  1. Here's hoping you can fix it rocket! Direct Comms works fine in other servers (non-DayZ), so it doesn't seem to be an ArmA 2 problem.

Direct Communication not working at all...

Nothing to do with binds - It works fine for me in other servers, so unsure why it refuses to work with DayZ. Was working before one of the v1.4.x updates.

    The Shakes

Yeah, the only way to get rid of them is with painkillers. Check houses, stores, and hospitals (mainly the latter). They are the places that I usually find them. Always keep a couple boxes reserve in your backpack. Very annoying when trying to aim, so it's crucial to have backups.

    Intermittent FPS issue

I'm still having this issue as of v1.5.2. Pretty sure it's to do with that debug thing as you mentioned Rocket, as normal ArmA 2 servers are fine and it's not looking at any particularly intensive area that triggers it, as I still still for a number of minutes looking side to side in the same place and it would only chug every 30 - 60 seconds for about 10seconds. The rest of the time it was smooth as butter as it is in vanilla servers. I'd be happy to join a private server with no debug to test this for you Rocket, hit me up with a PM/Email - I have teamspeak. Cheers.
  5. I just tried to join US3 and US4 servers and realised they are running a different version of ArmA 2. Instead of v1.60, it says v1.60.92000. My ArmA 2 (like many of you) is purchased through Steam, so it's up-to-date. Anyone know what this is about? Two of the seemingly best servers can't be joined, haha. There are players in them however, so I'm confused as to why my version would differ? Anyone else experience this and know what the cause is?
  6. Just a heads up for everyone out there (correct me if this isn't the proper way of doing so) playing DayZ on the Steam version of CO; I tried to join a couple of standard servers and it didn't like the DayZ files coming up. You have to remove the '-mod=@dayz' from launch options to be able to play, it seems. Is there actually any alternative to this? If not, hopefulyl this helps some people. Cheers. EDIT: After some testing it appears that not all servers will forbid you from joining when the DayZ launch parameters are in place. However, for those servers that won't allow you to join, the above is still the solution.
  7. I like third person for roaming and looting and general game play, but always go first person when I need to use my firearm. I don't like crosshairs however, and being able to see player names. I'm not sure if it's server side, but I remember when the OZ one was up, crosshairs was disabled, meaning you couldn't scan the horizon waiting for names to pop up. Made it a little harder to communicate (was fine when Direct Comms was working) but it was much more realistic. It also meant rookie PvP'ers had to go into first person to aim, thus not giving anyone an advantage.
  8. Can anybody give us a rundown of each server and its corresponding time zone so we know what the time will be in-game? Having no server in your region makes it difficult to predict what time it will be in game, thus meaning we may never see the light of day given the time difference. Server locations with their timezones/current times would be very much appreciated. Cheers.

    DayZ Update 1.5

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but Direct Comms still doesn't work, nor does the esc after death (still have to alt+f4). Just a heads up.

    DayZ screenshot competition

Here's one I took when crawling out of a town infested with Walkers. Creepy and surreal - had some close calls but just kept low and got out alive. Sitting at the campfire enjoying some peace and quiet:

    Problems with the Morality System

I agree with Tajin that it shouldn't be permanent. Particularly because people who are legitimately friendly (I know of many) have somehow been unfairly given the uniform so everyone just shoots them on site. I'm also part of this group that has been labelled a bandit for self defense.

How to see player names ingame?

I think Cuel suggestion would be good if they could get that working. Alternatively (as it is still cool to be able to hide from someone as they walk past two meters away in the pitch black) is to have a group system, so when you meet someone for the first time, you have to introduce yourself, but afterwards you can join each others group which then shows player tags. Though this is probably harder to implement than the 30 - 50 meter tag visibility above, and might end up breaking a lot of game mechanics if attempted (grouping could cause all sorts of debug and server issues). My other alternative would be the option to let players customize a consistent uniform (so it doesn't change each login) that individualizes everyone, thus making it easier to distinguish individuals via their physical appearance. I know we can already do so with player faces, but it's still difficult to determine who's who with the current system.

    A plea for more servers!

