    'THERE'S SOMETHING I DON'T GET' Thread

    Its nothing new and some are actually good fun. Watched a stream that was getting a bit boring with no contact and bang this guy “Music guy” appears on the scene blaring 80’s classics. The difference is he had a bit of class about him, and even took requests but left the players streaming alone after a short while. It was Interesting hearing an 80’s anthem disappear into the distance. But it was a great unexpected interlude from the usual Kill or be killed DayZ. Nice people can actually meet up have some fun and part on a good note. If you just run at a player with music and attempt to kill them your just a bit of a dick and not half the class of the guy described above. Some say it was the original Music guy. The Movie line guy is fun as well, he has Batman down to a fine art using clips to communicate.. Some players will copy no doubt but just wont pull it off. Sometimes all this kidding yourself on you’re an A1 sniper and taking it too serious just drains the life out the game. There is far to much “ Player” Bang Bang Bang!!!!! Try some interaction once and a while instead of just killing for the sake of it.

    Pc build for Dayz and future gaming

    I’m using a 2004 build here just to browse the net and Email and occasionally shop etc but going to get back into gamming because of Dayz and the new Elite game I backed. I’m thinking more along the lines of £1200 for a decent rig as I’ve got my money out of this one that was bought ready to play BF2. With the Day Z I’ve only been watching streams on twitch to get idea about the game but I’m quite happy to wait even longer now for my PC. The longer you wait the more bang for your buck. I was getting a new rig in March but it could be next year now. I don’t really want to play early Dayz with Bugs, I just want to bask in its glory say in a year when you cant cheat as much, jump servers like a bunny and both the game and players have matured to a nice level. Only read the last few posts but wanting to add I’m coming back to gaming after five or six years of not playing a single game because of DayZ and the new Elite game I backed having played the original. To me Dayz is refreshing, its hard and unforgiving and I love that. Every fire fight is different and every journey is an adventure. I actually felt sad for the younger gamers that have had to put up with these kill as many as you can in a minute by running down the same corridor before finally getting killed kind of games. Tiny wee pathetic maps that are not natural but engineered to produce a easy meat grinder. Developers seemed to think they needed to please everyone all the time. Sod it time for change and Dayz can be the start. Maps can be designed for interest but when they are this open then it’s the players that decide how they play. Played the original BF 1942, Bf2 PR Mod and trying BF4 on a wee ones PC over Christmas I was shocked how crap the game had become. Tiny maps you cant even flank in, everything is in front of you and its like fighting along a corridor with everyone pushed. Give me a satisfying kill that has taken time using tactics and a bit of luck over these die every five minutes and spawn 200 yards always from a fire fight crap. I remember Epic rounds in 1942 when the map felt huge and you hated getting killed as it took so long to get back into the fight. BF4 you shrug off being killed as it means nothing as your back mere yards to do it all again and how repetitive is that. I was so disappointed looking at BF4 and seeing mountains you cant get to. At least in DayZ if you can see it you can get to it and I love that. So many playing styles can be accommodated. Make it a high learning curve and as realistic weapon wise as possible. Even in BF2 before going over to hardcore PR mod you could unload an entire machine gun clip into a player only for them to run off or worse turn and kill you all because the developers wanted you not to die to easy so artificially bullets and guns were nerfed. I hope dean realises his dream and creates a world that players can appreciate the skill needed to play well and never nerf the weapons.

    Faith in DayZ players restored

    Not played the game yet but when I do play with anyone it will be by route one in the game as in meeting on the server and running with them and having an adventure. Organised squads with external Communications is too organised. Especially having the ability to talk clearly without detection to someone half a mile away covering you just does not do it for me. While its not cheating, it’s a massive advantage that does sway fights. I just want to play the game in my own way, answering to no one and joining up for short periods with others. Also something else I’ll be the guy quite happy to camp for hours if I sense a fire team is about. I’d enjoy nothing better listen to foot steps around me to ramp up the tension. Do you think you will be able to craft booby-trap or IED with time switch. Nothing better than seeing a fire team entering a town and seeing them kill some helpless sod only to leave a few surprises for them before quickly getting out of dodge.

