    WARNING: 1.7.1.2 is Crashing Servers!

what do you call a hotfix for a hotfix?
  2. JeffCraig

    Hacked Items (Maybe Not?)

massive duping is going on. not hacks. it's 1.7.1.2

    Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.2

Please tell me we'll spawn with a melee weapon...

    Beta

You probably have an old mission file. The new mission file has the following line of code: disableChannels[]={0,1,2,6}; This is the only change between the old and new 1.7.0 mission file, because the 'disableChannels[]' function was enabled in one of the latest Arma 2 beta patches. If your mission file does not have this code, even having the beta will not restrict chat channels.

    DISABLE GLOBAL CHAT!?!?!!?!?

    Kneecapping newbies

Yeah. not sure why Dean didn't see this coming... I've never been a griefer in any game, but for some reason I'm really tempted to start in DayZ. Maybe its just my frustration at the recent changes... idk. What I do know is that no-one will be able to do anything about it. You got no gunz, lolz!

    Beta

Download and install the beta patch. Then copy the 'beta' folder in your arma 2: OA folder to your server folder. If you installed via steam, the path should be: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta Your server directory should be something like: C:\DayZ\Expansion\beta If one of the DayZ devs set it up, it will probably be on your desktop, not the C:\ drive. And thats it.
  8. NO No no no. PRO: - People spawning in can't quickly get into griefing Wrong. This will have the opposite effect. Making resources more scarce always makes the environment more hostile. And now people can REALLY grief and spawn camp because new people have no way to defend themselves. You just gave griefers a free ride. - Recovering your old loot becomes difficult and risky I guess? You've usually been looted anyway. - Add's a whole new element and gameplay at the start Makes it impossible for new players. It's hard enough learning Arma 2 controls and the zombie mechanics even with a gun. - Maybe adds some authenticity, who has a handgun at home? Most Americans. Even I have a bug-out-bag with food + water + firstaid + ammo for emergencies. I have a handgun, shotgun and a rifle. 80% of the people I know and work with have at least 1 firearm. And to those people saying 'this isn't about america'; we are simply replying to rockets question. Who has a handgun? o/ I do. This pro argument is invalid. CON: - It's fucking annoying having to sneak and run around to find a gun (believe me, I just tried it) Without melee, this is just stupid. - You can spawn many times before you actually have a life that finds a weapon Even after finding a weapon, zombie spawns and aggro and attacks through walls are so fucked that you'll soon die anyway. - Hackers, for the moment, will reveille in this change until their loopholes are closed I highly doubt Arma 2 will ever be hacker free. And doing this will make more people want to hack just to get started out. So yeah. This is way more than 20 words. And rocket will probably never read them anyway. I love this mod. I run a DayZ server. I will continue to be active in the community because this is an alpha test. But this change won't last. It will have the exact opposite effect on what you are trying to fix. Griefers don't care about beans, they do it because they enjoy the tears and frustration of other players. Try looking up the definition of griefing sometime.

1.7.1 in 20 words or less

Not updating my server until a build that is less buggy than 1.7 is released.

    Need help setting up rcon

For me, the file is named 'beserver.cfg' and it will be in your cfgdayz\BattlEye folder.
  12. Try this if you installed via Steam: On your server, launch Steam and open the Games Library. Right click on Arma2: Operation Arrowhead. Click 'Reinstall BattlEye Anti-Cheat'. Wait for install to complete. Once the install is complete, try to launch the Arma 2 Beta patcher again. If it works, go into your Steam directory and find the Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead Expansion folder (default is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion). Copy the 'beta' folder from there into your DayZ servers Expansion directory, overwriting any beta files already there.

    Admin Abuse

rockets post on this issue. Neo was not happy when he saw people getting kicked, but it wasn't until the admin was a total dick about it that he reported it on the forums. Neo has reported it; now it's up to the mods/devs to deal with it. The rules are clear on this issue, end of story.

    Dedicated server, from my (Home)

I'm not aware of any rules that restrict hosting servers from home. Please provide a quote and link blergh. funkake, please read the FAQs and other threads on server hosting. Here's the main one: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1429 You'll need to email the dev team to get a server id, etc. You don't need to mention that you're hosting from home, only your computer specs. It doesn't matter where the server is as long as it meets the server criteria.

