OP = Original Poster. In other circles, OP can stand for "Outrageous Presumption" or "Orangutans Personified."

This is true, which is why I am unsure if it's an intentional change or not, nor do I think it's the right change for the Mosin 9130. I personally think it would be fine if its damage was reduced. These terms are definitely exclusive to the Call of Duty/Battlefield communities. Yep, definitely not widely-accepted terms used by video game communities of all different spectrums. Nope, not at all.

Because being able to sprint at Olympian speeds while carrying a hundred pounds of equipment over many kilometers is realistic. Because this same person then instantly dies because he fell 10 feet despite landing on his feet is realistic. Because being a lone survivor in an apocalyptic scenario who regularly shoots other survivors for no reason at all while showing no signs of stress or mental degradation is realistic. Because gunshot wounds from high caliber weaponry can be healed away within a few hours by eating and drinking a little more often than usual, and shattered limbs can be healed instantly by shooting up some morphine as well. Sorry, this game was never realistic, and neither is Rust. There are many gameplay mechanics in place that made the game harbor more realistic attributes than your typical shooter/survival game, but never has this game ever been remotely close to the actual reality of a zombie apocalypse. (As ridiculous as that may sound) And you know what? That's perfectly fine. Despite how vehemently some players will lash out at the prospect, sometimes gameplay has to overshadow realism and immersion, even in a game that heavily stresses the latter. When you have a civilian weapon that's as powerful and effective as the Mosin 9130 is, there really is no excuse to use many other available weapons in the game, even in instances where said weapons may excel at. In scenarios like this, play style diversity stagnates as every player worth their salt is shoehorned into using a certain overpowered weapon, which removes any reason to use different weapons once you stumble across one of the God tier weapons in the game. If this was an intentional nerf to the Mosin 9130, maybe one can argue that the nerf wasn't the best way to go about dampening the effectiveness of the weapon, and perhaps there are ways that the weapon can be nerfed without realism or immersion taking a hit. One way or another, the weapon is too powerful right now and needs to be toned down for the sake of gameplay balance.

Server hopping detracts a lot of difficulty and decision-making from the game when the best solutions to certain problems can be solved by simply hopping to a different server. Why run to Northwest Airfield when I can just server hop around low populated servers and loot Balota Airfield on each? Why spend any decent amount of time looking for a civilian weapon in a town when I'm more likely to find a superior military-grade weapon by server hopping around low populated servers while removing any risk of dying as well? Why spend time hiding from a nearby survivor when I can go "hide" on a different server entirely?

Do note that the lack of any available foregrip attachment will have a detrimental affect on your accuracy, whether shooting fully-automatic or taking more precise shots down range. Not true. Although I don't know the full extent of how certain items are affected, I know that certain optical sights (such as the PU Scope or ACOG) are cracked and inaccurate when badly damaged or ruined. I cannot confirm the validity of whether firearms are affected by an unforeseeable quality check in place.

My entire group just died... and there weren't even bandits or zombies.

My group of five got their asses kicked by Rify, the abandoned freighter north of Berezino. Ledges super hard mode. -

Whats the Burlap Sack For ? Here is the Answer !
Areos (DayZ) replied to Ozar's topic in General Discussion
If they cannot see at all and their hearing is reduced while covered with the sack, is there going to be a way to force them into moving in the right direction? Or are they going to be stumbling about blindly the whole time? -
The concept of the helicopter crash sites in the original mod was great in that it added a randomized variable to the game world that rewarded players for exploring the environment on their own accord instead of mindlessly following a map. I feel that this concept should be expanded further in a smaller form factor through randomized survivor corpses. -- When a server starts up/restarts, a good number of survivor corpses will be placed all throughout the game world. These corpses can be found in or around anywhere that loot can be normally found, such as houses in towns and cities, fire stations, military barracks, markets, so on and so forth. -- The loot you find on a corpse will be reminiscent to the environment the corpse is located in or around, and the loot will typically consist of some of the better possible items you could find in that environment. A corpse found in a small town may have a small backpack filled with canned food and water, minor equipment, additional clothing and possibly a civilian weapon; a corpse found near a military site may have a larger backpack, an assault vest, bulkier clothing, rare equipment, an ammunition box and possibly a military-grade weapon. -- Examining a survivor corpse and taking their loot into context can tell how this survivor met their ultimate fate. An emaciated corpse with empty cans of food and water probably died of starvation; a bloodied corpse with gunshot wounds to the back and a journal entry depicting an uneasy relationship with another survivor could point to a betrayal of trust. -- The "flies surrounding a corpse" sound effect from the original mod could be implemented again as a means of more easily locating a nearby survivor corpse that would otherwise be concealed by the environment. -- Not all corpses will be face down on the ground. Some can be slouched back into a chair, huddled up in a corner, leaning over a table or counter, found within vehicles, or have been torn asunder by the infected. -- These corpses will be more common than helicopter crash sites, but still relatively uncommon. You may find one of these survivor corpses in every other town, and usually one or two in each given city. These corpses will serve the same functionality of helicopter crash sites, but on a smaller form factor. These would promote the more extensive exploration of one's environment in order to find and reap the benefits of loot found on these corpses, and the more unique characteristics of each corpse and how they passed can help add an additional layer of immersion and dread to the game world. This all may sound redundant in comparison to the survivor corpses of actual players, but I feel this would better help promote the exploration of areas where players aren't as likely to explore/die within themselves.

