I think this is something that would be a great help to a huge number of hosts. Given the amount of hackers, I find it quite surprising that there isn't a straightforward community reference of what to look out for in the logs.

Haven't noticed a scale on the map but i'd guess big squares = 1km, small squares = 100m. Is that correct?

I notice there are a few of these but what do people recommend and why. Do any of them collate log info into a per player list of events?

I'm sure there is probably a proper name for what i'm thinking of but a neat wee thing to have would be a device you can plant in the ground that has a 5m-10m tripwire attached which when triggered fired a flare into the air. While not realistic it would probably be better if zombies didn't trigger them as they'd rendered them pretty useless but it could add a bit of extra drama to the mix.

I just think they'd lose effectiveness and probably wouldn't be used much if the zombies could trip them. It'd go from being a useful device for tell you that there was a clumsy player nearby to being a great way of announcing to the world that you're where you are on the map. Not really realistic but gameplay wise i think it'd make sense to have zombies not trigger them, hell the damn things glide through barbwire like it ain't there. I'd totally have animals set them off though.

Aye, maybe some sort general trip-wire device that can be combined with different payloads.

Find myself having to aim at zombies feet at a close/medium distance if I want to get headshots, is it zeroed at a particular range?

No exaggeration, with the red dot sight in first person at ranges of I'd say 50-100 metres I'm aiming at the knees to get headshots. Obviously at real close ranges it doesn't affect it but when there is a bit of distance the deviation seems quite extreme.

I'd hope that private hives make a come back some point in the future, for anybody that doesn't have a ready made community behind them, trying to build a player base is going to be difficult for fledgling hosts when they don't have the flexibility to tailor the game for their players. Currently there is a lot of room to try and find a niche, I know some people will say it's just led to a proliferation of "400 VEHICLES!!!! 20 CHOPPERS!!! DEER STANDS THAT FART OUT AS50's!!!" type servers but these things are always cyclic, if it starts getting top heavy with "extra stuff" servers then maybe you can pick up players by running a more vanilla server. Currently 35% of servers are tumbleweed territory, when there is little difference between server A and server B it's only going to drive players to the busier servers (barring the odd drive by player raiding the NWAF on a low pop one). This isn't a complaint, i'm dying to see the SA and I'll be switching my server to SA as soon as possible but trying to get a regular base of players is going to be an even more uphill struggle. -
Why do none of the online maps show the 01 grid row

Been a few occasions where I've dumped a vehicle up north and panicked later as it looks like it's off map when looking at the online version (dayzdb etc), i've had a look at a few others and they all seem to chop out the 01 grid row. Any reason why? -

I don't think making zombies harder or loot rarer will solve the any problems, if anything it'll just exacerbate the kill on sight attitude. It'd make players backpacks even more valuable resources than they currently are.
