    DayZ Standalone Discussion

I'm just going to put this out there, hopefully "not just you" but people think before they speak from your/community's stand-point one can only speculate to how features rocket has implemented are "useful" but bear this in mind, you need to remember that if diseases had no purpose or reason in the game then without a doubt they would not put time and effort into designing them before anyone starts to say "this wont work" and "add this it will work" you must first question yourself "how much do i even know of these mechanics" you do understand the mod's game-play yes, but we all do not understand the stand-alone's. we as a collective can only say "what would be cool in my game" because in a way we are all little-game designers trying to implement our ideas. have some faith in rockets reasons for why things are the way the are, he's making a game HE wants to play, you are buying HIS game. throw "discussions" about what does not work out, when you have actually played his game. So anyway Rocket said that we can find individual bullets, i wonder if mags will be separated from bullets, you can find ammo boxes, or just a few rounds in a draw that are dirty, finding mags will be rarer, so like you could have 40 bullets of 9mm rounds, and only 2 mags. so you need to refill the mags with bullets at times witch would take longer to reload?

For people who think this game will come out after he's trip to Everest Rocket: Here is an example of how I see our monetary stream working, we make this basic game and release it in say a month or so, the people who are going to buy that are the people who are really interested in DayZ, they are following the streams, updates and then there will be 3-4, maybe 10 times as many people who think it looks kind of cool but are undecided. To get those next sales, we need to add more stuff to the game. So that's our focus, our revenue stream is generated by making the game progressively more awesome and because of that getting more people. i understand he is only giving a rough example, but he would not say a number like that unless there is a good chance it could come out next month. i think that decision will be on the results of the alpha testing. feb release i personally think, unless there is something really wrong with alpha.

Just imagine the new mechanics with me for a few seconds guys. The new behavior of people in player to player interactions will be huge. killing on sight when you need something will not be common anymore. why?.. Because of these. Items as entities "deterioration", and Diseases Example You come across a player, he is unarmed, you have a gun, you stalk him and notice he has something you disparately need.. "shoes" in the dayz mod you would shoot this player, easily getting what you want. but in standalone something changes dramatically. Items take damage/brake/get bloodied... Now you know the best line of approach on this guy would be to "rob him" you would not kill. you would shout, threat, to give you what you want.. if he comply's you get what you needed clean and undamaged "hopefully" if he does not, and runs.. you sadly shoot/or not. you do, now you never now what could be in he's blood. what could be on those "shoes for example" and wither you should of even risked it. think of how bandit's will behave now, making road side robbery's, even to keep on there good side, you might be "bribed" adding insanely cool interactions between players.
  4. the way im thinking about the new restrictions on view I like the idea in essence, it means using 3rd person for combat is balanced with first person. but this way it's forcing more 1st person combat. at the same time not restricting 3 view to look at yourself and that witch i like It gives people the option to use the advantages of 3rd person "view advantage" but lack in "accuracy advantage" or the option to use first person view for "accuracy advantage" but lack "view advantage" This helps balance but maintain freedom.
  5. Big help for us community members Smasht Thankeeeee! Man this will be sosososo amazing i like the idea of just building onto the game over time, dayz could go for years!

