  1. Maybe I've just been lucky but I don't seem to be having a big problem with it, you need to be more accurate but I'm not finding it to be the issue other people seem to having with it.
  2. Have to confess I've not faced any of these problems, the zombies seem to be marginally harder to hit but that's about all, can still drop them in 1 or 2 hits.

    This is just unplayable now

Happened to me today and I only play on one server, imo it's a stupid mechanic, if you're wanting to provide some disincentive to combat logging then leave a players gear in game and lootable/hideable for two minutes after they log out. Killing players who aren't in the game is weak sauce, as is putting players in game before they are properly connected.

Never mind all that, what's the new boomsticks like

There are hundreds of great Scottish words that aren't well known outside of Scotland. Glaikit is probably one of my favourites. Funnily enough I had a complaint about one of the error messages in the backup software I'd written from an English customer, the error message was: "The time period you have selected is outwith the backup window". This guy was giving me all sorts of sticks for my terrible use of grammar for the word "outwith", had a moment of self doubt and checked the Oxford English dictionary and it was in there but had it marked as Scottish dialect so I wrote back to him and said "Just because a word happens to be outwith your vocabulary doesn't make it bad grammar" :D

To be fair, when I was asking about the boomsticks I was specifically meaning the shotguns :P

Anyone used the shotguns then, I can't be the only fan that's been looking forward to them getting buffed?

so when is the move to the new engine?

Which itself was based off the world famous "hello world" engine.

    STABLE UPDATE TODAY!

So which is it - tents won't store items or items outside of tents won't be persisted? Anything official or just guesswork as what I've seen so far is fairly inconclusive until it's further clarified.

Why no 24h-cycle servers with nighttime ?

Once the loot spawning is fixed people will extend the restarts, I think the improvements to night time might see more people playing it although personally I think they've overshot the mark a little with how light it is but it's not far off being perfect imo.

How long do you reckon SA will be like the mod?

I still reckon it'll be summer next year at least to get all the basic mechanics of the game in place. We're into Q3 and most of the Q2 stuff hasn't been finished, that's not a complaint but given what's still to be done we need to be revising expectations for when it'll hit beta stage. Could be, and would love to be, wrong though.
  12. I'm happy with all the spawns being on the East coast, there is a line of military spawns that runs down the west coast, if there is a spawn point that is nearer to one of those then people will just cycle till they get it. Personally I would have preferred south coast spawns with military bases along the north of the map.

    Trading Post

Want: Red Jacket Will Trade for: Engraved 911 with clip (possibly 2) and ammo.
  14. Maybe you haven't but it's a constant feature of these conversations. I agree that there is an advantage I just think it's massively overstated it's balanced by the number of times you're on the flipside of the equation and that skill absolutely dwarfs it in determining the outcome of any given battle. You can put the contrary in all caps as much as you want or add the word fact but that doesn't make it so. One thing I won't argue is that 1PP is more atmospheric, I'd rather play that way but for reasons I can't entirely put my finger on (and nothing to do with peeking) I find it unpleasant to play in 1PP. You can thumb your nose at my reasons or tell me I'm flat out wrong in my opinions but that's the way I (and the vast majority of players) find it. If the reasons for that can be identified and fixed then maybe more people would play hardcore.

I really dont get the point of bambi killing.

It's never happened to me yet but then if a bambi starts acting out I tend to put them down.
  16. I guess I'm still debating the point because I disagree on how much peeking affects the game and that any slim advantage it confers is also a disadvantage an equal number of times over any extended amount of hours. The OP was about finding reasons why the vast majority of DayZ SA and DayZ mod players aren't playing hardcore, rather than actually discuss those reasons out comes the "peeking babycore" stuff and the discussion is just shut down. You're not going to encourage people to play 1pp is you ask them for their reasons for not liking it and then just scream "Liar!, it's because you love peeking" in their face every time, it's fucking pointless.
  17. I'd say these have far more impact on the outcome than peeking, as it should. You put an experienced player in 1pp against a noob in 3pp and the experienced player is going to win 9 out of 10 times. I also don't care want mode people play in, I think the ability of the game to be tailored to suit the experience people want to be a strength and in keeping with the spirit of it's Arma roots. I'm just tired of the vast majority of the player base being denigrated as being little more than cheats when the reality is that it has very little impact on the game, the advantage of peeking is entirely overplayed in these arguments, being put forward as the sole reason most people play in 3pp. If/When they do something to prevent peeking the majority of players are still going to play 3pp because peeking isn't the reason that they play that way. By constantly railroading the argument down this path rather than asking questions about what the true problems are with 1pp it's doing nothing to improve the situation. Anyway, I've said my bit, peace out.
  18. If it was such an advantage then the person in cover would win every firefight but they don't, not even close. The standard things like superior tactics, accuracy, numbers, weapons, positioning, experience absolutely crush peeking when it comes to determining who wins. It's effect on the outcome is entirely overplayed in these arguments, way beyond it's actual effect on gameplay.
  19. I'll give you beans, that's a close as I can do. Sure you can construct specific scenarios where it's an advantage to one player but over the course of weeks and months, sometimes you're the windscreen, sometimes you're the wasp. I'm just pointing out that if you're saying it's easymode for one side in a given situation then logically it's harder than hardcore when you're on the flipside of that same scenario.

Why Dayz is the most tense game there is

For all the bitching and clunkiness I've still never played a game where even after playing it solid for 2 years my hand still shakes with adrenaline after a tense firefight.

I really dont get the point of bambi killing.

I don't do it as a rule but it's worth pointing out that a harmless bambi is only a harmless bambi until they find a weapon.
  22. Peeking only gives you an advantage if you have 3rd person while everyone else on the server is using 1st person. When everyone has the same ability it ceases to be an advantage. You can be peeked at just as much as you can peek at someone else. Stop stating it like it's a one way street.

    game crashing every third game

Few of us playing last night, in a 3 hour period there must have been about 25 crashes between the 5 of us. Never had it that unstable before.
  24. Compare it to 1st person perspective in other games and it just isn't as pleasant an experience, plus the gankiness of the controls means that it's a lot easier to judge what is going on about you in 3rd person.
