US 3480 - Banned Players

Cheers for the kind words, fellas. I appreciate it. We had a lot of great times, and sadly they have come to and end. No regrets. I don't hold any animosity towards anyone, especially the Dev Team. Razor, Kichilron, Alby, and the countless other devs, former devs, and contributors do more for DayZmod than most of the community will ever realize. There's no way to put into perspective the types of challenges they face, but in an attempt to do so I would say this: Imagine you are trying to build a house for all of your friends and family and their friends and their families to live in...you have only a hammer, nails, a saw, half a sheet of plans/blueprints, and one or two partners...and you're told that before you declare part of the house to be "done" someone that's not involved in your work has to sign off on it; furthermore you have no real way of making them come check your work when you do finish a bit. Oh, and you're building it free. No big deal. I have absolutely nothing but respect for not only the amount of work they put in (for free, mind you) but for the amount of never ending abuse they take from the community. Thick skinned, iron willed, and hard as woodpecker lips. We should all take a second before criticizing or complaining, because it's not an easy job they are doing--and they are doing it for free because they love what they do. Faco, you know I love you long time. 3480 never would have been what it once was (7th in the world at one point!) without you there to constantly fix anticheat measures and bugs, and also let me break your code until we could figure out what was wrong with it. You complicated s.o.b. I love you Cheers, Guys B) You all have my beans! :beans: :beans: :beans: -Jimmy

US 3480 - Banned Players

To whom it may concern: US3480 and US3481 are officially closing. There is a lack of interest, a lack of traffic, and a lack of donations. Don't get me wrong, the server was essentially running because I enjoyed it and other members (Namely Triton) were willing to split the bills. Now that there are fewer players around, much less traffic, and less to do...it's just not the same. We had a great run and I thank everyone that was a part of our community in one way or another. It's just time to call it quits. Cheers, Jimmy

US 3481 Server Down?

Hey fellas, I started updating 3481 yesterday and was pulled away to do some other things in the office. I'll get it back up and running with updated versions ASAP. Sorry for the delay. In other less fortunate news, the server will be going away as of the 21st of this month. I've canceled the dedi I was running 3480 and 3481 on due to lack of traffic. No sense having a couple of TG guys throw their money at something that's hardly used. It was a great run, and we all had a good time. I'd love to thank everyone that was part of our community. Cheers, Jimmy
4. Fellow survivors, In light of the recent issues with the Official Hive's hosting--I've created a private hive server. If you're looking for hundreds of vehicles, free loot, added spawns, all kinds of awesome trinkets and gimme items... Go someplace else. This is the same vanilla you've always loved in US3480--so it's only modifications are in the way of bugfixes and security. You can connect with launch options -ip=162.248.89.129 and -port=2314 or find it in the browser, or click the gametracker banner! Cheers, Jimmy

US3481 Private Hive Is Open!

The Official Hive is currently down, and being that the DayZmod Dev Team has no control over the hive or it's data...we're at a loss when it comes to the question of "what comes next?". If at all possible, I will migrate the data into a private database, and reopen 3480 as a private hive that retains all of the old character data, it'd be a shame to lose it all. Over 39,000 unique connections were made to that server throughout it's second life. No clue how many from it's first life. I'd venture a guess over 50,000 players have played in 3480, but maybe it has had a long enough run. Only time will tell... Cheers, Jimmy
6. I can remember more than one instance, Pwnoz0r, in which you personally replied to--and/or--fixed trouble tickets with my service with HFB. For that, I'd like to say cheers :beans: I would also like to mention that, although your efforts were in good faith, a lot of customers truly did get left hung out to dry. Your work to keep the company afloat are commendable for certain, but long-time clients such as myself and others within this thread were left without answers for countless weeks. Paying bills to HFB but getting no services in return, not even a reply to their tickets or cancellation requests. I don't hold you personally responsible, but I also expect it would be a long shot to expect anyone to have faith in you as of now. I mean that respectfully, and I do not mean it as a reflection on you personally--just the truth as I see it after this ordeal. Sorry it ended like this, because I think you were one of the few at HFB who knew what they were doing and cared enough to do it properly. I think the biggest hurdle will be the fact that many for HFB clients are feeling as though they had the wool pulled over their eyes, myself included. We paid hundreds of dollars out to HFB, then our service became intermittent. When the bills were due on HFB's side--our server would go down at no fault of our own. Then HFB would pay the bills to the datacenter and the service would come back up. Then HFB all but disappeared--and clients like myself put in cancellation & refund requests that not only were never completed...they were never even replied to. I've long since considered our money to be gone, but a reply with an explanation is what really burned the bridge. Again, this isn't directed to be a critique of your personal work, I know there were many factors at play. Just hoping to make our point respectfully, so moving forward your future endeavors are more fruitful for you. My main point is that the way the situation played out is what caused the uprising from the former HFB clients, not simply the fact that HFB died out. Clients like to see where their money is going, or at least have an explanation of what is happening when they aren't receiving what they pay for. That being said, you've always done good by me, when you were able to, and I appreciate that. Cheers, Jimmy edit: cleaned up typos and format

What's with muzzle flash and smoke?