    Faith in DayZ players restored

    Only way to respect that and pay back the generosity is to do the same when you are fully kitted. Always think single players can decide on the spot to try and trust another player but from what Ive seen on the streams any squad of three or four tends to play (shoot to kill without question). Is this seeming demand for kills still in the game due to lack of content probably. I think when players have more to do to survive then we might see more give and take towards each other. A team of four fully kitted have a lot to loose if Joe Blogs that has just turned up saying “Friendly” decides to take advantage so I completely understand. Shooting everyone is the easy way and I hope players and squads try for balance. Sometimes rewarding game play by helping some poor soul out and other times recognising that’s a mobile organised fire team that has one thing on its mind and need to be taken out. The map is still to sanitised being in Alpha. When it’s littered with downed Aircraft, roads with vehicles and maybe harder to survive being a new spawn with Z’ds of actual ‘threat then players I think will help each other. I guess the dream would be to see two or three individual players that have never met join up for protection for the Zombie threat never mind prowling fully kitted squads with external com’s.

    TELEPORT HACK IS BACK!!!

    Really I don’t have a machine to play this right now as I’m rocking a 2004 Build. But I backed the new Elite game on kickstarter so have a copy of that in the bag. Maybe I should wait even longer to get my new rig with people saying wait till the new intel CPu comes out and DDR4. I thought it would gather a lot of pace and be Beta in four or five months.
  10. Just watching streams as I’ve got a 2004 PC. New rig later this year. Anyway I’d be interested why the Mosin guns seem to fire so random due to being damaged. Is it not wrong to assume most fire arms while not pristine are in good working order? It seems total guess work shooting just now and not rewarding covering your friends. If you are in a fire fight and get badly shot and killed then yes I can see a weapon could be hit and damaged but when first looted not on a player I just cant understand why they would be so badly damaged most of the time. I’d just love the guns to be spot on. I stopped playing a game years ago (Football manager) because it brought in a fancy new system dealing with player injuries. Yes the system worked well but had one flaw the developers were so impressed with it they deemed necessary not to go realistic but impose unrealistic numbers of players getting broken legs and bad injuries and it got to the stage every week just because you had hard training on you the game felt you needed taught a lesson and killed a players. Just because you have a nice damage system does not mean you have to go over board damaging everything so players appreciate it, less is more kind of thing.

    Next patch: a big one?

    Hay only watching streams as I don’t have a Pc able to play this yet but the great thing is the development Cost must be covered with over 1 million in sales. Every time something new is added or fixed you can be sure interest will rocket! (No I did not mean that!) Its one of those games that will be hard to loose interest as just as you think your interest is waning – bang something new will drag you back in. At least bodies and loot don’t seem to be disappearing, got to have a reward after that hard worked kill after all.

  13. I have another name for it but it would probably get me banned. Well then they should limit an area you can spawn to so that you can’t spawn five times on five servers at a known rich loot site. Spawning a third time at the same place should mean a loss of loot that was collected on first spawn at the site if they then go on to a fourth time same site then all loot from the second spawn at that site should be lost. System in place for an hours game play.
  14. I keep thinking the game should disallow re-spawn around certain areas. Even if it means a twenty minute run to get to a loot zone. Players should by best practice be spawning in the wood away from buildings anyway. Now I’ve not played the game only watch many hours of streams but to see a player take up a position open fire only to see that player taking incoming disappear on to another server run to where the positioned player is and spawn back in kills it for me just now. Its like using a private safe road to your enemy that they cant see. Player A takes Shot, So Player B Character should be locked in to the server for a time be it fifteen minutes or until the distance between A & B has become such contact is broken. If player B logs out they cant log back on next to player A.But as squad play seems the order of the day maybe the game needs a check box that recognises players in your own group. It’s something they will have to work on, but I’m confident they will get a system in place.

