In the interest of randomly being off-topic: Some people (myself included) tend to have monitor brightness set fairly low, as a personal preference. To see stuff in games, you might set game brightness higher. Because screenshots ignore the monitor brightness (the monitor is irrelevant to the screenshot), the screens look brighter to another person, with a higher monitor brightness :) -

I don't really see the point of having sticky posts, as clearly nobody reads them. ADMINS CANNOT SPAWN IN ITEMS -
Voice comms are supported in-game, right?
guerrero replied to MrQueebs's topic in New Player Discussion
As people have already said, Caps Lock tends to send your voice out globally and annoy a lot of people. The beta patch will fix direct comms (which transmits mostly in the direction you're facing, like actually talking in real life), but is only effective on beta-patch enabled servers. Direct comms is somewhat buggy outside of beta servers, right now :( People tend to prefer Teamspeak as it allows you to chat with the group you're playing with (if you've joined some friends), and it avoids the problems of direct comms, where other players have trouble hearing you if they're too far away (for example, if you're checking separate parts of a building). -
BAF, or British Armed Forces, is a DLC for Arma 2, with new campaign blah blah blah. It also has the pretty texture shown in that screenshot with the pretty texture just there! :D You can buy it on it's own, or apparently in a pack called Reinforcements (along with the other DLC, Private Military Company). It's all on Steam etc. etc.

Does Directional Channel voice chat work?

The beta patch is working just fine with my Steam install, however your results may vary (I've not heard anything bad about it with Steam, but don't blame me if it borks :D ) -

DayZ is still in Alpha currently. The beta patch referred to here is the ArmA 2 beta patch (an official patch), which fixes problems with the Direct Communication voice channel, if both the server and client are running it. You can grab the beta patch from http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php and I believe it's backwards compatible, so you can play on non-beta servers also (but the Direct Comms won't work properly). -
Aren't Z's supposed to die with one shot?
guerrero replied to MrQueebs's topic in New Player Discussion
I have noticed on some servers (I'm assuming it's a latency issue, or a me being derpy issue), they can be shot in the head (there's an obvious visual feedback, the face texture goes all red), but will take a minute or two before playing the dying animation. So if you're sure you hit it, it might just be catching up to it's animation. -
It might run on very low settings, but can't guarantee it will even start up, with your specs below the minimum for the game.

Your opinions on forced server rules (3DP, Crosshair etc )
guerrero replied to john_blund's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't use third-person camera, so I have no real opinion on it. However, I do have vision problems that make it difficult for me to use iron-sights at times, and the brightly-contrasting ArmA crosshairs are really useful for me...but the nametag thing is just annoying. Even when I do spot a nametag, I try to ignore it because I feel like I should spot these people using my own skill, not the game's. -
My issue with the Day Z apocalypse....

They're right behind you, of course! -
Purchase only Kickstarter is fine (bonus points for awesome DayZ merch for kickstarting!) Developed by the current team (err, does that class as "studio"?) with community input! As far as servers are concerned, I'm not sure. I'm leaning towards studio hosting, simply because of the way DayZ works. I feel like if persistence was shared between studio and community servers, some community hosts would complain about having to be connected to the persistence server, not being able to spawn in weapons and have fun, etc. Some might even ask for a cut of the profits, due to the fact they're hosting your mod (although that's unlikely). I also think you'd need to consider (if you've not already) that you're using a lot of company branding (Coke and Pepsi cans, Heinz Beans, etc.), and if you were making money, those should probably be changed to avoid the companies wanting X amount of your profits. ...this post would have been so much shorter if I didn't stop to think about it.