It's tough when you rely on another game (ArmA in this case) for your weapons and configurations. Doing it all from scratch is a ton of work, especially when all of the work is essentially done for you, albeit not 100% correct. Not a lot of studios are going to bring in a weapons consultant to do things by the book, they'll do some research and come up with a product that looks good enough and suits their requirements for "realistic" weapons--even if true-to-spec would be best. Can't blame them, not every tiny detail is feasible to get done by the book. Cheers, Jimmy
8. To anyone seeking to find US3480, or a Vanilla DayZmod experience; US3480 Vanilla DayZ Hosted by Tenacity Gaming has moved to a new server. You may have seen some of the posts out there about HFB Servers disappearing into the mist, and all of their servers with it. In light of this, we have grabbed a dedicated server and relaunched 3480! To find & connect to the new US3480: -Gametracker (note, the join port is 2302) -or- connect to 162.248.89.129:2302 manually -or- to show support to the server, you can use the following code to add the banner to your signature (like mine) Finally, there is a Steam Group you are free to join for announcements and discussions. Thank you guys, we appreciate all of you! Hopefully we can quickly cover the ground we lost in ranks, and get the server populated quickly again! Cheers, Jimmy edit: should have given a huge thank you to Kichilron here for helping sort the server, cheers big fella :beans:

What's with muzzle flash and smoke?

My profile photo is actually of me firing an M16A1 in full auto. You'll notice the flash and smoke are entirely manageable. A 5.56 weapon doesn't generate a whole lot of either when fired in daylight under normal conditions. That being said, the larger the caliber--the more grains of powder in each round. Weapons without muzzle breaks (mosin, shotguns, pistols, et. al) would have noticeably larger muzzle flashes and smoke plumes to deal with as the unburned powder and gas exits the muzzle all at once in the same direction, whereas your "assault" or "battle" rifles are designed to decrease these effects. Cheers, Jimmy edit: not sure if you can view the image in full enough detail, but you can see shell casings in the air in the photo as they are exiting the weapon. It was a photo snapped via cell phone a few years back. Below is a larger version:

is us3480 dead?

You don't need to connect with those launch options :) That is simply for people who are launching via .bat and would like to be dumped straight into the server. You could simply launch DayZ then use the Multiplayer option to search the server list and find US3480 (official) or US3481 (private). Feel free to shoot a PM if you need any help getting back into the server, it's very much alive. Cheers, Jimmy

US3481 Private Hive Is Open!

3480 and 3481 both up and running :) Glad to see there's still some [mod] survivors out there! Cheers, Jimmy
13. Being that this is in the DayZmod section, I'll dangerously assume you are talking about the mod. Acting under that assumption, I'll cordially invite you all to play in US3480 (public hive) or US3481 (private) which are both adminned and have anticheat measures in place. 3480 has been forced to rebuild it's population since HFB died off and we lost the old server. There were 37,522 unique players who connected to US3480 before it's untimely death, so if we can get even a fraction of those players back I think you'll have plenty to play with, and in a fairly safe environment to boot. Cheers, Jimmy

Fps fixes, none of them work.

Hey mate, Just seeing as how you haven't posted any system specs, or the specifics of any steps you've tried--could I recommend a particular guide? This well-written DayZ FPS guide has a breakdown of a lot of settings, as well as the various commands you can for startup parameters etc.. I think it'd be worth reading over. Hell, even if you feel like you've tried everything it may have a few new ways of doing them that helps you out. It made a difference on my machine back when I did it! Cheers, Jimmy

HP ProBook 450 , switching gpu problem.

Sorry to hear you couldn't get this sorted. Maybe as of this reply you're up and running? Guess there is still some ground to cover before switchable graphics in notebooks is a viable option. Is there maybe any way you can set the BIOS to only use the GPU for graphics, rather than allowing your IGP to handle it? Cheers, Jimmy edit: did some poking around, and found this literature on HP's site. Not sure if it would be helpful, but maybe worth a read if you're still unable to play!

HP ProBook 450 , switching gpu problem.