The Misfits : A Day Z video thread.

Epic vid man :) I give it 5 stars it would have been awesome if you had a grenade to chuck in that mob!
  16. I have no opinion on the bandit skin thing, but I do believe there needs to be some sort of incentive to work together. Maybe a npc guarded town or outpost or military base that bandits would be shoot on sight. I think that would work best. It would allow the nice players to come together, meet up, trade, work on getting cars together, etc, and it would be a decent incentive not to be a dick. And you could build on that as well... Use these zones as safe spawn areas. Spawn camping is just going to get worse and worse from here. I never understood why people feel the need to do stuff like that, but I guess some people just have a lot of repressed rage. You could let players 'bind' themselves these outposts and allow them to spawn and get back into the game quicker. Hell, you could even make bandit outposts that everyone could go into, but are completely lawless. Give the bandits the same 'bind' perks too. A party system would go a long way towards getting players to group up and help each other as well. And it is something that people would use all the time. Currently, the only grouping up that people do is with people they are in direct contact with via skype/teamspeak/vent. If people had an in-game solution to come together with less risk, it would happen. It would also encourage group on group violence, and that would result in some sweet gun fights. The Arma engine is developed for just that type of teamwork. Lets put it to good use. Maybe these are shit ideas, but my point is: There needs to be something that rewards cooperative players. Like a lot of other people, I'm worried that the community will just devolve to the point where... I guess to where it is now... where there is no reason not to shoot someone in the back. Bang! Hey, free shit! Humans will always degrade to the lowest common denominator if they are not held accountable for their actions. This is something that would be a problem in a real-life armageddon scenario, and humans would have to find a way to cope with it if they wanted to survive.

Kicking of Players for Clan members

As has been said before' date=' this game is in alpha stage and there are many features that need to be developed. A reserve system is one of those things, and I'm sure rocket [b']will get one working by beta. Yes, it sucks for people that set up a server so they could play with friends/clanmates or whatever, but it's just something we'll have to live with for now. If all the servers were de-centralized and had their own stand-alone databases, admins would be free to do whatever they wished. I don't necessarily agree with how the server infrastructure is set up, as it is not really sustainable for any larger of a playerbase and it is placing to much pressure on the dev team. They should be free to spend their time developing the mod, not babysitting servers. But it is set up how rocket envisioned it and we need to respect that.
  18. I'm new to this game, and had some problems getting it working, and logging in, but I finally fixed all my problems last night and logged into some servers. Problem is, when I logged in, my whole screen was black. I didnt realize that it was just night-time. I just thought it was just a continuation of the problems I was having getting the game working, lol. It took me joining a couple different servers before I figured out what was going on. Call me a noob or whatever, but I doubt I'm the only one who's had this happen to them before. The night is TOO DAMN DARK! :) But this is just how the Arma 2 engine is right? Or is it just extra dark in DayZ?
  19. A friend and I installed DayZ last night and were having this problem as well. In our case, we found that it had to do with BattleEye (the AntiCheat thing). I'm not sure what exactly fixed the issue, but I did three things before re-launching and re-trying to join a server: 1. Re-Download the BEClient.dll file from the BattleEye website: http://www.battleye.com/download.html Extract the dll file to your BattleEye directory. I installed with Steam, so the path for me was C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2\BattleEye 2. Then I copied the whole BattleEye folder into the Operation Arrowhead folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\BattleEye 3: And lastly, I saw there is a folder called BESetup or something, in the arma2OA folder, and it has a setup file in there. So, I ran the BESetup thing. Nothing much happened, but it made a new file in that folder. So, give those steps a try and tell me if it works for you. It worked for both me and my friend last night.

    Keep Getting Same error

#update - what I posted last night was not correct, I tried to edit my above post, but I guess you cant do that on these forums?# After looking around on forums and such, I found that running Steam 'As Administrator' resolved this issue. So follow the install guide here: http://www.dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2085 I installed via Steam, so if you didnt use Steam, right click the Arma2OA shortcut and 'run as admin' and see if that works. I had problems connecting to servers after I got into the game without errors, but that had to do with BattleEye no installed correctly.

  22. Not trying to dumb down or make it carebear. Only trying to make it more realistic. Thats what this game is going for right? Realism? Making it so eyes would have to adjust to dark over time would be pretty cool.
