Would you make the bases lootable, how do you see that working? My problem with lootable bases is that it seems unfair to the base owner if they happen to be offline at the time, seems to easy to gank peoples bases during quiet hours. Don't know if you could do something like only make bases lootable while the owners are online although that would seem to invite people logging out at the first sign of danger. Combat logging is bad enough for characters without giving people the excuse to do it with bases.

Q3 Starts on July, Q2 development balance?
theirongiant replied to cuartas's topic in General Discussion
Don't think there is anything wrong with acknowledging that the roadmap is behind schedule, maybe the new developers will make up the ground, maybe the beta will take to next summer, it's hardly whining just pointing out the current status of the game. -
Hive servers should operate under more strict parameters.
theirongiant replied to MLG420blazeit's topic in General Discussion
My problem with night time is that it's unrealistically dark, go out into the countryside during the night and once your eyes have adjusted you can see quite clearly. What does happen is that lower ranges of darkness get crushed together so that areas in shadow become uniformly dark. Unless you're in a room with zero light or in very deep forest you never experience 'dayz night'. Ironically boosting up the gamma is a more realistic representation of what you see at night. Time acceleration will be a godsend, allowing you to set the length of night so that it's something you could go through in a session rather than as 12h thing. Imo of course. -
Why are there basically no 3pp:off servers - grow a pair.

Obvious sockpuppet account is obvious -
It'd be cool if you could catch rabbits and use them as zombie distractions when needed.

Aye, not so much flogging a dead horse as beating a faint red stain into the core of the earth through sheer kinetic energy. -

I'll not take it personally, I was making the point that someone could always claim to play more hardcore than you do by making the game harder for themselves, doesn't make them right or you wrong. There's a reason the majority of people like 3PP, it's cause 1PP is just plain unpleasant for a lot of people, it's got hee-haw to do with easy mode but 1PP-ers always throw that out there as the strawman to whale on. Hell, the zero punctuation review referred to it as running about with a washing machine strapped to your head, a description that Dean Hall has referenced a few times himself. Plenty of people play 1PP games, it's not like Battlefield, Cod, TF2 or Counterstrike aren't popular, don't think anyone would play them in 3PP even if given the option. Why not just let people play the game the way they want to rather than each side trying to force their way. -

But it makes the game easier and gives you an advantage over players who don't use it, sounds like easymode to me. Maybe you should try playing console games, they cater more to your sort of casual player. -

How many of the hardcore 1PP players play with headbob turned on, given that headbob is both more realistic and more hardcore? -
Not only is 0.45 swinging over onto stable but it means that we're onto the next block of new features starting to creep towards experimental. It's been a long old wait for this one but given that they had a new team to get up to speed it's understandable. Anyone want to speculate on what is next on the road map to get worked on? What is there from 2nd quarter milestones that hasn't made the cut this time round?

Can server admins remove gear off of you?
theirongiant replied to Coldf3er's topic in General Discussion
Admins can do hee-haw other than kick players, talk in global and restart the server. -
Yeah, all our servers are based in London. We get players from all over and we're open to all. I've yet to play on experimental, personally prefer it that way, think it keeps the stable updates fresh and new

There was a nice script that came out (I added it to my mod server) that had an AI chopper that would fly in from sea and at a random point would explode mid-air and then crash into the ground and become a normal dayz loot heli-crash. Was really good fun, be nice if they implemented something like that further down the line.
-
Nice, you'd hope with the extra staff that things will start to pick up pace, hopefully this is a sign of things to come. I think tomorrow is going to be a fun day
-
Yeah, I'm a developer myself (though nothing as interesting as games) and I've done the whole take two steps back, take twenty forward thing plenty of times. You get it working first then you go back and get it working properly applies to the wee things as well as the big picture. Be delighted to have you join up, the more the merrier.
-
Man, it'll be nice to see heli-crashes back in as well
-
Yeah it's a cracking film. Never played on exp. servers, is the hunting stuff in? Apparently Hicks tweeted (and it's been confirmed in-game) that that stuff back is back in on experimental, probably taken out for a couple of hours so they could concentrate on getting clean data back on the rubberbanding fix.

Removing spawns is making this game bad

I won't lie it puzzles the hell out me why those aren't hotspots. -

I don't server hop. The 20 minute run across the map, longer if you're gearing up from nothing, is the game. Why jump about servers to gear up, defeats the point, you may as well have a button that flashes up 'YOU WON THE GAME' every time you press it, utterly pointless. -

Where do we go if GSPs are not dealing with abuse?
theirongiant replied to daringd's topic in General Discussion
tbh I have some sympathy with BI, I suppose even if they kicked the obvious culprits, they'd just avoid making it obvious it wouldn't actually change what's going on. Hopefully the new loot spawning thing will put an end to that at least although I still have massive reservations over the public hive being susceptible to this sort of issue. -

I think that's throwing the baby out with the bath water a little. There were plenty of good mod servers run by good admins, it's just a fact of life that there will be bad ones. To police to totally would cost too much money, you'd need a massive support task to investigate complaints, although you'd think the one's who advertise themselves as loot servers would be the low hanging fruit that wouldn't take too much effort. I've thought about it and I can't see how a public hive will work considering the amount of exploiters out there. In all honesty it didn't work for the mod and it was (imo) private hives that saved the game from disappearing under a blizzard of thunderdomes and hacked in ammo crates back in the day. -

theirongiant replied to daringd's topic in General Discussion
There is no financial incentive for BI or GSP's to ban servers. They're not going to spend money in paying people to investigate servers just so they can ban them and lose more money. Public hive is nice idea but I just can't see how it'll work, if items are made rare globally people are going to go on public servers raid for good gear, log out, go to their personal servers, stash the good gear and then rinse and repeat. It's sad but that's the way it is, some people will shoot every angle for an advantage, spoiling it for everyone else. I'd love to be proved wrong but I'd imagine that, like the mod, private hives will be the only defence against a lot of this stuff. -
I reckon I'm more familiar with Chernarus than any real life 200sqkm chuck of land.

Ach, we could kick this football around for days. At least we managed to have, for the most part, a decent discussion about it. I'm sure we all just want the best for the game. I'm going to bow out at this point, I've said my piece and my kip is calling. Night all.