Hey mate, Being that you're using AMD graphics I'm not as familiar with the mobile options--but I believe in your Catalyst Control Center (CCC) you should be able to see/edit options for switching graphics, no? I would suspect there's some profile settings, or hardware options that allow you to force the GPU to handle gaming (or maybe even particular applications?) on it's own. I would start poking through those options first and foremost. Cheers, Jimmy
20. You're absolutely correct on that. Sadly, my server was all funded via group-pay so I don't actually have a direct single transaction to file a dispute over. I have requested cancellation and refunds from May 18 through now, and heard nothing. The service isn't canceled and there's no refund. At the time I posted the request we had $45 in the group pay fund (our credit). I can't get a reply, or get my service canceled...but they sure as hell had no problem taking more money from the group credit for an invoice it generated and paid automagically. Frustrating. Cheers, Jimmy

DayZ Mod 1.8.1

It's not really all that bad, to be honest. The real obstacle is building a population and keeping it happy. The former US3480 (before we moved IP's recently) had 37,552 unique players connect to it over time. It takes a long time to build traffic, and if you offer a quality service and do your best to keep the server clean you can get there. I'm now working to rebuild 3480 to it's former glory, but I know I'm in for quite a long trip. Cheers, Jimmy

DayZ Mod 1.8.1

You'd be talking about remotely backing up one hell of a lot of data. Not sure how large a DB with just a few servers accessing it would be, but the Official Hive is up to the tune of 200GB. We wouldn't be anywhere near that size, but if the circumstances were such that it grew--I think it would become less and less feasible. Cheers, Jimmy
23. If you're still looking around, US3480 and US3481 are vanilla servers. 3480 is up and running on the official hive, and 3481 is private. We'd be happy to have you join us on either! Cheers, Jimmy

Stopping power?

Correct. Application > Caliber > Bullet Choice > Circumstantial Factors Cheers, Jimmy

Stopping power?

Hey mate, Generally speaking, there are a few factors to consider when selecting a firearm for an application (your intended use of the firearm will lead you down the path as to which factors are important to you): *Size (do you need to conceal it? will it be cumbersome? can you be mobile with it?) *Availability (of the weapon itself, and it's ammunition) *Range *Stopping power *Penetration (giggidy) Size does matter! But seriously. If you are looking to be mobile, you're not going to grab a 28inch barreled shotgun--when an M4 with it's 16" barrel would do you much better. Likewise, if you're trying to conceal a weapon, a pistol is a natural choice. Remember, this will change per application--but is an important consideration. Availability is also something worth considering. Sure, that one weapon you like may look cool--or even suit your needs for the other criteria--but can you feed it? Without ammunition, it's a fancy paperweight. Range is usually a top consideration for me, personally. If you are planning to get into buildings, tight areas, and generally close quarters--a pistol, tactical shotgun, SMG, or short rifle are the only options. If you need to shoot a few hundred meters, a mid length rifle is necessary--preferably one with quality glass atop it. Being outranged means you'll be retreating or dying. You choose. Stopping Power is typically considered "how quickly can you put your target on the ground". When speaking in terms of gunfights, you want to be the last man standing. The best way to do that is quickly dispatch your target. A larger projectile, or a faster moving projectile are often things to consider (ie. magnum rounds as opposed to standard). A larger caliber bullet is [generally] the way to increase stopping power. In terms of standardized bullets, the .45acp (is .45 of an inch in diameter) is a large round which lends itself nicely to dispersing it's entire energy into the target quickly. Putting the target down. Penetration is sort of the other side of the coin. A bullet is, by nature, a projectile meant to penetrate a target. The amount of penetration may dictate which caliber or bullet load you use. When hunting large targets (think dangerous/large) game or even long range use--you want to consider a high velocity round such as a 7.62x51mm (aka .308). There are, of course dozens of larger (and faster) options, but for the purpose of relating somewhat to this game and it's given-scenario, I'll stick to 7.62x51mm. At closer range, this round is likely to penetrate the target to an extreme. In many cases it would even cause a "though-and-through" meaning the bullet has penetrated the target entirely. For gaming intents, this is fine; however, the true intent of firing a bullet at a target is to get the most damage dealt. A bullet that remains inside the target is best, because this means it has completely spent all of it's energy in the target (causes the most damage). This is why rounds such as the .45acp are a prime choice for close-quarters weapons. The larger (but slower) .45acp will not penetrate like a rifle round would, but all of it's energy will [typically] be dispersed into the target which means it has higher "stopping power". Hopefully some of this helps clear up the practical side of things. I know it's a little silly to put a lot of thought or worry into the ideas behind tactical shooting, when we are talking about a game here, but if you know the reasoning behind it maybe you'll be able to make some good choices moving forward! Cheers, Jimmy
