Cigarettes to calm down ?
serastheslayer replied to sleepo_o@hotmail.de's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the idea of the adult themes entered into the game, and I reiterate ROLEPLAY. But I honestly don't see how this or having a female character should be controversial. -
I'd love this to death. I won't play Minecraft multiplayer anymore evaluate I get a book mod and so I jot down character experiences in it. For Day Z? Amazing. I can imagine sitting by a campfire jotting down the day's experiences before day time. Or even a player being killed mid sentence, which would be eerie.

Cigarettes to calm down ?

I can agree with both sides. I don really care as long as its implemented -
Is it possible to change the menu look? It's a little thing, but it'd be cool to have a day z themed gear menu, pause menu and other etcetera

Cigarettes to calm down ?
serastheslayer replied to sleepo_o@hotmail.de's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ha, I actually quite like the idea of bonding by letting a survivor bum a cig off of you. Just another one of those little things in the game, and I'm all for extra survivor interaction. -
I get life isn't fair, but the game doesn't need to be THAT realistic. If the game got to that amount of realism, it'd have to be realistic in other places too, and it wouldn't be fun anymore.

Solution to the bandit Identification problem.
serastheslayer replied to bowlin12's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Im gonna be honest, I love this idea. I like the PMC skin, but it means nothing if everyone has it. -
The point is that it isn't fair to player who play as females.

Cigarettes to calm down ?
serastheslayer replied to sleepo_o@hotmail.de's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree, this thread doesn't need to be as controversial as its being made out to be. I personally think its a good idea, and it'd nice to implement it so that you didn't need it, but it's useful. And, like I've said before, role play value. I think the biggest pro should be that it steadies your aim a bit, at the obvious cost of stealth and such, and can be used as cheap bait. That way no one is forced to use it, so no one can complain, but it becomes useful. -
I get the logic behind it, but no. It's not a guarantee that any man will be stronger than a woman or vice versa. I know several girls that could beat me up, actually. But it's not that it'd be kind of sexist. It's that the game doesn't need to be THAT realistic, and it's unfair to female players. I'd imagine we wouldn't have any if that happened. I'd keep the genders equal.

Cigarettes to calm down ?

Well, for some people there's roleplay value in it, too. I'd role play a lot of I weren't fighting for my life, and I imagine my character would need something to unwind and keep calm. I think it'd be nice to throw it and have it bait zombies like flares, but thrown in grass or something, it'd be less visible than a flare. Stealthier. Having it recover health is a good idea though, sorta like cheap painkillers, something to hold you until you can get actual medical help. -
Cigarettes to calm down ?
serastheslayer replied to sleepo_o@hotmail.de's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's not a horrible idea, in fact I could see it being used if I played with a friend like Ir strobes, letting us know where the other is. However, it's not very practical, and as people have pointed out, no one will want it if the pros outweigh the cons. It needs to have something better than nerve recovery. Say you can use it to, I don't know, light fires or somethin at the cost of losing th cigarette, or perhaps tossing it and using it to bait zombies. -
Ability to 'Walk like a Zombie'
serastheslayer replied to sandwich (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think it'd get you shot at more often than not, but I like the idea. -
So I haven't played the game much yet due to technical difficulties, but two things struck me a little bit ago. What if we had designated merchants or a bartering system in the game? I know this can be role played simply, but I'm talking a legitamate trading system. Perhaps merchants spawn with a few more goods and better items and go around collecting items to trade with other players. The merchants get more supplies and possible protection from friendly survivors in exchange for food and supplies, and bandits have a juicy, albeit difficult if guarded, target. Little bit like merchants in Fallout. Maybe we could set it up on an AI and have marines or something be guarding it, or set it with a convoy and you have an option to flag it down if you're on an open road. On that note, what if we went further into characters in the game, and allowed characters to have 'occupations'. Occupations wouldn't change your spawn loadout, but would allow you to do certain things better. I'm not really sure how it'd work, but I'm sure someone else smarter than me could figure it out. My last suggestion is after lives for killed characters. This could go one of two ways. The first is that every killed character will reanimate, a la Night Of The Living Dead. This would become interesting when you're best friend dies and you have to put him down twice. Or even if you can get infected and stay with your group but will eventually turn. I think the developers are already doing something like that though. The second way I see it happening is taking control of your character post-combo fixation for a short time after death. Got killed by a traitor or bandit nearby? You get 30 seconds or so to ruin his day. That's about all I can think of, and I'm not sure if someone else has thought of this or not, but just some suggestions.

Short After-Life and Bartering
serastheslayer replied to serastheslayer's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think a player controlled afterlife isn't really a good idea, but I do like the idea of dead characters becoming zombies. Don't know why, though. As for merchants, I guess if you do it right you can already trade items with the current backpack system and all, right? -

Whyso? -
I think the way the gameplay is now is fine. It's a realistic apocalypse. Now, I can agree on getting better loot off of zombies, but I don't think arming everyone better is a good idea. The more gunfire and straight-up action is going on, the less tense and scary the game is. When you're in a town and there's gunfire and action going on everywhere, hearing a snarling zombie isn't that scary. But when it's all or mostly quite except for your footsteps, and you're looking around tensely, knowing full-well what the quiet means, and then hearing a snarling zombie? Terrifying. Even with just one infected. I actually think it'd be better to increase the chance of good loot in the cities, but up the amount of zombies too, MAYBE. I haven't played a lot yet, but I know the rules for a good horror game. It's not a bad idea, but I like the game being a realistic simulator like it is.

Maybe. I'm mixed on it, but I think it's fine as it is. -
Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed
serastheslayer replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I for one am quite glad they're removing the bandit skins for several reasons. First off, realism. For the most part, unless you're running in a gang or something, I really doubt people will tell right off the bat that you're a bandit or someone with slightly or drastically malicious intentions. This is also good because now if there are actions you take that aren't necessarily evil, i.e: mercy killing a teammate, you won't be screwed for it now. Second, this stops prejudice to an extent. Yes, you should be worried about other players as it is and all, but if you really are that worried, sneak around, go solo, have a friend, etc. I'm glad that now players make an even bigger decision when bringing along a new friend that they don't really know with them. This new friend could be your best buddy, willing to sacrifice for you, or just a traitor or someone tagging along until the shit hits the fan, when he'll promptly scavenge your body or just run off. Either way, I'm glad that they're doing this, and I'll be happy if Rey start adding some new skins as well, and a possible class system, maybe? -
So sometime soon me and my friend plan to buy the full game and OA to play the Day Z mod, but we'd like to know if you can set up personal Day Z servers like you can with regular multiplayer. We have some other questions, too.

Server and other questions
serastheslayer replied to serastheslayer's topic in New Player Discussion
So how good are the servers for player experience then? As much as I don't want to sound like a wuss, I don't want to deal with Bandits.
