I actually have another "idea". It would be introducing ammo boxes ala BUT, you don't have to put just one type of ammo into it. You'd be able to PILE ammo into it, as a mess, just to hold your ammo in one unified location. Think of this as a backpack within your backpack, specifically for one purpose. Kinda like a toolbox, but only for ammo. I realize the argument against this is "so you want a container INSIDE your container", but my instant comeback to that is, it would make sense, because it's a method of carefully organizing some of your equipment rather than dumping it directly into your backpack. I also think the "toolbox" should be an actual container that you put tools such as hunting knife, wire fencing kit, vehicle wrenches, etc into. -
I love it when people sploosh their bloodbags on me! But seriously, it would allow for specialization: You'd have gearheads who would carry tools necessary for vehicle repairs and it would allow them to do so more efficienty. You'd have medics with real medbags for suturing, epi-pens, morphine, blood trans equipment, etc. You'd have engineers who'd establish bases, set up barbed wire, tank traps, landmines, sandbags, etc etc etc You'd have comms specialists, who have radios, GPS, rangefinder, compass, map, etc And of course your run of the mill survivor could carry a hodgepodge of these tools that they need for basic survival. But it would really add to the worldbuilding and community of the game where once you get past the run of the mill survival, you can become a member of "society"

Let's have less hi-tech guns available
Happymrsnowman replied to JimJam (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Actually, as someone from Ukraine, There's some advice I've got, in former Soviet countries, RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS are usually LEGAL TO OWN. And HANDGUNS are usually ILLEGAL, or require hard to obtain permits. This leads me to think that the double barrel should be VERY common, the winchester to be common, and the enfield to be common-uncommon. Most of the pistols would be uncommon at best, with the exception of a revolver or makarov which people would have hidden away from the older days. Also, the AKM would be more common than the AK-74 since it is basically a revision of the venerable ak-47, so there would be more copies of it around, even at military barracks. The 74 would be SLIGHTLY SLIGHTLY less common. -

Happymrsnowman replied to JimJam (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
ENOUGH! Have you been shot with a 50 cal? Do you know of someone who has been? If shot in the leg or arm, it will NOT be a one hit kill. It may cripple you, it will cause severe bloodloss, shock, etc. There is more to this than reality, there is game balance. Make the gun deal 10000 damage. It will be crippling, causing passing out, bloodloss and probably limb breakage. Thats enough to kill someone as is. But there is no reason to suddenly crumple to the ground dead because a bullet grazed your ass. -
Where are we getting this from and when's it happening?

Unless you're on the coast, water isn't really that large a part of the game. Now I know on other custom maps it IS, but on Chernorus, there's not enough water to really make it worth creating a complicated dynamic. It would be cool to put in though.

Actually, I just got infected yesterday. Thankfully a friend of mine was playing with me. We proceeded to raid the Berezino hospital TWICE and didnt find any antibiotics. After stocking up on bloodbags we hit the airfield and came back. In that time, my friend gave me 2 transfusions. The third time in the hospital we finally found some antibiotics. Those should NOT be so tough to find. Also, setting a fire and eating and drinking regularly should be enough to get you over a disease, especially a somewhat minor one.

Happymrsnowman replied to JimJam (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'll be honest, I've been playing on non private regular servers for a week now. Finally at the end of day 7 raiding the NE airfield I found an AK-74 kobra and an 870. First off the 870 sucks juicy balls. The AK is okay, but it took me FOREVER to find the damn thing. So I don't really agree with your assessment that these weapons are "common" Also, as far as effectiveness goes, a Lee Enfield will be just as effective as any assault rifle since its damn accurate and does almost double the damage. Also, the Winchester 1866 is hands down the best shotgun due to being able to one shot any zombie and having a 15 round capacity. And it would 2-3 shot a survivor too. What would removing military weapons accomplish? More Enfield battles? The only reason people don't already do that is lack of confidence. The only guns trully fear inducing are the straight up sniper rifles such as AS50 and M107 due to their ability to instakill and 1000meter range. As far as guns with iron sights go, its a fair fight no matter which way you twist it. -

