But the OP's post had exactly the same choice, if there is a difference it's that the OP's suggestion would cater for players like Kaboki by providing the option for it to be turned off globally so that no-one can chat. Walkie talkies are a worse option for him because the lack of options mean no servers cater for what he wants. I'm happy to roll with the WT's, like I say I was more trying to make a point about choice.
-
But he gives enough of a fuck to provide options.
-
Probably but the difference seems minimal to me. My bugbear is with the 'everyone should play it my way' thing that creeps into these kind of discussions.
-
There are only 4 servers that aren't half empty, I'm sure I could find you a ton in SA.
-
Tbf I only found out about the walkie talkies in this thread, not tried them yet but for all the difference it makes it seems like a minute change.
-
Taken from DayZ commander right now. I'm seeing a fairly equal split between crazy and vanilla.
-
So players should be forced to play a certain way and by happy coincidence that just happens to be the way you prefer to play.
-
I don't see how walkie talkies prevents you from broadcasting base locations any more than sidechat does. Okay so you need to get an item first, so you delay getting sidechat for 10-30 mins per life. I think you're just arguing semantics at this point, for all I hear about how crazy servers took over I never found any trouble finding good vanilla or close to vanilla servers, I ran one myself. If you take away the crazy players then you still are left with your 5/75 servers. There are 2 million DayZ owners and countless servers, there is enough room for everyones style of play.
-
I still don't see the difference if you're happy with the walkie talkie, unless you run with it on all the time you're playing at a disadvantage to anyone using them. Although I think the case of side chat handing people an advantage is being massively overstated. I don't agree with your idea that choice is exclusionary, while towards the end of the mod (not the end but you know what i mean) there were more crazy servers but there were still a huge number of great, non-crazy servers. Some would be more popular that others but there was enough space so that everyone could find a server that suited them.
-
The mod offered a wide range of styles due to it's flexibility, from the hardcore servers to RPG servers to vanilla servers to the daft spawn with high end loot and shoot everyone servers. Maybe I'm picking you up wrong. On the walkie-talkie front, if the detrimental facet is forcing people to see it then having client side options provides the same ability to switch it off. The only difference is having a loot item. Tbh I've not tried using th walkie talkies so I can't comment on it but I'm going to give it a try and see. Anyhoo, I think I've said all I've got to say. Peace out.

If it's real that player needs to find himself a doctor

We could go round in circles with this all day, I guess my point is that there seems to be a lot of lines drawn in the sand over things, side chat v none, 3rd person v 1st person, public hives v private hives. Everyone has opinions but everyone seems to be insisting that their and only their vision is the one true way. I just think the game is improved for everyone by making it as flexible and inclusive as possible, i think that was a great strength of the mod and the mod wouldn't have existed at all if it wasn't for how open Arma itself was. Today it's side chat and it's fallen in your favour, tomorrow it might be some part of the game that you enjoy that gets unceremoniously cut.

Should every loot location have a tiny chance of spawning any type of loot
theirongiant posted a topic in General Discussion
What I mean is that there is a lot of lot that you know for a fact won't spawn in certain places meaning that once you've got a basic loadout there are a ton of places that you have no reason to search. Would making every loot location have, in addition to it's usual loot table, a vanishingly small change of spawning a random item from the global loot list encourage people to search more? -

Not much more to add to that. I agree completely. The chances of finding high end loot in low end places should be vanishingly small but that would be enough to psychologically make every house and hut a lottery scratchcard, chances are you'll get a can of spaghetti hoops but maybe this time you'll scoop a huge prize. As a rewarding gameplay mechanic it's all win. imo of course. -
OP suggestion was for both admin and client options, so even if you're on a server with it globally switched on, you can personally switch it off. Even if that's not good enough for you, by a straw poll of this thread enough people agree with you that you'd expect those numbers to be mirrored by server owners so I think you're being overly pessimistic. Also I don't think there was an option to switch it of on the mod, I may be wrong though. Can't we all just get along :)
-
*sigh* okay - attempt no. 6: some people like it, some people don't. I fully and completely understand this to be the case. What the OP is suggesting, what I'm agreeing with and what this thread is about is about having the flexibility for both groups to have what they want. I don't need to hear your reasons for not liking it, you don't need to hear mine, it's about finding a middle ground that suits all parties. Isn't that the best way to deal with all these kinds of issues? By being adult about it, accepting that different people have different ideas and trying to find the most inclusive solution?
-
I don't want to force anything, I want people to be given the choice. Not that this isn't, like, the 5th time I've specifically said it.

Loot Respawning is in yeah? What about Economy etc?
theirongiant replied to crimsonbzd's topic in General Discussion
That'll just lead to less servers, no-one will play on quiet servers, quiet servers will never get the opportunity to grow into popular servers. It'll just end up with a narrower range of options for everyone. Would be a poor decision to punish honest server owners while dishonest ones are blatantly advertising what they are doing and BI do hee-haw about it. -
is organise 39 people on the one server, get them all in one spot, wait for the 40th player to join and then go hunt them en masse. How funny would it be to be quietly looting when all of a sudden 39 players appear over the hill charging towards you screaming like banshees. If I ever get round to pulling it off that shit is getting youtubed :D
-
Cos it was a breath of fresh air from all the copy pasta AAA titles getting shat out.
-
Yeah, maybe in the future we'll have the technology to record the player's face from their webcam and display it in-game on their character in real-time. Would be hilarious.
-
It could be done if people are disciplined, set up a 2 tier organisational structure on TS. Split the maps into quarters, each quarter has a team leader who assigns lookout positions to all the teams under him. When the One is spotted, team informs team leader, team leader lets other team leaders know, other team leaders gather their teams and head over to the live quarter and everyone meets up while the original teams track the One. Might end up like trying to herd cats but with good players it could be awesome.
-
I'd originally just meant to throw this out there as a funny idea but I'll monitor the thread and if we can get the requisite 39 people showing an interest I'll message everyone and see if we can't get it set up some weekend.
-
The more the merrier, might take a bit of time to gather the requisite number if we can get enough interested parties I'm all for it.
-
You could get lookouts posted at all the likely spots to alert everyone when the One is spotted and then everyone would have to sneak up on them. Seeing 39 people converge on you from different directions would be quite spooky as well.
