    Lighting and Electricity

In the standalone it would be interesting to see survivors being able to set up searchlights, or simply lighting the streetlights or other electric lights. I will be the first to admit the tactical fallacy of that as it would make areas more visible, but it would allow for excellent world building and allow the survivors to establish large bases with lit areas that would make approaching them in the night more difficult dangerous. My idea for fuel: All of the abandoned car batteries. Implement an item called CAR BATTERY that can come charged or not charged. In the event it is charged, you can connect it to some lighting equipment that can be salvaged from vehicles, streetlights or residential/military areas. The batteries would be consumed after a certain period of time. Charging them would be done by creating a charging station, combining an OLD BIKE, some SCRAP metal, and WIRING. Essentially building a pedal generator. A survivor would "use" the pedal generator. It would consume "thirst" and "hunger" since they would be expending body energy and converting it to electrical energy. This would allow survivors to essentially convert food into "batteries" useful for further base building and possibly powering cars, if car batteries are implemented. Thoughts? P.S: I think this idea would fit well into the framework of the game already. No horribly messy coding. It would essentially be like "creating fire" where a light source is created. It would require the creation of an arbitrary object called "battery" the ability to "fill" this object when near a context sensitive area. In this case the area would be "generator" which in turn would be created from a bike. ALSO: You could FIND generators in game (I think I;ve seen them around) repair with engine parts, fill with jerry cans, VOILA, electricity!
  2. Well, the counterargument to that idea is, why not just go for the legs? They're a bigger target and crawling zombies are pathetic. Making a whole army of crawlers isn't any harder than just shooting them in the chest. In fact currently that's what I do anyways since it prevents more zombies from spawning. While your idea isn't BAD its also not really going to change the game much in any case. Headshot, legshot, either way they're ineffective.

To Shoot or not to shoot; how do you decide?

ZA RODINU!!! Actually, Russians tend to be okay in my experience. I have an in with them, being a Russian myself, but they'll usually give you the time of day if you're respectable. As in you DONT surrender. Make a counter offer. If someone contacts you and is like DROP IT. Be like okay, dont shoot, I wont drop my gun I will turn around (use 3rd person) or I will leave immediately. If you do that, most players will actually let it go. Surrender is just such a bad decision.

To Shoot or not to shoot; how do you decide?

I dunno man, it sounds like you had it coming. Not trying to be a jerk, but this guy basically had you pinned right, so he says SIT. You sit! What good comes from fidgeting? You pull out a shit gun and still aim at him, he shoot you. Would you have been any worse off if you had listened to him and did EXACTLY as he said? No not really. You might have walked away. On the other hand, if the guy wasn't responding on his mic, and started issuing you orders to surrender, you probably shoulda either tried to run or shot him anyways. If he's telling you to sit, or surrender or some shit like that, chances are he's just gonna rob you or kill you. For me, I basically only kill if the other player has a bandit skin already and is acting suspicious. Like today I ran across a bandit at Cherno firestation. I declared friendly, and he did too, we kinda aimed around each other, but in the end, I gave him a transfusion. He kept dancing around though. I asked him stand by while I looked around (asked politely via mic). He walked out of the station, and I did too a while later. He was peeking around the corner, aiming. But didn't shoot. Then he walked back into the fire station. Now I know a camping douche when I see one. He was decently equipped, he had no reason to go back into the firestation tower again, and he wasn't communicating what he was doing which would have been the good thing to do. So as he walks back in I see he's still kinda aiming at me, not directly but sideways. I ended up dropping him. TBH, probably saved some newbie's life at the end of the day. Only reason he didnt fuck with me was probably because I was better equipped.

    DayZ Best Date For Release

Actually, I hope they wait until after the holidays. I hate it when games release on the holidays since I can never really play a lot what with all of the family and eating and shit. So in all honesty I hope they wait until the first week of January.

Day Z Standalone:preventing farming and ghosting

Bullshit to infinity. You don't need to lock down the NWAF. And even then, go on any low pop server, go to balota airfield, and run up the strip, collect loot from hangars, sit in the control tower for 5 minutes, then run back down the strip. If zombies follow you, oh no, go inside a building and headshot all of them. If you think this is tactical or difficult you are a baby. And this is what a TON of players do. In fact I'm sure the abundance of AS-50s and M107 is exactly because of this. Exactly because people will go from server to server and abuse spawns.

Day Z Standalone:preventing farming and ghosting

Recycling loot? yep. If you hit the same loot spawns over and over until something good spawns, thats farming you limpdick. Thats as much an exploit as duping, it just takes longer to get the payout.