DayZ SA: One Key One Character

The hole point of the game is to have 1 life, choices should not come down to "because i feel like fucking around" they should matter. I agree totally with Orlok, the fact your actions matter will make people play more seriously and not just "Troll" and waste others time because "they can change there name" it takes away the feel of notoriety and consequence, it makes bandits much more interesting because they will be forced to team together, as well as good guys. Team-play will be valued! + needed to survive, your actions will affect your experience! its perfect in my opinion
  11. Player underground bases I have no confirmation of this information, I wanted to underline and clarify how i imagine base building will work. Rocket has stated these bases will be instanced "As in separate from the game world but at the same time connected. He stated them as a personal place to store gear and keep your character "safe" so what does it mean? My understanding goes something like this theoretically As you survive in dayz you come to collect "tools" these tool slots are not connected to your bag but our fundamental things to find as they increase your survival in different areas, like matches/axe/hunter knife, are required to live purely on bush survival, i think base building will have the same type of tools required to build. Once you have built your underground base i imagine its a place to store items, But here's the catch.. these bases are connected to your living character, These bases cannot be "destroyed" while the player is alive, but once you die in game these bases become "open" to anyone who finds them. Why are they not destroy-able when the player is alive? simple; they are safe havens for logging out and in, This does not mean they are not loot-able from people with skills capable of "unlocking" personal locks, But bear in mind they should not be either easy or safe to breach. Traps/defense of such bases should be apart of there design ext ext: But they give a player more purpose to protect/trade/stay alive and collect more items because once you die, that base is no longer yours, it is open, unsecured and totally loot-able/destroy-able to any Wandering Bambi.. this adds more concern to your life in-game you are not only to lose what you have on your player but also what you have collected over time with that character. but remember they cannot be "destroyed" while a player is still alive that "owns" the base it should be safe to logout of the game, go to bed, wake up with no concern of your player or your base, BUT!! looting of your base can still happen!!, think about it, if some lucky joe with skills managed to unlock the base, avoid a trap or two, then he is rewarded by filling he's back-pack with as much stuff as he can grab, but thats not alot of things remember? it's only he's backpack he would have to risk two trips through your traps to get more things so your looking at minor theft possibly but no major sabotage. Until death... Exploration of the big wide world means death is almost always imminent. once your character has died, BAM!, your base is up for grabs of everything in it, including being trolled by some 13year old by destroying it completely!. harsh yeah?, tuff bickeys! Also to mention it cannot be retaken, its security is now breached completely and your new character will have to start the collection all over again, he can try go back and scavenge some things but overall its unsafe, This way we all have a meta, we all feel longevity is rewarded, and death.....is hell. Think of it like your back-pack, you keep it with you when you logout safe from harm, its a small place of storage "a base larger" but think of the bases not as clan sized but small. "perhaps then even further can be build into clan bases witch run under different rules.

    Base Building in Standalone

Okay i just want to make one thing clear My idea does NOT evolve clan base building, These should be somewhat different thing either on the surface or underground bigger bases would take a lot of thought in order to work correctly. i am talking about smaller personally bases that could hold a bed and space for storage this would be a smaller premises of larger structures "a more single person meta game" Don't get me wrong though idea an input of clan bases is good because i am also exctreamly excited about them
  13. ^ the more rocket talks about the possibility's the more i waste time on the forums

DayZ SA: One Key One Character

even though you're not suggesting this i think one key one name should exist. adds more "your actions matter"
  15. I'll clean this up Okay F0L, You have experienced what a-lot of us go through in the mod, it's a shame yes i understand how this game in essence is the best zombie survival ever made, but needs to be fixed i wish i could explain to you how innovative and fantastic the standalone will be: let me give you just 2 things in standalone.. No hacking like that ever. and fully enter-able buildings...that alone should bring you back buddy should ease you back to playing when it's released..hope it helps :) Also see you on Balota :)
  16. If im low geared an he is also, then i make friendly contact if Geared i avoid low gears completely as they are dangerously unpredictable if geared an they are also, i'll avoid or possibly spy on and group with if friendly if a bandit, KOS if im spotted jump into a backflip do a barrel roll and flee
  17. Making assumptions on SA population is nothing but speculation we can't relate the mod experience as evidence to claim 150 wont work for SA we do not fully understand the changes that have been made the map size, the lack of loot from more demand, more separated loot opportunity way more loot variety. will make the socio-economics change dramatically, you cannot assume people will even remotely behave the same when the change in incentives changes so hugely. the game may feel the same, but people will react differently. population will be a fascinating contributor to the way rocket envisions this game works so the number is fascinating indeed.

    Base Building in Standalone

though the way i see it, death needs an increased punishment the longer you stay alive this would increase the punishment thresh hold if you had more character attachment to a base you built logging off for a day to come back to not have most your stuff is a punishment on unfair terms, but with "stealing" from bases still possible it means if you leave your base long enough like "offline more then a week" you will come back to find all your things gone, but your base still there. "Remember these are underground" there not sitting around on the world in the way" *edit* unfair because of punishment for not playing it would not be hard to distroy most bases as there owner would most likely be dead... if not, find him and kill him if you want it destroyed.

  25. New answer given : Do NVGS or Rangefinders need batteries? Do the Red Dot sights ever run out of power? [–]rocket2gunsRocket 4 points 57 minutes ago It's done. That's what "weapons as entities" system has provided us. We can now require any object to use batteries or have components added to it. "off ta bed nows hope theres some more goodies when i am back"
