. On several occasions we got rolled back, some times several kilometers. Having searched the barracks and a few hangars we notice a crashed helicopter. I jump out and start gathering whatever I could find. Now, to give you an idea of what was stashed in the car by now; we had medical supplies to last for weeks and more STANAG ammo then you could ever use (The crash site contained 27 clips). Happy with todays haul we set off to find a place to hide our bounty. My friend had a full tank on the buss and drove off ahead of me to hide it. I drove back towards Polana to refuel the truck. As I jump out, the server decides to roll me back to the airfield. *Insert vocabulary of choice* I start running like a madman. No way I was going to loose all that! Probably 15-20 minutes later I arrive at Gorka and I can barely see the truck down at the fuel station. I keep running and by the time I'm 100m away I hear the sound of an engine.. I could have sworn I turned it off before I got out. I didn't even get to finish my train of thoughts before I see the truck moving. I start shooting in a desperate hope that I manage to hit the driver. I didn't. He turns the truck around and starts chasing me. Shortly after he runs me over, killing me. I can't say I'm angry, I can hardly say I'm sad that I lost the truck.. after all I wasn't the one who repaired it. (Again, sorry to its rightfull owner.) All I can say is this: Congratulations on a new truck and more supplies then you'll ever need! -

Good deeds, and their done for free! (General Deeds Thread)
trimethylxanthine replied to Freekill0's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is one of my stories. Sadly its been a while and I'm not good with names. Having died miserably in a barn far to the north due to some unforeseen circumstances and now I found myself back in Cherno. I can honestly say I hate and fear this town. Having poked my head into a store I find a winchester and a few spare slugs. As I make my way out I see someone running between houses headed towards town hall. I decide to wait and see if I can get an idea of his intentions. Too soon I realize what he plans to do, it comes to me as he climbs to the roof. I start running, hoping he didn't see me. I hear two shots fired behind me; my leg broke and I'm now dragging my broken body to cover as I curse at the bastard on the roof. I manage to get to safety inside one of the buildings in town where I meet another player. Exchanging greetings we realized we had everything to gain by sticking together as long as we could. Fortune smiled upon us, we found enough supplies to last for a good while, but I was out of time. I had to leave and I was well aware that my chances of living was slim. My final act before my new friend ran into a very hostile world was to give him my Winchester and all of my food and water. Save one ration so I could keep on going later on. I can't remember his name, nor do I know what happened to him. I just hope it made a difference. :) -

Anyone Else Having Trouble Staying Friendly?
trimethylxanthine replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Personally I'm still managing to stay friendly. Main reason for this is that I always travel with friends so that we can watch each other. So far we have stayed alive for close to 3 weeks. There have been a few.. incidents where we have had to shoot players. Apart from one occasion it has been a result of aggression from other players. Like you I feel that staying friendly towards others is getting harder and harder. Mostly because shooting a lonely traveler in the back is rewarding right then and there (well, apart from the guilt) and attempting the friendly approach often results in backstabbing. Like most we have had to adopt a fight or flight policy. We avoid anyone we see and usually stay hidden and wait (this has resulted in several Benny Hill-ish incidents, guilty as I feel for watching someone fight for his life, it can be hillarious). Despite this we have made some new friends along the way and very rarely find shooting others necessary. And hard as it may be to see, the dark really is your best friend if you want to stay alive. :) Personally I don't miss the side chat at all, but I would like the direct chat to have a bit more range.
