Suggestions: Cannabalism, Reanimation, Inclement Weather, Player Settlements
pilot posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A concept I first saw in Book of Eli (I am aware that it is a real occurrence as well): Cannibalism: Give us the option to gut recently killed players and collect "Sweet Steaks" from the corpse, and anytime we eat too much of these Sweet Steaks we get the shakes that stay for an extended period of time (As well as a huge hit to your humanity). It gives desperate players an option of becoming truly monstrous, and having this option would have saved my life once when I got truly desperate. Now a classic concept that sadly has not been touched on in most games. Reanimation: When a player dies from a zombie attack his corpse gets back up, creating an interesting dilemma for loot hunters. Do I shoot it and collect the former player's gear and possibly risk attracting a horde or bandits, or do I let it pass? Now a concept I have seen a few veteran members make fun of, so I will do my best to defend it. Inclement Weather: STALKER Call of Pripyat did this very well, and is a perfect proof of concept that waiting out a storm can be exciting in its own sense ( ) Inclement Weather would force players to bump elbows looking for shelter, and make my "Mountain Man" playstyle extremely difficult to maintain. It comes down to much more than just sitting around waiting for a storm to pass.A concept that I know will be an unpopular suggestion, but this would not be what you will think at first. Player maintained settlements: NOW BEFORE YOU SAY ANYTHING ABOUT PVP, its not what you think, this is not a change to the existing PVP mechanics, but rather a zombie spawn reaction to a high number of players in a zone (Like 20 players in the same 100 square meter area.) Instead of having zombies spawn normally if this group was in a spawn zone like a city, the zombies would no longer spawn in the city after the players had cleared it, they would spawn just outside of the city and in higher numbers. This would allow a player maintained "safe zone" that was only safe if everyone co-operated to ensure it stayed safe. For instance, if someone gets into a disagreement with another player in the "SZ" and some idiot fires a weapon, all the zombies that were shambling around just outside of the city flood back in. Everyone would have to work together to clear it again. This is no "Weapons locked hand holding party" this is just what World War Z would call a "Blue Zone" where survivors banded together and reclaimed some real estate. With these zones set up things like markets would naturally appear again, and we would see the advent of a player created currency system. And the most important part? All it would take is one dumbass to screw it up. Sorry for posting this twice, forgot there was a suggestions subforum, but I am enjoying seeing other people input in general. -
So I lost my 23 days alive character to a server error (He was a mountain man scraping buy on pond scum and goat meat) and started fresh, found myself some decent gear in elektro and decide to poke around a bit more, as it had been so long since I dared visiting elektro during the day. After a bit of poking about me and a buddy are in elektro at the same time and I decide to have a bit of fun by going to the top of the office building roof, and I immediately spot someone in the general store. As I lower my Lee Enfield to try to communicate, he fires his winchester. He's a bad shot. Doesn't even come close, so I raise my enfield back up and fire. Hits him right between the eyes and he's dead. I check my top right [bandits killed: 1] and I knew I had got him, but then a male and a female survivor turn onto the street, and I lower my enfield again, walk to the side of the roof and salute. I then yell through direct "I could have killed you! But I'm friendly! See? Gun down and saluting!" to which I get the reply of "that doesn't mean anything!" and two Winchester slugs to the chest. I was a little confused as to why they would even bother replying with anything other than bullets if they were going to dismiss every Northern Friendly (as I call it, because everyone I've met up north does these actions) action as nothing. But as luck would have it I spawn at elektro. My buddy kills the male player who killed me and the female killed him while I was making my way. I loot my friends corpse and take his winchester and head back up to my perch to see if I can find the woman who killed my friend and acted as accomplice in my own demise. And she is climbing up the elektro hospital, I line up a shot, wait for her to notice, and right as she does... *Poof* she's gone. and my bullet hits nothing but hospital concrete. the shot attracts all the newly respawned zombies and my buddy is having trouble entering the offices with so many zombies. So I start clearing them and then *Poof* they are gone. And we both know. The Bitch ghosted. Sure enough, right on the lower level from where I was lined up she was lying there. My buddy runs up and axes her a question. It sends her head rolling. But then his head opens like a ripe melon, as the fellow he had killed earlier had apparently made his way back on another server and set up right behind me as he came in. I wish I could tell you that my sportsmanship won the conflict. I wish I could tell you that my skill was enough to take down these blatant cheaters. I wish I could, but I can't. These people made me stop leaving the server anytime I felt another player near me when I was looting, these people made me realize just how ridiculous some people are. I NEVER want to be like these people. I play DayZ like its me in there now. Like I'm the one on the screen, not an avatar. If I die, I die. No matter how rare my gear is, or how spectacularly I'm outmatched, I don't have the option to pussy out and take a better spot. So thank you ghosters, for making me remember why I used to play like a sportsman. and thank you for helping me do it again. I may have less gear than you, live shorter lives than you, and be less successful than you at my in-game goals. But I am still better than you, because I can take what I dish out.

