Hey guys, ever since installing my new card I've been having some issues with textures. Small or thin textures seem to flicker, it really bugs my eyes and I find it extremely distracting. CPU: i5-3570k GPU: Sapphire 7870 OC Edition Mobo: Asrock Extreme 4 RAM: Patriot Viper III 8GB @ 2133mhz PSU: Cooler Master 650W 80+ Certified I've also tried this card on a similar system with the same results: CPU: Phenom 965 BE\ GPU: Same Mobo MSI 770-C45 RAM: 4GB Patriot Viper II @ 1600mhz PSU: Same I've tried many different configs both in game and in CCC, I've tried drivers 12.8 through 12.11. I did cheap out on my PSU - http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=33_441&item_id=028286 Here's a video so you can see what I'm talking about: - notice the red & green house and surrounding area. (specific ingame settings are listed in description)1) Is this normal? 2) Could it be faulty card/psu? 3) Any idea how to fix this? Advice is appreciated -

Can someone plz tell me if this texture flickering is normal or not? Before I RMA my card I want to be sure. Thanks =D

I've used your exact settings - and I'm still having the same issue, only difference is that the trees flicker less and seem to have semi-transparent borders (with white pixel flickering). So you don't notice these issues at all? After watching some youtube videos of ppl with 7870s/7850s playing Arma 2 or Dayz I've seen this issue. What drivers are you currently using?

Hey guys, so I've been putting together a new system (ram, case, psu, GPU) and I just received my i5 3570k + Asrock extreme4 mobo. What I'm wondering is if I should just keep my Phenom II x4 965 BE @ 3.8 Ghz and refund my i5 3570k + mobo ($375 value). I'm wondering what kind of performance increase I'd be getting with the new i5, if it's not significant this money could be better spent in the future on intel's 4th gen CPU lineup (or buy the 3570k at a much better price) . Has anyone upgraded from the 965 BE to an i5 3570k (or similar) and can share their experiences? I've searched for benchmarks but I've yet to find a comparison specific to Arma 2 with the two CPUs. My current specs are: CPU: Phenom II 965 BE @ 3.8 Ghz GPU: HD 7870 @ 1050/5000 Mhz RAM: 8GB DDR3 @ 1600 Mhz PSU: CM 650 W 80+ cert. Mobo: MSI 770 c45 Proposed Specs: CPU: i5 3570k Mobo: Asrock Extreme 4 Z77 RAM: Same PSU: Same GPU: Same Think I'll see a big performance increase? Thanks again for your help guys =D

A fellow Canadian =D, can you give me a little more insight on what the performance gains are? If you've been monitoring your FPS can you give me an estimate on how much your FPS has improved (and if there's been any improvements with FPS inside big cities?). Thanks =D

Proof that Standalone will be delayed till 2013?

I really don't understand why everyone is so damn impatient - WE HAVE DAYZ MOD!! - We even have tonne of maps and server variants - just have fun with DayZ MOD now and enjoy your Christmas, when the SA comes out, you'll know it. -
Need to know if my HDD is bottlenecking my system

So are you reporting actual FPS increases in game with the SSD? -
Hey guys, So after reading a few forum threads and trying to optimize my settings I feel like I have reached my performance cap (40-60 FPS with quite lowish settings) but I'm really not impressed with how the game is visually. After watching DayZ videos it just seems to have so much more immersion with high quality graphics - when I play, all the trees are blotchy with no depth, grass just looks terrible and lines on objects seem to be inconsistent and flicker almost. Specs: Phenom X4 965 BE (3.4Ghz) Sapphire Ati HD 5750 1GB VRAM 4GB Ram @1333 I'd really like this game to run nicely with my GPU - but I'm starting to think this is no longer a reality (please tell me if I'm wrong) If my conclusion is correct - I'll be looking to upgrade my computer over the holidays, and had a few questions about that; a) Which card would you recommend if the only game being played was DayZ (I was thinking of a 550Ti or 560Ti as their in my price range) B) Does my Ram/CPU need upgrading as well c) Any major performance increases from having your DayZ files on a SSD? Thanks a bunch!

Yup, already did this actually. Gave me about a 5 FPS improvement - I recommend doing this for anyone looking to gain a few FPS.

Need to know if my HDD is bottlenecking my system
nort0n replied to oldpainless's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Hmm so CPU was the issue, this is useful information for me as I'm trying to figure out my bottleneck as well (I'm guess its a little bit of both, but on low settings video card should become less relevant). Looking to get the same CPU, although I havn't seen any naturally clocked to 3.8. Only 3.4 Ghz (unless your referring to the 3.8Ghz turbo Boost). Please clarify - thanks =D -
Woodland can you tell us exactly what settings your using and where you are getting 30 FPS?? If possible could you tell us what your performance is with low/medium graphics settings and only using 1 monitor?? Testing using a Arma 2 benchmark (found under scenarios/singe-player) is probably the most accurate way of sharing/comparing results. My guess is you GPU can handle everything fine but your CPU is bottlenecking your system, keeping you at 30 FPS - which would mean you'd get very similar results with low/med settings and on 1 monitor.

This is pleasantly refreshing - I'm coming from WarZ where if you say ANYTHING negative on their forums you get 1000 fanboys telling you to shut up + reputation down-votes and a 50% chance your thread will be closed by moderators (This happened to me for simply pointing out their ad "buy game play game October" was 1) bad marketing and 2) over a month out of date) Here moderators blatantly agree there's an issue with forums and tell you that the problem has not gone unnoticed - then they chirp the neigh sayers. Beans for you moderator team!