Thanks for the reply Jonnerz - appreciate the hosting! That's incrdible that it burns 6TB of data a month!!! I'm sure if you can get one or preferably two Aus/NZ servers up and running, you will have a lot of Oceanic players very interested. Cheers again for stepping up and hosting this fantastic (albeit bandwidth hungry!) mod for everyone to enjoy.

    Intermittent FPS issue

I'm also getting this issue. It only seems to be present since the morality update. I missed a couple of updates, but I think the last version I played (v1.4.11) didn't give me these performance drops. I also don't get them on singleplayer and vanilla ArmA 2 servers.

    Problems with the Morality System

Yeah, I killed one player who wouldn't respond to my questions on whether he was friendly or not (later was told Direct Comms isn't working) and instantly become a bandit. Killed someone else and lost like 2000 morality. Seems I lose that much whenever I kill someone else regardless of the fact that they may shoot first and whatnot. Not Very fair, haha.

    DayZ Update 1.4.23

Just want to reinforce the non-functioning Direct Comms issue. A lot of innocent people are dying because you can't communicate whether you're friendly or not, so people get trigger happy (rightfully so). Requesting Chracter Data is still taking a long, long time, and I think I was actually killed while waiting for it to load (EDIT: I'm actually being 'killed by friendly fire' each time I try to respawn, therefore it seems like a server or game bug is killing me, not other players). Also, I killed one person and my humanity dropped for 2500 to 7, hahaha. Surely that's not right? Forgiveable because this is in Alpha, but just bringing this to the devs attention.
  17. I'm unsure whether this has been asked or not (and haven't been able to test it as the server I usually join is constantly full as of late); Does your morality reset when you die/respawn? If it does, it really seems like quite a high starting morality (+2500), as bandits will need to kill a lot of players before their morality drops enough to actually become said bandit. What's the story on this?

    Weapons Feedback and Discussion

STANAG rounds are something that I find a little under powered to be honest. They seem to take a couple of shots like that of the AKM. Realistically, I would have thought an M4A1 for example, would drop walkers one shot. I guess it reinforces the aiming for the head though, so I don't necessarily think weapon balance should change.

Gamespy had issues the other day, so chances are they might be now (I haven't played DayZ in a couple of days because I can't get into the OZ server - always full, so can't tell you what the situation is). This means that no servers will show up in the browser. You can however connect via 'Remote' to that servers IP still. Another thing to check is that; if you have used the remote option, the 'Address' down the bottom left of your browser will still only show remote servers - clicking it a few times will get you back to 'Internet' and if GameSpy is working correctly, your server list should come back up.
  20. So obviously there has been a lot of interest in this mod, probably more than was realistically expected by the dev team. My question is (open for everyone, not just devs); will we be seeing more and more servers opening up over the next few days, as well as stronger reliability? I speak for the OZ servers mainly when I say, there has been numerous server crashes and downtime, as well as constant full slots. I'm by all means not whinging about this, as it's great to see such strong interest in the mod, but are there immediate plans to compensate for this influx of players? Cheers for the excellent work on the mod itself by the way. It's amazing and the open world, free will, post apocalyptic is something I have always wanted done and done well. The team behind DayZ; you have done very well indeed.

    Unexpected player count?

