I don't really think you need a dvd drive. Either install O/S through USB or just use the disk drive of an older computer. Who uses disks these days other than for O/S installation? He may just have an old HDD from a previous computer. If not, i'd say just wait until a sale comes around because 120 gb can last quite awhile unless he hoards movies or downloads every game he doesn't play anymore.

Just remember some older gen parts are practically the same as the newer gen ones even in regards to price such as the i5-4670k being basically the same as the i5-3570k so it's fine to get the 4670k. Prices in motherboards from a z87 (4th gen processors) and a z77 (3rd gen) may arise but shouldn't be that different. Only real difference in my opinion would be the gpu. Look at some benchmark testings/reviews to see price vs. performance. Most benchmark tests use battlefield 4 and such as standards to test fps. Most games aren't going to be as gpu intensive as battlefield. GPUs from 2 years ago can still get over 60 fps on mmos and other fps.

Depends on your price range for a headset. Tomshardware has reviews on headsets of various price ranges. I suggest you check it out. With the whole price vs. performance issue, it all depends on what you plan on doing with this computer. Is it purely for gaming or is it for slightly more intensive things such as streaming/recording (also keep in mind of your net speeds and if you have bandwidth usage limits) or graphics design? If it's only for gaming and casual streaming/recording, I would recommend getting last gens parts at a cheaper price. My friend has a computer that's two years old and works great still as the parts that come out newly are extremely overspeced for what is necessary unless you plan to stream, record, photoshop and game all at the same time :D.

Guy probably doesn't have his battery installed! lol jk. My friend has windows 8.1 and can play fine except for the fact that his mouse cursor visual gets stuck if he tries to play on full screen.

I'll keep it short. You tend to slightly overpay by buying the newer gen parts as with all things and the newer gen parts will last for many years to come; however, the previous gen parts will have roughly the same longevity. Also, with the headset, many people seem to do fine with it but most of my friends who get that brand end up having retarded white noise or other issues. There are better headsets for the same price. I personally would NEVER get a steel series. (It also looks dumb). P.S. are these prices x-mas sale prices?

I think you mean "morale" rather than "moral." Anyways, I agree with the opinions rejecting the idea above. Nice idea, but not everyone needs companionship to stay sane (especially in a zombie apocalypse where murder happens frequently).

I was just curious if not knowing your blood type unless you find a test kit is going to be a permanent feature to the game or if there was possibility to having it known on spawn. I understand the reasoning behind not knowing your blood type as there are a good amount of people that do not know their blood type; however, many countries, such as the one I was born in, give information like that at birth on a document or card. You also get it known from donating blood, hospital visits, doing a self test, etc. Is there a possibility that some characters will have their blood type unknown on spawn and others could have it known? This could throw in team play for compatible fresh spawns to group or to trick bandits into killing themselves if they don't have a test kit by giving them false information on your blood type.

That's why I added the comment about allowing others to falsify your blood type to blood bandits. It would still require them to have a test kit unless they want to gamble; however, if they are one of the lucky individuals to spawn with knowledge of their blood type, they would only require one test kit. The same applies to just friends wanting to blood each other. I feel like finding multiple test kits is a bit of a long task with the way loot spawning is at the moment. I've only found one test kit with about 14 hours of play time according to steam. I may just be unlucky, but I don't know. Yeah, I've noticed not everyone knows their blood, hence I suggested having a percentage of spawns having unknown blood types and others having the knowledge. I'm sure there are some real life statistics that showcase what percent of people know their blood type. An issue that may arise with this suggestion is that people may try to kill themselves until they receive a spawn with their blood type knowledge.

When my friend plays in full screen, his cursor visual is stuck in the middle of the screen, but he can still click the options if he just clicks randomly to determine where his pointer actually is. When playing in windowed mode, the cursor visual moves just fine. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? He runs steam as an admin, has the newest version of Windows 8, and uses an AMD 290 GPU.

Whenever I right click an item such as food, water or bandages, the option only appears for a split second and stays in the background unclickable. Is there a fix to this? Some people said to double tap Tab, but it did nothing for me.

Okay, well OP here. I fixed my problem awhile back, but seeing how other people may be having this issue, I'll post my fix. The issue I had was that I had moved the addon files from my Arma 2 folder to my OA @DayZ addons folder so the game was running off a combination of the Arma 2 and OA interface. Just make sure your @DayZ addons folder only has only DayZ files and create a seperate addon folder outside of @DayZ and put the other addon files there.
