I think its important to note in this discussion that there are multiple ways a game like DayZ can be played. There is a large PvP community surrounding DayZ used to playing, shoot first, get the loot, and thats fine. but thats only one way to play. There is also a large group (which id consider myself a part of) looking for a more role playing experience. Roleplaying your character, survivalists trying to stay alive in Chernarus. Meeting other players on the road also trying ot make their way in the world. Getting into fights with some for resources but hooking up with others for safety just as much. Setting up groups banding together, running into a the charitable stranger who is willing to give you that blood bag you need, or having someone randomly save you by poping the zombie hot on your tail because its what you'd do if it were you in real life. (depending on the character you play. Its more about the motive than the action!) It can actually be fun to die at the hands of a roleplaying bandit. If they make it an interesting interaction, it sucks less that you died because the situation was played out so interestingly and was so much fun in the midst of it. Thats why I joined the DayZRP server but in its current state, I think it does something abit different. The server prevents KoS, forcing declaration of intent before killing. You need to declare before you shoot there which does stop alot of the unknown deaths by random strangers. But theres still a strong PvP focused player base (less hackers thankfully!!) and less roleplaying than some would prefer. Personally I agree with the theJCBand in his original post. I think KoS actually adds to the experience increasing your fear factor. putting rules on KoS is a good intent but I think the roleplayers are often looking for something different. What we are hoping for is a server which focuses on actual roleplaying of characters. Where banditry is less appealing (though how to make it so, I dont know if the mechanics exist in the game. its likely to rely more on the policing of player access to discourage non RPers from joining) perhaps requiring proper bios to be posted before being given access, and enforcing a warning rule for people who kill without RP motivation.. If DayZ were to happen to the world now, yes youd have bandits, and youd have heros. The majority of people would just be trying to survive. And thankfully I think most people would at least hesitate at taking up a life of murder in order to survive. In DayZ its just too easy, the benefits are too tasty to discourage that like in RL. In RL i think most people would regret PvP abit more and would definately be more aware of the risk. Youd be more inclined to try and find blood bags and help than just suicide and start again :P Just my 2 cents, id LOVE to see the roleplaying community come together in DayZ because damn its a great platform for apocalyptic RP!!!