Cheers for the reply gobbo. I don't mean to sound like an ungrateful brat - you guys are doing an awesome job and no doubt we all appreciate it (as well as appreciate the server hosts). Thanks!
  22. Don't abuse the gamma video settings - that's the rookie method of night survival. As mentioned, you're only really ruining the atmosphere and challenge of the mod for yourself if you use maps online and do the gamma thing I just mentioned. Anyway contribution (sorry if some has been covered): - Try to crouch run when near towns/villages even if you can't see any walkers. - Stay off the roads themselves and run beside them (extremely loud). - You can generally crawl within ten metres of walkers without them noticing (not sure if flashlight/chemlight/flares affect this). Try not to get too close, but this is a great option for looting infested towns. - When you're in a lootable building, crouch walk only. The walkers will hear you otherwise. - Do NOT swim at any cost!! Chances are you will loose your backpack and all the items in it (there are known methods for tryign to retrieve the items, but don't risk it at all). - I'm not 100% on this, but I think you can only create one fireplace at a time, so remove your old one before moving on. - Reinforcing the 'run into buildings when being chased' suggestion. It does indeed slow walkers down. - Remember, walkers can climb ladders, so you aren't safe if you're up some high tower with only a ladder. - Don't position yourself right next to walls when walkers are alerted to you; they can attack through most of them. -Often if you are prone and get attacked by a walker, it will knock you uncounscious. Try to be standing if you have to face them and may take damage in the process. -When obtaining a new backpack, drop your old one first, pick up the new one, then take all the items out of your old one on the ground. This is the easiest and safest way of transferring your inventory. -Pay attention to the calibre of your weapon. The larger the rounds, generally the louder it is, thus alerting more walkers. -Tents can often be lost upon server restart (as we unfortunately found last night). Try to avoid stashing too much good gear in one for the time being until they are bug-free. There's plenty more but I hope these help some people.

    Mountain Dew?

Haha, that's quite a neat idea if it's true. Have some exclusively rare item that nobody would guess.

    Installing

With the Steam version of ArmA 2 Combined Ops, you need to do the following; 1. Download the latest files from here: http://www.mediafire.com/dayz 2. Extract the .rar files with something like winZIP or 7-ZIP (the latter is best, imo) 3. Go to your directory of ArmA 2 OA: /Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead/ 4. Within this directory/folder, create a new folder called: @dayz 5. Within the new '@dayz' folder, create another called: AddOns (/@dayz/AddOns/) 6. Take the extracted .pbo files from step 2 (not their corresponding folders) and place them ALL within the newly created 'AddOns' folder. 7. Right click on ArmA 2 OA in steam and go to 'Properties' then 'Launch Options' and within the parameter type: -mod=@dayz 8. Launch the game using Combined Ops launch method (at the bottom of the launch box that appears when you launch ArmA 2 OA, or right click and select it), and you're good to go. NOTES: When updating your game files, check the changelog as it mentions the .rar that you need to download (usually this is the dayz_code file only). You shouldn't generally need to re-download the entire bunch. Then just replace the older files (according to the changelog) in your 'AddOns' folder with the newly updated ones (Copy and Replace with Windows 7 when prompted). Also, when installing ArmA 2 and OA through Steam for the first time, apparently it pays to download and launch ArmA 2 first before doing the same for OA (somethign to do with directory creation). I'm not sure if this really matters or not, so someone else will have to confirm this, though I have seperate Steam directories for 'arma 2' and 'arma 2 operation arrowhead' and have had no issues with DayZ. Your /Program Files/ directory will be under a drive name as well (if your using 64bit OS, it will be /Program Files(x86)/Steam/...) - it could be C:/, D:/, etc, depending on what your main drive is for your OS unless you have specified otherwise (usually this is C:/ drive); find your drive through 'My Computer'. Finally, before going into a server, you can check that your game recognizes DayZ by looking at the top right of the main menu (should say 'arma 2' and then '@dayz' under it. You can also check in the 'Expansions' option on the main menu screen (look again for '@dayz'). This guide is for people who aren't familiar with their Steam directory, so I apologize for the excessive detail. It also only applies to the Steam version. If anyone else with Steam had installed it a different way (some peoples ArmaA 2 OA directories may be different for whatever reason) please feel free to add to this. Hope this helps.

    A Personal Observation

I admit that I'm guilty for whinging about PvP when I get shot from somewhere I couldn't even see and lose all my awesome gear. Though I think like most people, it's just a vocal response in frustration for what just took place. The idea behind survival of the fittest and survival in general that the mod portrays is actually amazing and I really wouldn't change I thing - thus meaning that PvP should definitely stay. I do disagree with the pointless murdering of newcomers at the coast who have nothing but starter gear though. It just seems like a pointless endeavour. However, the airfield where a lot of PvP'ing occurs is otherwise understandable as the place is loaded with great gear (in fact, the airfield is the only place I have ever been killed by another player - three times now... I have to stop going there at night... Haha).
