    My (technically) First Story

I got introduced to DayZ through watching other people play it and was fascinated, then when Steam had a sale on Combined Ops I said why not, let's try it out. You don't get an appreciation for what DayZ is by watching it, that's for sure. It's an experience, not a game. There have been times when I've played where I have almost literally crapped my pants or had a heart attack, either because I've got myself into a sticky situation or because I've found some badass loot that I desperately don't want to lose. It's strange where the adrenaline comes from - I remember finding my first sniper rifle (a CZ of course) and thinking jackpot!! My heart was racing and I wanted to get the hell out of there before I died. Which is unique to DayZ because in almost every other game I've ever played picking up a weapon, especially a crap one, isn't a big deal. But it is in DayZ. Even finding a box of matches or a map is still a big deal for me, even after all this time playing, just because every little piece of survival gear you can find or that can make your life easier is one step closer to not dying. So every bit of gear is a small thrill, until you've played DayZ you can't possibly understand that. Of course I died btw 15 min after getting that CZ :)

No more flies on dead bodies?

Reason I ask is because I watched FrankieonPC's newest DayZ video and noticed that there were no flies on dead bodies either when he played, and I'm pretty sure he was recording with the new patch installed.

No more flies on dead bodies?

Last night I played DayZ for the first time with the new 1.7.5.1 patch. I noticed a lot of changes, but one of them I didn't see mentioned in the changelog which is that it appears dead bodies do not, immediately at least, attract flies. Has anyone else noticed this or can confirm it? I'm assuming if this is actually part of the patch that it's designed to make dead players much harder to find.

    My body disappeared

Oh I know, it did suck because I had everything I needed although I guess the thing to do is find a tent or load up my vehicle with things that I don't want to lose if I die. It is what it is, I just wasn't sure if I had done something wrong in respawning or something.

    My body disappeared

Maybe I just took too long then, I did run there and it must have taken at least 45 min. I didn't think about that. There were no flies when I got there so the body was completely gone. But since the server was empty except for me there wasn't much I could do about it. I did find a few broken vehicles on the way but I figured the time it would take me to fix them could be spent running. Oh well, bye bye ghillie suite :)

best way to team up ??

Yeah this is my problem with playing alone, if you break your leg without morphine you're really screwed. And of course really the only place you're likely to find morphine is in a hospital in a city and you'll probably die in there trying to get it. It also sucks that you can't use bloodbags yourself, I realize that you can eat meat to regen your blood but I've sometimes found it really hard to find matches. I'd love to play with other people too but finding them is impossible, you can almost forget about finding a random person on a server, you have to have friends who play the game. Almost none of my friends play PC games, only console. Actually it'd be pretty cool in the standalone if there was some kind of Battlefield type squad option for those people who do want to team up. That way at least like minded people can find each other, you could create a squad for your friends or join a random one. If you join a squad you are kind of indicating that you do want to play as a team, although obviously that could still be abused. But then that also adds to the excitement.

    My body disappeared

Still pretty new to DayZ. Yesterday I did a stupid thing and got too greedy at a chopper crash at the NW airfield, had low blood and got bashed by a zombie who then ate me to death while I was knocked out. I respawned in Elektro I think and decided to make the almost hour long run back to the airfield to loot my body and pick up my UAZ. I hopped into the UAZ where I'd left it just outside the airfield and literally drove straight to the crash site to get my stuff.... and my body was gone. Now here's the thing, I was playing very late so there was no one else on the server at the time. What happened? Is it a glitch or did I do something wrong? I've never actually had the opportunity to loot my own body before so I don't know how this works.

    Am I crazy??

So that is actually something that server admins can do, add buildings? I had no idea. That's a little confusing :) Because I don't want to get used to a building being there that might not be on another server. But I guess that might possibly be the advantage of consulting the DayZ DB map, so that you know what is vanilla and what could be server specific.

    Am I crazy??