Yeah really OOOH SHIT look at that! 1. Last reply August 13 2. DMR and M24 mags conversion. Last reply Nov 25. 3. Add more guns discussion. Last reply Oct 31. 4. Yes, this is about ammo management. Last reply Nov 9. 5. Last reply Sept 19 6. etc etc etc I know I'm not the first to think of it. I'm bringing it up because I think it should be in the forefront of the changes, not something we forgot about because "oh it's been mentioned before". I'd rather keep bringing up something that SHOULD BE ADDED IN, rather than let it be forgotten and left out because "oh well Iknow we talked about it, but oops we forgot". -
Not a bad idea! Although to be honest when you're hurt currently, its already a massive detriment, inability to stand up, passing out, bleeding, vision hearing loss, etc. Having your guy crying is just insult to injury. How bout this: You can walk with a broken leg on a splint, but your guy has to groan. Kind of like coughing when sick, he groans intermittently attracting zombies? Thing is, a problem that comes up is, when fully healthy a player has all the reason in the world to play sloppy, running around making noise, etc, but when they're hurt, and badly, the penalties are SO crippling (especially if you have a broken leg) that survival becomes nigh impossible. If you get ****ed up in the middle of a city, you basically have to log off, and beg for medical assistance on the forums. Your chances of getting out are so slim, and would be slimmer still if your guy was screaming.

Diapers - life savers/life takers
Happymrsnowman replied to Feral (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Because lets face it, what this game really needs is more trolling. One shot snipers? check! Chopper douches flying over the coast for newbies? check! Hackers? Check! and now, brough to you through the genius of the community: POOPING! At last, we can soil ourselves and each other! At last we can almost quite literally **** in each other's cereal (or beans). This mechanic wouldn't be used for griefing, trolling or simple internet immaturity! Not at all, it would be used in creative and constructive ways to build a better game experience. Abso-fucking-lutely! -

Frankly? shove it. I DID use search. Out of the results that came up, the most recent was 5 days ago, and it wasn't very detailed. I think this suggestion actually BELONGS in the game rather than half of the half baked shit people come up with like mp3 players, diapers and other bullshit. You're gonna sit there and condemn me creating a topic that seems to be pretty well received with some constructive criticism? Yeah okay asshole. I see now what battle snail posted. Now I know. I'm glad there's already a consideration for it. But like VeryApe said, if you want a good idea to go through, lets keep it near the top of the suggestion board, before it gets pushed to page 15, because a bunch of retards are posting how they'd like to see seatbelts and nitrous implemented into the game. -
Why so surprised? This kind of carp happens all the time.
-
Ain't gonna happen. The focus of the game in player interaction. PVP, not necessarily hostile, but what we're trying to build is a community not NPC cities. Think EVE, not WOW. Shabby metaphor, but it does the job.

Standalone Poll: First Person Only?
Happymrsnowman replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Against. 3rd person lets you do small nuanced things like not be raped by tall grass when you're prone. Sure, when I lay down I normally can't see, but I can also raise my head slightly above the grass. An inbetween from crouching and proning where I can look around. When I'm trying to sneak, I have more body and enviro awareness than I would in first person which is akin to playing through a camera strapped to the top of my head. Its not about SUPER HARDCOREZ REALISM, its about making the game FEEL right. The ability to turn your head with the ALT key is great, so I want that ability for tilting my head slightly. I can peek around a corner without leaning. This is why I favor 3rd person. -
A place where everyone can discuss upcoming changes, and what bandits need trouting. Hell, it could be held in the Pubs in Cherno or Elektro. If the standalone has music we can even dance a merry tuna.