    Make Sniping more realistic

Uhhh yeah dude, ZEROING is adjusting your rifle for bullet drop. I suggest you do some reading on the matter. If you zero your rifle to 800 yards, then where your crosshair is, will be where the bullet hits at 800. The zeroing is the difficult part, and I'd agree that it should be a bit harder to do. Now, as far as wind is concerned, its not a bad idea, but it would require too much work at least at the moment. Hitting a target at range is VERY difficult. And spamming out more bullets? Well, that's something you can do in life if your first shot doesn't hit. The problem I'm seeing, is just people not bothering to check for snipers, or sitting out in the open. If you're in Cherno or Elektro and you're standing still in the open, you're gonna get shot. Its the law of the jungle.
  9. Post your stories about killing little bandit D-bags who killed you, your friends, loved ones for no fucking reason. Here's my story: So my friend Sonic and I are trecking from the balota airfield. Decently equipped, we're skirting the edges of Cherno, looking to see if there's any activity. Sonic's got a AK-cobra, me I've got a CZ-550 and an AK in my pack. So as we look on from the tree line, a wave of player deaths rolls in. I mean it musta beena bout 5-6 guys whose names came up. Now we hear no shots, but as we're scouting the roofs for snipers I see 2 dead dudes on a roof. Still bleeding. Motherfucker, so there's someone sniping. So we decide to check it out. Cuz we're stoopid. We approach from the north side, near the factory. The dead guys are on the highest building dead on the roof. I keep checking the long ladder leading up to them, and it still clear. Meanwhile I hear no more shots, and we're taking care not to fire off any of our own. We go through an apt building near the hospital, find a dead bandit, but no signs of anything else. Gut him for his beans and bury that ass. Finally we get to the factory. I'm in the building facing toward the town proper, Sonic decides it's time to go up the ladder. So he goes up to the first landing, but the ladder causes him to dismount. Next thing I know he's fucking dead. Shot comes directly from above me. Ohohohoho I got you now you turban wearing motherfucker! So I crawl all the way to where the ladder to the roof is. I KNOW there's the bastard up there. The only question is, has he heard me coming? Should I throw a smoke up there? Maybe he doesn't know..... so I decide to climb up. As I'm coming up I see him peeking around the corner at the ladder. I'm expecting to fucking die, here and now. And he shoots..... and it breaks my legs, I'm bleeding. Well now I'm on the ground, with my AK set to full. I dump 18 into him. Half panic, half rage. He's done, Sonic's laughing through SKYPE. I check his equipment. Little fucker just has a CZ-550, and some fucking soda. What's he doing up there? Oh he gots hisself a nice little rifle and a cozy little spot. I bandage, I morphine. I eat his food. Overall, no real loss on my part. Probably need to butcher a goat and eat it later, but totally worth it. FUCK THAT! Fuck all those weak little shits camping Cherno roofs and murdering player. Fuck em for having no balls and no skill to even HUNT players down. I buried that asshole with his gear. I just hope he comes looking for his shit again so I can nail his ass a second time. Whats YOUR story?

    Another one bites the dust

    1. Still took that needledick down. 2. I've played as a carebear, trekking through the woods for about 20 days. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of running away from a large city every time I hear shots, even though I know I'm outfitted like a boss. 3. Its annoying to see all of the player names cycle up on the kill list, and I know its probably a bunch of newbies getting torn up by some asshole who thinks he's pro as fuck.

    Alcohol

If alcohol was added as a cheap alternative to painkillers/morphine this would be an interesting idea. Also if taken WITH painkillers the alcohol would have some very nasty effects on your character. Passing out intermittently, possibly even death. Still, we always find the empty whiskey bottles, it'd only make sense to find a FULL one eventually.

    Clips, Magazines, CLIPAZINES

First of all, Now then, I almost had a derp aneurism when I found out you could not combine half empty mags in this game. So I can combine 4 x 2round slugs into an 8 pack, but I cant combine 2 x1 round slugs into a 2 pack? EXCELLENT! So, first order of business, I would like to see a better magazine system implemented that allows the player to combine somewhat spent magazines and discard empties. This would be (somewhat) easy to implement as it would basically be an extension of the current "combine" feature that allows players to switch between 45 revolver and 45 1911 mags. Piggybacking off this idea, someone once said "Combat isn't about shooting, it's about reloading". This is quite true, if you find 50 rounds of makarov ammo for your shiny new Mak, but you only have 1 magazine, you still only have 8 shots before you must clench your bum and run for the hills. Face it, having ammo doesn't mean having the effective ability to shoot it in your gun. So my idea is having magazines be scavengeable and LOADABLE. This means magazines each hold their assigned number of rounds to be loaded from a BULK AMMO BOX. Something like a "50 round box of ammo X" or a "20 round package of y.yy x yy" This dynamic would make scavenging for magazines more of a priority since after all how many effective rounds are you comfortable with? Maybe you want 3 30round mags and a big pile of ammo in your backpack. Thus effectively taking up 4 slots. Maybe you're paranoid as hell and want all 9 of those mags loaded (Do you have 9 mags to load? :P) This would also serve a dual role since it would allow players to carry bulk ammo in just one or two inventory slots. Especially applies to low capacity weapons such as makaroni, 1911, revolver, etc. There's no freaking way 1 makarov mag takes up a "slot" in my backpack. (take this from a makarov owner, 2 makarov mags take up approx as much space as 1 box of 50 rounds for 9x18mm) Thoughts comments?
  13. So glad you take the time to respond to a thought out post with an equally thought out responce.