No patch this week (and next week prolly)

I like my unlimited ammo, so take your time updating rocket. Take your time. -
Antonio, you missed the moral. I say "I could have killed you" to remind people that I had the opportunity once before and didn't take it. So if I wanted you dead I would have killed you already. Your logic is flawed.

Suggestions: Cannabalism, Reanimation, Inclement Weather, Player Settlements
pilot replied to pilot's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well its a good thing that I included 4 other things that didn't come up in the searches huh? and yes I searched cannibalism but none were exactly like what I suggested, so I added it to my list of suggestions. Besides, the more people request a feature the more likely it is to be added. -

another idea I had were things like XM8 schematics, where you could find a weapon schematic and try to find parts and breakdown other weapons for the parts to get a jerry rigged XM8 -
I am a huge apocalypse-anything fan, and have watched many movies (Book of Eli, Mad Max, and to a lesser extent The Matrix) and read many books (I am Legend, which is very different from the movie, World War Z, The Zombie Survival Guide) and played many games (Fallout, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC and CoP, DayZ) about the various human reactions to such an event. And I think that a few concepts from these various mediums could be applied to DayZ very well. I understand others may disagree and that is fine, but let's get to it. @Ravenspear Cannibalism has been done in games such as Fallout 3 with out any repercussions. Its a CHOICE, no one is forced to do it. I specifically stated that they would only be re-animated if they were killed by zombies. Otherwise, you have some fair points

I cannot possibly imagine why so many players do not like you.
-
I still announce myself, but only when I have a bead on the other players head. I start with "Move and you die", and when they move I fire. If they don't we trade for a bit or sometimes team up. Just makes sure they know you could have killed them, and NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER let them walk behind you.
-
You know whats funny? That you shot someone on sight and are complaining about having to do so. If you don't like shooting people, don't do it.

Survivors of horrid accidents who ended up having to eat human flesh describe it as the sweetest meat they have ever tasted. Which made me worried when McD's was adding sugar to their patties. I thought they might be selling human flesh.

Despite my disagreements I have had with a number of TKJ's suggestions, he gets my vote because he always makes sense. Even if its not exactly what I agree with he ensures its sensible. which is hilariously backwards considering his forum name, and avatar. Two guys are trying to escape an asylum y'see? oh have you heard this one before?

Posted it there as well, thank you for bringing that up, mods are welcome to close this if they feel it is unnecessary, although I am curious what others have to say and feel it won't be discussed as much by people in the suggestions subforum.

What we can learn from a groundhog
pilot replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I play more like a moth. I see a light it in the night, I flip my NVG's on and head towards it, hoping to find the corpse of a player who made a mistake. If they are still alive I do my best to kill them by proxy, throwing smoke on them or just a few tin cans near them. Why? Because I don't like shooting people. And my way makes them piss themselves -
I would not risk it. Get rid of it.

Haven't read the OP, just replying to the title. GOOD

i persoanlly would love to see third person removed entirely
pilot replied to A.Jones's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1st person limits your situational awareness to less than real world view. 3rd person offers slightly more awareness than real world, but only slightly. Therefore I find third person to be better for realism than first, because a zombie apocalypse wouldn't suddenly cut off my peripheral vision. AND as others have stated, you are already catered. -
I have very rarely had this problem... I always announce myself once I'm lined up for a headshot. My words are almost always as follows. *Through Direct* "Hey Buddy I have a bead on your skull, move another inch and I fire. If you're friendly and need help I can patch you up, but my friend here will be watching you. If you're not friendly start running now" My buddy is usually a hundred meters off with a sniper shot ready for the other guy. He kills the runners. I do not like bandits, and so far every runner has been a bandit. Only time I've been even wounded recently was some cowboy who shot me in the face with an MP5SD mid-sentence (I was lucky he didn't have anything more powerful). I must have blown twenty rounds through his head before it donned on me to patch up (I managed to stop the bleeding at 400 and my buddy transfused me) But I never pull the trigger first. And it has served me very well. 21 days alive and counting, as well as a few survivors who know me as a perpetual friendly and have occasionally returned favors. Oh and also, get off the coast.

I'm looking for a fellow by the name of "Pumpkin Head". I handed him a set of camo clothes and an M9SD and pointed him towards Berezino as the server crashed. I'm just curious what became of him. He was a nice guy who almost pissed himself when me and my mates all started shouting at him to put his weapon down when we didn't know his intentions.

I nominate all members of Freeside Trading Co. Leadership. Just because it is a freakin cool concept that is beginning to take shape. I shall be the first of a tide of nominators I'm sure.