  16. Please keep this game as hardcore as you can. Listening to a stream and the guy I was watching one of the lads that plays with him was talking about the way you die and how no matter what you should be able to heal a fellow player within a set time. So basically the guy plays in a squad so has the back up that would mean no matter how poor they played a single player absolutely owning him with multiple hits would not kill him for a set time. So the team mates could deal with the enemy and bandage the players owned. So while catering to the players who are poor losers and cant take a hit or respect the game enough to want it to kill them if they have been surprised,or not taken enough care or just tactically lost out. It penalises the single player while turning squads into more or less infinite life. So you have back up of a squad this leads to less respect for risk as you have the back up to cover up being killed under normal conditions so can push it further. Totally missing the point of the game being high risk and heart pounding and tense in a fight. Please don’t turn the game into a BF instant heal live forever or COD. Alarming some of the crap ideas you hear.
  17. The Funny thing is with the Third person view I watched streams and the streamer has been working in a team. They find some poor sole and comment something like “ What a scum bag he’s TPV up on the roof to see us, he knew exactly where I was then” Half an hour later the very same streamer is up on another roof TPV reporting “I’ve got a player, yeah running towards us I’ll wait till he’s close before taking the shot” He’s flat on the roof doing the very thing he commented on was such a scum thing to do. Blind to the fact when they do it’s all part of the tactic. You can see removing TPV opens up opportunities when you have players actually blind with suppression fire. Players will move in on a first person view server they will not on a TPV as they know they can be seen on the latter. One thing the game will stand on is if the ballistics and sound are as real as possible. Taking skill to fire a weapon and having the skill to understand the sound is critical but only if its done well in the game.

    Do you combat log?

    Murpheys law, as soon as you let your guard down somethings gonna happen. Its what makes this game so great! Maybe they should make spawn zones so you can only log out in the peripheries and not up buildings or as suggested a 15 minute clock if a shot has been fired near you. Only time you can spawn back up a building if the server restarts.

    Do you combat log?

    Watching a stream last night and the guys working in a three man squad (squad A) came across ( sorry don’t know the map too well) a small airfield and seen players go into what they called the camo building the one with the Cell when you go in. Now shooting starts and the squad outside has them bang to rights as we say. The team inside (squad B )take a hit or two and one of three believed inside gets killed. Now one guy has a scope and two others in squad A take up position and there is no way out of it for the guys inside. Now as things go and more or less seen every time Squad B always tends to Combat log out. But no they stay on and fight. Respect given for not being pussy’s! Now squad A outside cant believe it, they keep up the tension only for one of them getting cocky near the main door gets killed. The other two keep it up believing rightly two are still inside. Squad B risks the odd look outside and the guy with the scope cant get them. The server then goes for a restart and Squad A accepts their luck is out and the fantastic contact is over. But no they log back in to find the guys (Squad B ) have logged back in as well. Massive respect to the guys as even with the best excuse they all still came back. Dayz as it should be played.

The real problem I know is keeping it as fair a game with people jumping from server to server, logging out while in a fight and even logging back in to take the guy who has been honest to play the right way by surprise. I think Dean needs to sit round a table for an hour with the team and say right how do we beat the cheats. Most of all just hoping they keep it as hardcore as possible. Make death annoying, the Guns realistic and combat the cheats and the rest will take care of itself.

    Big performance bug discovered that sometimes affected servers, creating rubber-banding and other bugs. Pos fix in testing. #DayZDaily Sounds like a dirty big bug was found and is getting chased right out of Chernarus by the team. You guys finding bugs and noting down how you can replicate them as well must be a huge help. So do your bit every so often. They really need to get the sound semi fixed by the new guy......I wish him well thats one hell of a job you have there. But its one of the most important bits to me to get 100% right. If you cant trust the sound then half the game play is dead. You need to trust that you know that shot came from the north or west etc

    Yeah the guy I watch streaming is having trouble and almost given up. Seems a mess just now and that before they get back to stuff that did not work like the sound. Not good when the guys that know the game inside out are saying “I’m not going up any stairs or ladders tonight” It will all come good, just taken a backward step.
  25. Never played this but have watched hours and hours of steamer doing so. I want it to be slow, I look forward to learning how to play. Finding the places and learning the weapons and all the systems. I'm glad its not a skill less rinse and repeat boring shooter. To me it’s a bit like BF2 project reality- it was harsh and unforgiving unlike the vanilla kiddie version of BF2 and I loved it. You went down fast in PR unlike the vanilla retail that you could unload a whole clip into people only for them to turn round and fight back. You did that in PR they went down simple as that. Plenty of games that require very little skill to play well, just look at BF4.