Night Time .... lets take it seriously.
Happymrsnowman replied to Spunkmire's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Am I the only one who thinks that nighttime should be fixed slightly? As in make the flashlight NOT SUCK. (Seriously, I've never seen a game that does the flashlight right EVER). And make the night not black as hell. I go camping at least a few times a year, in the woods, pretty far out there. 1. I can see tree silouettes and a bit of ground, even in a moonless night. Sure, I wouldn't be droppin' bitches at 50 yards at night, but I could at LEAST see where I was going. 2. A flashlight, lit in the middle of the woods will illuminate a crazy amount. More than a pathetic little patch, with a razor sharp boundary. You turn on a flashlight in the darkness, that light will scatter more than you can imagine. Try it, turn off ALL the lights in your house and light a flashlight. Tell me it wont light up your room almost perfectly. -
Realistic interaction with vehicles.
Happymrsnowman replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeaaa Yeaaaaaaah, because you know, soviet era vehicles were all about the safety measures. Lets stick to legitimate suggestions. -
I think it'd be a great idea. Anyone here familiar with Americas Army medical system? Where it tells you a symptom of a patient and you have a few choices to go from based on your medkit? For instance: Symptom: Trouble breathing 1. Field tracheoctomy 2. Apply a cold compress 3. Cut his pants off 4. Apply pressure to throat Symptom: bleeding 1. Apply pressure/sterilize 2. Heatpack 3. Cut his pants off 4. Apply a sling Symptom: Shaking, clammy skin 1. Heatpack 2. Bandage wrists 3. Cut his pants off. 4. field tracheoctomy Symptom: Trouble moving a limb 1. Sling/splint 2. Suture 3. Cut his pants off 4. Antibiotics

Thank you for the support fellas. Please post some feedback if you can, and if you're a modder or know a modder, or know a guy who knows a guy who knows a modder, lets get this idea to them. At least this idea is more grounded than half of the ones on this board. -
Yep, they sure do. All AK weapons have pretty decent bayonets, pretty similar to the ingame hunting knife. I don't think bayonets should be one hit on ANYTHING. Its a thrust with a relative small (6-10) inch blade, unless it was an absolute headshot, it would not kill in a hit. I think making it a 2-3 hit zombie kill and 5-6 player kill would be pretty balanced. Think about it, there has to be some downside to using a melee weapon that also has a rifle.

DayZ Standalone: Military guns and how they can balanced and fixed-modified
Happymrsnowman replied to logan23's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Seddrik, while what you say is somewhat right, you have to remember, the eating and drinking aspect of this game is one of the things that makes it most fun. From what we're discussing, guns would need maintenance only after use, and even then it would be optional. Essentially, not maintaining your gun would be either a choice by the player or simple negligence (or lack of equipment). Wouldyour gun failing you be an exciting aspect of the game? Yeah I think so. It wouldn't be necessary for you to do it, as opposed to eating, since you done NEED the gun to function in order to survive. As far as the .50 cal thing, it's off topic, but since you brought it up, I'll go ahead and rebute it. You say it's nerve wracking to know someone with a .50 cal might be watching. SO WHAT? Why are they watching? Why is a sniper sitting in a hill, sniping at newbs who are trying to gear up. Or even not newbs, why is a sniper, JUST SITTING THERE WATCHING? DayZ has a strong PvP element, no denying that, but what purpose does a camping ass**** serve? Is he enriching gameplay by being a little god and striking people down with a gun that one shots? If at least the .50 cals we NOT one shot kills then the sniping element would take skill and you could argue these "pro bandits" were assassins or something. But they're not. They're trolls, sitting out there with their one shot cannons, looking to do nothing but ruin the game for other people. The stress of it comes not from the fact that "oh someone might be watching so I should stay low" its comes from the fact that "oh, my elbow was sticking around the corner and some dillweed killed me" They don't need to be removed, just made not one hit kills to ANY part of the body except head. -
Stand Alone: Clan Pack; Steam Purchase Option
Happymrsnowman replied to WargameKlok's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So long as the bonuses remain fiscal ONLY. I definitely wouldn't want clans getting any advantage over single players. Having players you know and trust is already a massive advantage in DAYZ, so like I said, as long as there wasn't a preorder/group purchase bonus of any kind, even an extra can of beenz. -

Happymrsnowman replied to Feral (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm sorry but I don't think this is a good idea. If pooping will be an arbitrary action similar to eating and drinking, it can be done as quickly and discreetly. I think the "bottom" line is, poop before going for a raid and you'll be okay. Time needed inbetween eating and drinking is plenty to go through an entire city, and if you're in the city and have to eat, its the same inconvenience and the same prevention, EAT AHEAD OF TIME. I think this idea is just an extension on a questionable mechanic (IMO) and I strongly doubt it would add anything of value to the gameplay. I think its just another feature that will just bog down gameplay in a "sticky" direction.
