Are you sure all your updates were the beta's and NOT the RC's? -
Server list has become a complete cluster-f**k

What you just said simply isn't true. At no point has any of the Day Z staff told us to use a beta version that did not have BattlEye support. -

Honestly, I would stop using Six Launcher. The updates are very easy to manually install (just a simple exe). -
Looking For Server Host
urbanfox replied to rmnesbitt@gmail.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
That hits the nail on the head. I was interested in HFB because they were the cheapest around and I am sorely sorry I chose them. Dumped them for my own dedicated server and glad I did. -

Taking away even more access to our servers?
urbanfox replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Get a dedicated server, don't deal with it. People also seem to think that HFB is an actual hosting company with a data center(s). They are actually 2 or 3 guys who built a website and resell servers they rent from real hosting companies. It would be like someone here renting a server from x real hosting company, getting a website up, and reselling that server for profit. Their operation is not only too small to handle all the servers they have, but when there is an actual problem they can't deal with it, they have to get support from the actual hosting company. I'm not saying that business model can't work, but it's obviously not working for them. -

More HFB crap. I wonder when they will respond to my Paypal dispute... I also wonder why, when my server has been shut down for a while now, that today I got two "illegal changes" emails from them. How unprofessional are they???? -
http://en.wikipedia....ease_life_cycle ALPHA lol. When the Day Z standalone version rules the world, one day you will be able to tell your kids how you survived crawling over jagged rocks and contemplating the pro's and cons of putting on a different skin. Yes, they will look at you funny, but YOU will know the dangers you faced.

Did you read my previous posts in this thread? I clearly outlined things for you that would have prevented you wasting the time to write this. -
Taking away even more access to our servers?
urbanfox replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
No, I didn't. You are taking it at face value. You shouldn't. There is a reason you don't see EVERY host doing this/sending these emails out to their clients. -
Taking away even more access to our servers?

Not all hosting companies do this, so my hunch is HFB and their staff or 2 people or whatever it is now decided that the easiest way to ensure whitelisting was to restrict their clients. -
Taking away even more access to our servers?
urbanfox replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
That's a problem with the hosting company, not Day Z devs. My advice is boycott the hosting companies that do that. Either find a hosting company who doesn't treat their customers like preschoolers or get a dedicated box and run your own. -

Exploits are being patched all the time and DC'ers are just a part of the game right now. Similar to 3 minute "pass out" to deter DC'ers, other things are being worked on, I assure you. Yeah, those are picked up and yes, they are banned. I know this for a fact. The reason they are still around is the same reason scripts are still around, people find loopholes in new patches/updates. BattlEye picks up A LOT more than just scripts... BattlEye has updated something like 3-5x in the last two weeks. As for immediate action, that will never happen. Not in this game or any other. No game is hack-proof. If you have been playing that long, then you already realize that this isn't a normal game, but a military simulator, and as such has exploits and issues that are not in other games because of the way it was put together and the purpose for which it was put together. The bottom line: BattlEye IS doing its job. People are getting banned for scripts, ESP, etc. If you aren't happy with your perceived view of things, don't host/play. Not much else to say. -
It depends entirely on how many people are in the server, too. The server in my sig is the only application ran on a dedicated server on the east coast if you want to try it.

Taking away even more access to our servers?
urbanfox replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I really don't think you understand that 1) this a mod 2) that mod relies on ARMA 2 3) ARMA 2 relies on BattlEye. Do you have any possible idea how many accounts have been banned as a direct result of Day Z cheating? BattlEye IS doing its job, hackers just keep buying new copies of the game and deconstructing the newest patch/update. It's an inevitable cycle. I guarentee that the REAL problems with hackers/cheaters/etc are NOT solvable by you or any logs you have. Let BattlEye do its job. -
Would this server run dayz?
urbanfox replied to chrispowdrill@yahoo.co.uk's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Focusing just on the hardware specs, no. That server from HP uses a much older generation Xeon processor that is going to chug hard with Day Z and there is simply not enough ram either. Honestly, the price of that server + monthly colocation fees are going to be close if not the same or more for what you would pay to rent a Sandy or Ivy Bridge Xeon dedicated server. -

