@the OP: Combat logging - what you describe doing - you will learn is considered by this community one of the most despised actions possible. I take it you did not fully realize this, so at least now you know. Many private server owners - myself included - have taken measures to punish this behavior, and even ban players who still manage to it. The advice above is priceless; choosing where to log out is just as important as any other aspect of playing the game. @PaxC4T: I sympathize as the AI I installed on my Taviana server was far too godlike. I removed it rather quickly.

Also, there are buildings with loot coordinates that sometimes spawn the goodies just below ground or in a place you would not normally expect to find it. Some buildings also seem to spawn their loot after loot has spawned in others. One mistake I made often as a new player was to presume that all loot spawned as soon as I entered a given area. Try hanging around for a few extra minutes, and then checking again.

Nice post. Interesting figures. As a hero type it provides one with plenty of moving targets. Also seems with that kind of player to zombie death rate, that this war is winnable after all. Oh wait, they respawn ... but so do we. Fight on.

Namalsk and Taviana are my current obsessions. Dark, cold and haunted; expansive, autumnal and diverse. When I want to experience the real thing, I set down boots on Chernarus.

Try adjusting down your advanced video options. Resolution, view distance, FSAA and PPE seem to have a high impact. DayZ is a game of press your luck. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it costs you everything. Getting hard won experience will teach you when to push forward and when to hold back. Just keep in mind that there is no one way to approach every situation. You will die - many times - and that is a normal part of the learning process.

If you've played Far Cry 2, you get the idea of how useful rivers would be for an alternative means of travel. It'd be great if such waterways could be added to Chernarus, however I would like to see a from scratch Arma2 map inundated with such.

If you look at the code, there is a function to raise player temperature when inside buildings, but is apparently not used. I wonder if this will change in the new patch?

Another seemingly under visited locale I like to haunt is Msta. A Hilux spawn, a tree stand and stealthy offroad access north and south to interesting points. Used to be the Hilux spawn was bugged a bit, but fun repairing it with all the zeds about.

[SA] - Ammunition Types & Alternate Ammo

I agree with you OP. Some of the best fun I've had recently in DayZ was after adding the AA-12 to my server along with its three ammunition types. Essentially one weapon for most all occasions and those HE rounds sure do put a smile on my face. -
I also would like to see more difficult environmental factors. Currently the fn_temperatur.sqf that controls player body temperature change is rather forgiving. I prefer the system on Namalsk where altitude severely effects body temperature, and getting caught out in the rain on Celle can be pretty brutal without proper clothing.

Absolutely not. What really gets under my skin though are server owners who ask for donations based on modifications they've made that were created by others in the DayZ mod community. Now that takes some nerve. -
Ever spent hours repairing a vehicle only to hit one of those stone walls in a field at high speed? Now that is scary.

On the public hive my maximum lifespan has been 21 days. That life was taken by a hacker with a silenced weapon in Zeleno. On my own server, when it was running Namalsk .72 I think I lived for two weeks once. That run was ended by sliding down a ladder from two stories up, getting hit by an EVR while crawling cross country, and then bleeding out. Other than the above, I had a character on Taviana who fell off an oilrig. From time to time I would log in and swim for a bit, get bored and log out. I think he lived for a long time adrift at sea, but that really does not count.

For Whitetail and Black Bear I prefer the Marlin .35 Remington, however the .30-30 is the quintessential brush gun around these parts. In game the Winchester and the Lee Enfield serve different roles - in my opinion. For stationary ranged work with nothing else available, I would choose the Enfield. For scouting, or reaction to contact it'd be the Winchester.

I sincerely hope that oriental themed edged weapons never make an appearance in any official DayZ mod. They just do not fit. A bayonet, a combat knife or even an antique saber would fit the bill much more realistically.

NW AF is mythological, man! It's the Fountain of Youth in the minds of most newer players. They fantasize ceaselessly about each and every room in the barracks, dream about checking the latrine and underneath each bunk for treasure magical. A firehouse and an ATC and hangars on top of all that? Why old Quartermain himself would give up on King Solomon's just for a peek at NW AF. Of course, instead of dungeon traps, you're more likely to encounter high velocity hot lead, but hey - whatever. It's a gold mine up there. Just don't let it become your white whale, or you might buy the farm - not the one outside Lopatino.

More than the ability to escape from zombies, I hope that the SA zeds are more capable in that they will be able to actually move toward a player from first aggro. I also would like to see lots of them spawn indoors. That would give us a nice shock - running into a room full of zombies, more following you in from outside. I don't think I will miss the aforementioned exploits. However, I am quite used to judging player presence by the custom debug monitor "zed counter" fluctuations on my server, so I might miss that. I really do expect the pine tree exploit to be fixed. -

A lasting connection, EyeoftheYeti? All that comes to mind is an incident where I ran nearly five kilometers to help a stranger who had crashed his ATV and claimed to have broken legs. He turned out to be sprawled out on a dirt road north of the NW AF. He was also legit and after I gave him morphine, food and some ammo, he went on and on about how I was too good to be true. Turned out he was a hero type player already, so going out of my way for him did not change or impact his style of play, but I like to think that maybe he spread the story of what happened that day. -
My First DayZ Experience With an UNfriendly Player

One thing to remember OP is that in DayZ you control the flow - of your own actions. Most often when a player queries your friend/foe status, they are going to be somewhere other than where they indicate, and very likely they will have you or the doorway you are about to exit, in their sights. Always proceed from place to place as if someone is aiming their sniper rifle at you. Never presume a player contact will work itself out for your own good. Take a few simple defensive measures, work them into your routine and when they've become second nature, you will be much more likely to survive. When I first began playing DayZ, I had this thing about hesitation when encountering another player. Sometimes I would let another player close in while other times I'd fire warning shots, or just shoot their legs out from under them. The more consistent you are - hero or bandit - the more easily you will adapt to changing situations on the fly. In other words, knowing what to do and doing it your own way over and over again can get you pretty far. -

I liked your video. I would just add that on the public hive server hopper snipers/spotters will like clockwork hop the Air Traffic Control and top floor of the firehouse. I usually low crawl around the southernmost barracks to avoid aggro and to give loot more time to spawn in. Lastly, if available I will always pack a weapon with decent range for sniper standoff capability. All in all a great video.
