DayZ Server - Linux_Debian - 1.7.3
cunning replied to ChillaxOwner's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It may sound like bragging, but honestly I think it's just a different mindset. A linux guy messes around for hours to get something working, someone on a forum asks if that thing you've done, can be done... The answer is yes, I've done it. A lot of unix admins, myself included assume that's the answer that the questioner was looking for, and now that he knows it's possible he'll want to hack away at it and figure it out for himself. That's what we, for the most part like to do, if we didn't we wouldn't be unix/linux users/admins. I'd imagine that the thought in sanzzess's head is that if the questioner for some reason didn't feel like figureing it out (time constraints etc.) that he'd post a follow up or more than likely send him a PM since I'm sure there's very little interest in bash syntax (for example) on a forum not specifically dedicated to the subject. -
Essentially the same effect as a bullet to the face. :)

Servers Closing??? GloVine gone???
cunning replied to Chiller_360's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Honestly man, more power to ya. It's really messed up that the rule about not passwording public servers at this point simply ensures that script kiddies will be on the server. Being able to hop to another server is one is down is nice and all but 95% of the time you end up staying on the same server anyway. It would be nice if a number of private hives got together and shared a DB, and honestly if that happened I could care less what happened to the script kiddie .. I mean public hive. -
I actually think this is a great idea. Even if you do like PvP but have never played Taviana, getting on a server where you only have to worry about zombies while you get the lay of the land sounds nice. The main problem with public servers is not really the PvP anyway, it's that dying doesn't have the same meaning to a legit player as it has to someone who can spawn fully geared and teleport to you, that is on the off chance that the script kiddie is not running in god mode, where dying is simply out of the equation. Taviana seems like an awesome map, I may join you to explore in peace as my only ventures in Taviana ended minutes from the spawn point, totally unarmed with a bullet in the face. Which Version of Taviana is it?

Looking for other server admins to ask a few questions.
cunning replied to hydrochetta's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'm doing away with my server, it's brutal. I'm a unix admin in real life and I don't need a second job. i'm not even playing anymore, dayz for me is sifting through log files and endlessly banning script kiddies (sorry .. Hacker has meaning to me and these morons are not hackers). -
I have no clue why that guy didn't just sprint back and fourth until he dehydrated to death.

Loot spawns and Zeds in 1.7.4.4
cunning replied to fire_hazard's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I've kind of noticed this as well, if I pull up really close on an ATV (I'm guessing the type of vehicle is meaningless), they will never spawn. I've walked around the Heli crash for 5 to 10 minutes without them ever spawning, but loot definitly does spawn. If I move out 20 or so meters, all the zombies spawn and start walking outwards from the chopper. After server restart tonight I'll try to grab it on fraps. -
Server Questions - Dogs & Clothes problems.
cunning replied to DarkRaven (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I had the same issue with skins on mine when I upgraded to 1.7.4.4, There was a fix posted that admins can modify in their scripts.txt file, tried it and now swapping to any of the cloths avaiable works without anyone getting kicked. Thread Post with fix(s) is: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/107766-1744-script-restriction-errors-38-41-45-etc/page__st__80#entry1024522 Just put that scripts.txt in and restart your server and it should work fine. It did for me.