This is how I interpreted it: The reason they (supposedly) said that was because people were using their admin powers to things against Day Z rules. For example, let's say US999 server (hypothetical) is hosted by x hosting company and is leased to John Smith (fictional name). John Smith decides that he wants to lock/password his server to farm for loot with his friends. Since this is against the rules, US999 could possibly blacklisted. This doesn't affect John Smith because he just leases the server. This affects x hosting company, though, because if they continue to get blacklisted servers and/or let their clients go against Day Z rules then Day Z staff could blacklist the entire company, effectively shutting them down and hurting their business. Now if someone locks/passwords their server or makes a change to the config that violates Day Z rules, x host installs a script that automatically shuts the server down and emails the client warning them not to do it again etc. So, John Smith finds another way to go around the rules or do things a Day Z admin shouldn't. X host then decides to lay the hammer down and restrict ALL their servers, regardless of whether the admin was doing the right thing or not. That's harsh and over the top. Now, I don't run run a hosting company, but there ARE legitimate reasons why an admin would need to lock their server. For example, right before restarts. Using Day Z server tools, I have it set up that the server automatically locks 10 minutes before a restart, as well as gives a warning to all players that the server is restarting in 10, 5 and 1 minute messages. < valid example server can be locked. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The bottom line in my humble opinion is that the hosts who impose strong restrictions on their clients are trying to do the least amount of work as possible. Why? Because it's easier to be a hosting company when you take away pretty much all the access to your clients server. Instead, why not do this: Give them full access. Add BEC/restart scripts to the client's console so their server can be as professional as possible. If someone violates a Day Z rule, don't just send them an automatic message. Send them a personalized message telling them they went against y rule, here are the list of rules they MUST follow, and that this is a warning. A second violation results in suspension of the account for a certain amount of days and the third violation results in a cancellation of their account. To me, that would be excellent service. It would allow those who follow the rules and do the right thing to continue to admin their server to the best of their abilities and it would weed out those who won't follow the rules. Of course this would add a lot more work for the host, but if you can't provide a service the way things should be, why are you in the business? Just my worthless two cents. -
Taking away even more access to our servers?
urbanfox replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
What the people in thread are complaining about (as it appears to me) is the restrictions that managed Day Z hosting companies are putting on them (like HFB). -
Look at your script detection text file and just find the line. So, hack #37 would be line 37.

Proposal to Investigate any server which is locked for > 60 minutes in any 24-hour period

With most managed Day Z server instances (ones you get through a hosting company) I'd imagine it is. -

Want to host a DayZ Server? Read in here.
urbanfox replied to Antipop (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You're going to at least need a valid IP address that you will use the computer on. It's going to take a business line, and unfortunately T1 doesn't even come close to cutting it. I believe the minimum now is 100/100. His best bet IMO would be to build a 1U-4U server and get it colocated, then submit a request for whitelisting. -
Taking away even more access to our servers?
urbanfox replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
How often are things being taken away? You need to realize something: It's between YOU and YOUR HOST. Your host requests whitelist access, then they sell the admin rights of that to you. Because of people abusing that, your host decides to restrict things more and more so they aren't blacklisted. Here's the best part though: cut out the middle man and you don't have to deal with that stuff. I cannot reiterate enough how your posts are a direct result of your interactions with your host company. How do I know this? Because I used to be in your shoes! I had a managed Day Z server and due to all the BS and problems I encountered (on the host's fault;not the Dev's), I jumped shit and got my own server/hosting account with Day Z directly. Things are so, so much better now. If you have problems, PLEASE realize it's with your host. -

I don't feel that way, especially with support tickets and IRC. Also, there aren't a "bunch" of rules. There are a few, and they are very, very easy to follow. It works pretty well, actually. Can you stop people from exploiting every BattlEye update or buying new copies of the game once they are banned? No. Also, can you name an anti-cheat engine that works 100%? I doubt it. Your opinion; don't play it then? I think you are greatly exaggerating things... There are still a lot of helpful people in IRC, but you have to realize not everyone is going to have an answer for everything. Honestly, how about we try this: What SPECIFIC complaints do you have that are pertinent to your unique experience hosting? -
How to make a server day time all the time
urbanfox replied to todge2k (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Day Z has a purposeful day/night cycle, so no. Nothing else to really say.