    Clips, Magazines, CLIPAZINES

This is basically the idea I'm going for. The ability to pool ammo and relegate duties makes really good sense in the survival situation. You got a guy carrying gasoline, a guy carrying med supplies, a guy carrying ammo, etc etc etc. And again, to reiterate the whole purpose: this is for world building. Really going deeper than the shooting survival aspect of the game into the deeper long term aspect of the game. Building bases, distributing weapons, taking back the land, warring against other factions. The ammo management and magazine mechanics are just a stepping stone. Kinda like what the devs said, CORE development. This is something not just suggested, but REQUIRED. Something without which the game would feel flat and like any other shooter.
  15. Left 4 Dead is the best zombie game to date. You can argue this, or you can accept it as the truth. The fast zombies in the game make for a fast, dynamic, DANGEROUS experience. The movements of the DayZ zombies are one of the first things that will be fixed in the SA, Rocket has already confirmed this. But the zombies under no circumstance will be slow. There is no danger or "creepiness" in it. The game is already easy if you know to shoot for the legs and incapacitate them turning them into crawlers. Slow zombies are just going to make the game easymode scavenging. Guys, lets not reinvent the wheel here. We already have the damn wheel, its called every other zombie game out there. Lets take what is good, improve on the bad and have an excellent game. L4D did zombies very well, lets learn from that shit. Lets learn from other games that did weapons well, inventories well, nature well. Again, there are contemporary games we can look at, stop discussing slow vs fast zombies. That discussion ended a LONG fucking time ago.

    Weapon Misfire and/or Jam

Okay, so what you're suggesting isn't WEAPON malfunctions such as mechanical trouble with the gun (broken firing pin, damaged chamber, etc) What your idea is, is crappy ammo. That actually makes a lot of sense, since the ammo you find has been exposed to the elements and is potentially corroded and/or wet. I've personally run into this IRL where some ammo I've used is just shit quality and has caused my weapon to malfunction. I like this idea, it would work. It would just be a random event, just like it would be in real life. Maybe finding good quality, namebrand ammo would actually be valuable, like finding a brand new box of winchester .45ACP would be a GOLDMINE because you could depend on it no matter what.
  17. Happymrsnowman

    Clips, Magazines, CLIPAZINES

Well, a few games have done the "reload and lose your magazine" mechanic. Where if you reload, you lose all of the ammo in that mag since your character drops it on the ground. The amount of ammunition carried was also a relatively realistic amount (5 1911 magazines, 30 shotgun cartridges). The game I'm referencing is Mafia, but I'm sure other games have done it.

    Cities to Strongholds

And for every fantastic well thought out idea, there's a coughing sputtering retarded one, with no purpose. But hey, who's to judge?
  19. Happymrsnowman

    Cities to Strongholds

Yeah the idea is that certain groups would fight over land and resources, much as they would in real life.

SOLUTION! Dynamic system of "bandit" recognition

All of the people saying no here are bandits. Fact.
  21. Happymrsnowman

    Clips, Magazines, CLIPAZINES

I think the way sniper rifles are currently set up, they're very rare, and the ammo isn't much better. The CZ-550 is a bastard to actually locate, and while its ammo isn't horribly rare, for the rarer rifles, their mags are already very very rare. I think if duping was fixed and ghosting/farming wasn't an option, then sniper rifles wouldn't be considered OP since there would be less of them. If you think about how often you ACTUALLY come across a true sniper rifle its not that often.
  22. Happymrsnowman

    Beeing able to choose mag'

Yes, but not instantly. It should be made a separate action. It also takes into account the number of magazines you actually have.

    DayZ Single-Player

I just think you're looking for a different style of game. You're describing STALKER or Dead Island, or any number of other zombie games with open worlds and NPCs. While your idea isn't terrible, it simply doesn't apply to DAYZ. We're just talking two different games. Its kind of like how L4D didn't have a SERIOUS singleplayer component. Sure, it was there, but the game wasn't about that.

    Fortifications and Base Building

2 things: #1. Please do use the search function, there are a lot of these threads saying mostly the same thing. Why, there are 2 topics on just the first page for this. #2. Just as building a whole building from the ground up would take a long time, so would building any kind of fortification. What I think is a better idea is fortifying existing buildings and clearing certain (especially further out) areas. Lets say you took over a farmstead or small industrial sheds. You can fortify them with sandbags, camo, and sheet metal. The building is already there, so WHY build from the ground up? It makes no logical sense. Sure you can build something far in the hills, but its harder to get to and harder to build in general. The ability to fortify and expand on current buildings is a much better idea.