650 Ti will be here after Christmas, followed by a SSD and an i5 3570k + mobo. I'm going to test Arma 2 out extensively, one added module at a time starting with GFX card. Should be interesting and may give other's insight if their planning on upgrading their system.

Could be the HD, although for some reason I think it may be an actual CPU bottleneck. I did some more testing and found that in single player - my GPU usage is 100%, in MP my GPU usage is around 50-60%. I then tried OCing my GPU - no change in FPS for either SP or MP. I then reset GPU to default clock and overclocked my CPU from 3.4 Ghz to 3.8 Ghz and noticed 0 improvement in SP but a whopping 30% increase in FPS during MP (and benchmark #2). I'd be curious to see what performance differences others have gotten after upgrading their systems. I'm starting to debate whether upgrading my CPU is more important (seems people with intel CPUs, specifically i5-2500k are getting much better performance - regardless of GPU). Wish I could just borrow a CPU for a day lol. /edit - new evidence suggests that it may in fact be my CPU creating these FPS issues I'm experiencing http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,687620/ArmA-2-tested-Benchmarks-with-18-CPUs/Reviews/ It's a little outdated, so Arma 2 may have patched this or fixed it somehow but it seems that Phenom IIs specifically are experiencing performance issues.

Hmm.... Doesn't his mobo just need a PCI-E slot? I'm currently in the same boat with a very similar CPU 965 BE (3.4Ghz) and shopping for a new graphics card myself - although I have a slightly outdated mobo MSI-770 C45. Either going with 660 or 7870. Please explain this motherboard comment as I hope I don't need to upgrade my mobo as well.
-
Sweet, I really wasn't looking to upgrade my CPU as well =D. Might even stick with AMD and just roll a 7770 because I'm a cheap ass =D. @NonovUrbizniz - Can you get yourself to a stable 60 FPS in cherno on 1 monitor and lower graphics (1920x1080 res) ? If so I'm sold on the 7770 - Can pick one up for around $110.
-
I'm hoping the 660 will do it. Really don't understand how such an old game has these performance issues - I feel like a 5750 should be able to get 60 fps on very low setting. Is my CPU up to par as well or should I consider going to Intel? (especially if I buy GTX 660 - I'm hoping having an AMD CPU with a Nvdea GPU won't create any issues down the road)

Also: here's a few screenshots of what the game looks like for me: http://i.imgur.com/QDj9f.jpg http://i.imgur.com/2tVvQ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TY158.jpg Also playing Arma2OA - wasteland map I get 20-30 FPS - 30 being max and sometimes dips below 20. Any idea why this might be?

Turned my settings down a little more (specifically resolution and 3d resolution) Settings: In Game: Texture Detail: Normal Video Memory: Default Antistropic Filtering: Disabled AA: Disabled ATOc: Disabled Resolution 1650x1080 3d Resolution: 1344x840 (changing this seems to greatly impact my FPS - but also has a huge impact on how object looks) Terrain Detail: Low Object Detail: Low Shadows: Disabled HDR: Normal (can't disable) PPAA: Disabled Post Processing: Disabled Config Files Changes: shadingQuality=0; shadowQuality=0; sceneComplexity=150000; 3D_Performance=100000; GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1; AToC=0; PPAA=0; PPAA_Level=0; Start-up Parameters: -nosplash -nopause -world=chernarus -skipintro -maxMem=2047 -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 Benchmark results: (This was done is a very small town surrounded by fields and light forest) *excuse low benchmarks time frames - I'll do some longer ones when I have more time. HD5750 Default @ 700Mhz Low: 34 High: 56 Avg: 47 HD5750 Overclocked @ 870Mhz (max via MSI afterburner) Low:34 High: 71 Avg: 52.385 It mate be noteworthy - that my GPU reaches about 80% usage when over-clocked, 100% when not over-clocked. Also my CPU NEVER goes above 50% usage (single core can hit about 60-65% max). I was told this game was very CPU intensive - I feel that my CPU is just not being utilized to it's fullest capacity. Please inform me if I've done anything that would hinder my performance or if there is anything else I can do to increase it. Also - I'd like to get my CPU to be utilized more if possible. Have you noticed the SSD actually increase your FPS? (if not what performance increases are you noticing except for faster loading screens?) I've heard that low HDD speeds can bottleneck your GPU. Thanks for the replies.

I'm current playing on 1920x1080. Hadn't chosen a version for the 550Ti or 560Ti yet. My budget is under $200. Are there specific attributes that'll make certain cards perform better specifically in DayZ? (ex: more than 1GB Vram, high clock, nvidea vs ati etc.)

Hey guys - my first post on the forums. Long story short - I'm new(ish) to DayZ. Tried it a while ago but the hacking/server hopping was out of control - so I left. Recently I've been playing WarZ for a few weeks and it just doesn't have the same feeling as DayZ - also the hacking in WarZ is far worse than DayZ public hive servers. I never really looked into private hives before - I didn't even know about them. So now I'm here, looking for a quality private hive(s) to play on where hacking is minimal, admins are active and there's a nice active player base. Public TS and forums would be awesome too. I just want to sink my teeth into some quality zombie survival gameplay and not worry about the hackers, or at least know that hackers will be dealt with. I know these forums are full of people advertising their private hives, but I really don't know where to begin - I'm really out of the loop. A kind push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated =D. My Details: Canadian 23 y/o grad student 420 friendly 1/2 bandit -Norton
