Heli crash sites fixed after maintenance?
theirongiant replied to Knight05 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/29wn6j/are_heli_crashsites_spawning/ no idea if it's been fixed -
1. Wait for bandits to lave and go raid the corpses hoping to find some food items 2. Would both sneak away and perhaps watch from a distance to see who comes out on top but would generally just split 3. I'm cornered and this might be the only chance I've got of having the upper hand, bang bang 4. bang bang

It's looking likely that tents might arrive in 0.48, looking forward to it and I'm interested to see how they're implemented. I really hope that they are a bit harder to find, not just to protect my stuff but to make hunting them a bit more of a challenge as well. For the most part, they were really easy to see and for such a big map there were so few decent areas to hide them in, anyone that played the mod could probably list the places where the trees grew thickly and were off the beaten track. I played DayZero a lot towards the end, so I don't know if it happened in the mod as well but there was a point when you could put tents inside of world objects, it still needed a bit poking out so you could access it (also the guy line tended to stick out but it was quite difficult to see) but it made hunting out tents so much more fun and massively increased the places where you could find them. I found some quite ingeniously hidden tents but the cool thing was that when you did find one that was well hidden then it tended to have good loot in it. The player that came up with a great spot was rewarded in having a long lasting tent and the player who put a lot of effort into checking spots was rewarded with a good pay off. I thought it worked out really, really well, I know a lot of people complained about it and attempts were made to prevent it happening but I genuinely thought it improved the game a lot. What's everyone's thoughts on the hide-ability of tents, would you want tents that are easy or hard to find?
-
That's kind of my issue, it's 225sqkm but there are only several good places. There's lots of things you can do in real life to hide a tent that aren't doable in DayZ, With the way the ground renders at distance anything that is out of place sticks out like a sore thumb. In the mod you could spot tents from hundreds of metres away (didn't help that they glowed in the dark either). You needed at least two and and ideally three trees close together but because of that if you saw an area with thick tree coverage you'd check it for tents. I lost count of the number of times I'd be hunting for a place to put up a tent, find a good spot and discover that there were tents already there. I just think it makes for better gameplay if you actually have to hunt for them and use a bit of imagination rather than stumble across them cos there are limited good spots. Kudos to the guy that found the dam bug, for a wee while it was a great place to find tents and occasionally cars :)

I wouldn't take it as gospel, i'm guessing a little bit. They put the info for tents into 0.46, there's no tents in 0.47 on experimental so I'm just guesstimateing that we might see them in 0.48. I could very well be wrong.
-
Yeah, they had lockboxes in epoch as well that were a challenge to find. Seeing as we have shovels it'd be nice to have the option to create buried caches. It'd have no impact on performance as well cos you'd only have to do one check to see if something was at the area when a player selected to dig. It'd also give players a reason to track each other rather than just shooting. You're less likely to KOS if there is a chance that you could follow a player to their cache and dig it up later.

When tents come in that's where everyone is going to hide theirs

I'll take a stab at this one. Because I was tired of abusive admins and 1000+ vehicle servers, also because I'm old enough that I don't get my kicks from winning, I get them from having fun and ultimately because I've got the disposable income to afford to do it. Not every admin is a raging asshole, some of us want to provide a good experience for ourselves and others. I've never had the most popular servers or the biggest communities but no-one every got fucked over on any of my servers and everyone that made their home on them had a good time and that is rewarding in and of itself.

I'd like to think that at some point DayZ SA will allow it's assets to be used by the wider arma community. I can understand the game being closed while in development but I'd be bitterly disappointed if a game that grew out of one of the most moddable games on the market didn't pay it forward down the line.

Yeah, when I lived out in the sticks I was accustomed to it but when you move to the city you're like, dude where's all the stars. It's like the difference between 1080p and 360p

That's a light pollution map of the UK, I lived somewhere in that white circle. I've no reason to lie and I walked that road plenty of times, on the brightest night you'd cast a distinct clear shadow and at no time in the open was it ever pitch black, it would be if you went in woods but in the open there was never a point when I was unable to see. I know this because I managed to make it home every time and never owned a torch or nvg's. I'm pretty sure back in the days before streetlights people managed to venture out of their homes at night without stumbling about utterly blind.
-
How did you get home?
-
Know it well, stayed for close on 10 years up in Knightswood. One of the few things I miss about living in the boonies is when you're out at night you see way, way more stars than you do when you're anywhere near streetlights. Has to be seen to be believed. Had a quick look through google and this is as close as I can see to what a clear night looks like
-
Born and bred in Glasgow but transplanted to deepest darkest Lanarkshire when I was wee but returned back to my home city when I got older. I walked that road for 10 years I think I'd know what I could and couldn't see. That black and white picture posted earlier in the thread was pretty much what it was like. The only time it's pitch black is in woods on an overcast night and even then it's not as completely black as dayz nights.
-
I'd disagree, I grew up in the middle of nowhere and had an hour long walk home in the country with no streetlights to get back home and you could see fine once your eyes adjusted. Overcast nights were a bit darker but clear nights were bright as hell.

How will you play, Hardcore or Standard
theirongiant replied to WashedUpPoet's topic in General Discussion
That's the point, i'm not trying to change anyone's view, I'm just pointing out that people want to play the game their own way for their own reasons, why not just let people get on with it. These threads always pop up and it's always 1pp players complaining about 3pp players. Who cares, let people play the way they want to, why does the way some other guy play bother some people. It's utterly mental. -

In a very specific constructed scenario that we hear endlessly about it confers an advantage but in regular day-to-day play it honestly hardly makes that much of a difference. Everyone is still on a level playing field overall, good players learn to adapt to their situations, you just learn to accept that you could be watched at any time, I fail to see how this is different in 1pp. Sure 1pp is a little more 'immersive' and a little more 'hardcore' and if that's your thing - have at it, i genuinely hope you have as much fun playing your way as I do playing mine. More than anything the thing putting me off playing hardcore is the attitude of some of it's proponents. I play games for fun, DayZ specifically for the interactions between players and the openness of the game, i don't really care about being hardcore or eeking out miniscule advantages in combat or dying or having a great k/d ratio or being leet. -

Maybe in a game where zombies run/attack through walls some people like having a sense of what's happening in their characters proximity.