The infected should be a much greater threat than they are now, but they'll never surpass the danger of another geared survivor.
-
Have yet to die unintentionally to falling damage. The one time I died from it was so that I could get a better spawn on the map.
-
Exactly. It adds a small yet meaningful layer of immersion to the game world, and loot distribution can be easily modified with these survivor corpses in mind. That M4A1 you found in a military barracks could instead be found on a survivor's corpse who passed away in his sleep by a severe infection he had been suffering through, as stated by a journal entry on the body and a used package of antibiotics.

Stary Sobor. Everytime I go there, something dies, whether it's another survivor or myself.

Pistol vs. Revolver, which is best?
Areos (DayZ) replied to Rōnin Rick's topic in General Discussion
That feeling when you miss your shot by a hair and can't make a follow-up shot before being blown away by the other player. Not so epic. -
I look to increase the game's immersion and improve gameplay mechanics through the suggestions I make, and many of these suggestions make the game harder while others make them easier. I am willing to share these ideas if you're interested.

I'm excited for any increase in weapon variability. I'm looking forward to brandishing myself a boomstick the next time I respawn on the coastline.

When you're new to the game, you'll want to keep a map outside of game nearby in order to determine your location in the game world. When you've played this game for months and pretty much have every nook and cranny of the map burnt into your memory, it becomes a non-issue.

Cherno has been quiet the past couple days.
Areos (DayZ) replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
The spawns in-game are all focused on the east/southeast corner of the map, so most activity tends to occur around Elektro and Berezino. When/if spawns are placed around Kamenka and Cherno, you'll see a surplus of activity there too. -
Previously indigenous only to Mount Bowel Evacuation, these bloodthirsty horrorbeasts have descended into the lower reaches of Chernarus to feed on the flesh of the living. When this harbinger of death roars towards you in the darkness of night, only then will you know pure, unmitigated fear.

Name weapons that should be in DayZ SA
Areos (DayZ) replied to Grenadier36's topic in General Discussion
Battle rifles are my favorite weapons to use in most FPS games, which is defined as any select fire or semi-automatic rifle that uses a high-caliber rifle cartridge. Many players have already suggested the FN FAL in this thread, which I agree with, but I don't think it should be as rare as it was in the original mod. It should be added to the list of military loot that can be found in fire stations, jailhouses, hangars, barracks and so on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_rifle -
So I just saw a server named "Friendly! No KOS! 24/7 day! 3PP: ON!"
Areos (DayZ) replied to NagsterTheGangster's topic in General Discussion
"The server's name indicated that killing on sight isn't allowed. For this, I shall forever holster my weapon and reach out with open arms to my fellow survivors." Said no DayZ player ever. -
Non-permadeath server option in the future?
Areos (DayZ) replied to minime1000's topic in Suggestions
Although I'm usually open to allowing players to choose how they want to play a game, there should be a basic set of rules in place for any video game that should never be forsaken, as these rules help glue the game together in terms of mechanics, immersion, balance and so on. This is especially true for multiplayer-eccentric games like DayZ. The biggest theme that allows DayZ to stick out from most other FPS games is the constant sense of danger while playing the game. There are many factors that play into why the game's atmosphere is particularly tense, and one of the core reasons is how death is permanent and unforgiving. Remove this drawback and the game becomes significantly less threatening and tense in virtually every scenario, which ruins the main appeal of the game. Not to mention the balance ramifications this would have on regular servers, where people all geared up from these no-perma-death servers can hop onto a regular server and have an unfair advantage over the players who chose to play legitimately. Let's also not forget how this would greatly reduce the longevity of the game, as gearing up is an essential part of the experience and never risking to lose this gear means stagnation will set in quickly. -
Even in its early stages of development, the standalone version feels vastly superior to the original mod. Things will only get better once key features are added in from the mod, such as hunting/cooking and vehicular turf wars.

Doesn't matter what you personally find annoying. The spawns are designed to place you on a part of the map you may not be familiar with, so that you don't know 100% where you may be upon joining into the game, and for the most part they work well in this regard. They are also designed to better distribute the player population across the map. If players were allowed to select a general area where they could spawn, everybody would simply spawn nearby Balota/NW Airfield and those contested areas would become an even bigger bloodbath than they already are, and nobody would bother spawning by Elektro or Berezino in relation. The current spawn system makes it so that spawning by the east/southeast shoreline makes major loot stockpiles like Berezino and NE Airfield more attractive to explore than throwing yourself into the meat grinder down by Cherno.

Is it a matter of logging out immediately or disconnecting your internet connection? I have yet to encounter any script kiddies myself, but I want to be prepared for when I inevitably do.