A few weeks ago I picked a private server at random and played for maybe an hour. There was almost no one playing so I ran into Elektro hoping that I could get in and out with some decent starting gear without running into any hostile players. When I was done, as I exited Elektro to the south near the harbor, I found what I can only describe as barracks. You know, the long room with several doors to your left as you walk down the corridor. A bunch of military zombies followed me in and I was able to take care of them with the weapon I had. Inside I picked up an AKS-74U and a PDW, both with ammo, and probably a bunch of other stuff I don't remember. I do distinctly remember climbing up one of those crane towers that was nearby on the harbor and thinking "wow, I can't believe I never knew that place was in Elektro before". I left Elektro and logged out. When I logged back in to that server (which I starred in DayZ Commander) a week or two later, the server was completely different. Different name and description, and I spawned with no gear on the coast. Which is fine. However, I can't find those barracks in Elektro. On this private server or ANY server, private or public. And looking on the DayZ DB map, there are no barracks in Elektro. So WTF happened? Was it a hack? Was I even in Elektro? I'm still fairly new to DayZ but I'm not crazy. I had just spawned so wherever it was it had to be near the coast. I am so confused, I feel like I dreamed it but it totally happened I swear.

    Server questions

Well the loot I lost on the one public server is definitely gone, but when I switched to a different server and picked up a few things, when I relogged into that server I still had the stuff so it must have been that one glitchy server. I guess the only reason that I like public servers is that I can pick and chose ones that actually have people playing. Some of the private servers I play on quite often have almost no one playing when I want to play which sort of defeats the purpose of playing at all. So I'm trying to find reliable public servers. I'll have to keep testing them to see which ones work and which don't. I think then that it must be a server problem and not my game. My point being with the 3rd person not working is just that even that is a reason for me not to play on that particular server, so I am starting to feel restricted in the servers I can play on. Some are glitched and don't save loot, others don't have working 3rd person, and some I can't get into at all. Maybe I should retract my previous statement and only play private servers, at least I know they work. What I'm afraid of the most is having loot on a public server, logging into a new one and then it deleting my inventory. I can't know which work and which don't without logging into them but then I might lose everything, as has already happened.

These stories are all hilarious. I broke my leg jumping a fence the other day, not really a story but definitely a noob move as I know that can happen pretty frequently. Of course it was because I was being chased by zombies in the dark, who all did the smart thing and ran around the fence instead of jump over it and then bashed my brains in as I was trying to crawl away (no morphine!). I actually crawled for a good distance before they got me, for some reason I thought it was possible to survive a broken leg with 6 zombies on me but alas, I was proven wrong.

    Server questions

I did try other servers too but apparently logging back in losing the gear on that one server unfortunately translated to all of the others because I still had no gear. I guess it's that one server but now I'm nervous playing on any public server because what if I spend hours playing and it happens on a different one too? I understand that dying and losing my gear is going to happen, I'm not attached to it, but putting in all that time just for a server glitch to wipe out my hard work is a bit frustrating. I should have clarified, when I say the 3rd person wasn't working I mean to say that when I press Enter the screen rooms out to the 3rd person perspective but the actual character model isn't physically there. Which makes it pointless.

    Server questions

I'm pretty new to DayZ and have been playing essentially "multiple" characters on various private servers but I would like to have a character on public servers too, but here's the problem... It seems like half the time I try to join a server I can't because I get a message saying something like "an error has occurred, please try again later". These servers for me are just jacked, I can never ever join them. Then last night I joined a public server that I spent hours on, logged out, came back in later and while my location was saved all my gear was gone. I have tried that server multiple times and it's the same, if I pick anything up on that server when I log back in I get reset to default spawn gear. Today I joined another public server whose 3rd person didn't work, it was all funky. So long story short, here's the question. Is my DayZ messed up? Should I reinstall it? And if I do that, will I lose anything? If I can't play on public servers so be it but I'd prefer not to lose what I have on the private servers.

I had a good noob experience last night on the roof of a factory overlooking Elektro. I had no weapons and was wondering what the crap to do next, run into Elektro with no weapons (suicide) or risk dying of starvation in the woods (also suicide). Suddenly I hear a voice behind me and there stands a guy all kitted up, he says "don't worry I won't kill you, you have nothing useful for me anyway". Then he drops me an eppie pen, bandages and blood bags and goes down the ladder. I took offense to the suggestion that I wasn't "useful" to him so I decided not to take his presents. Then I fell off the roof trying to get down the ladder and died.

    Gear across servers?

What is the advantage to playing a private server over public? Doesn't playing a single private server basically mean that you are locked into playing that server, since gear can't be carried over?
