  1. I am running an Hfb package plus server, on which I have a few times changed map packs. Prior to the problem I am about to describe, the vehicle spawn "button" in the TCadmin control panel would spawn from maybe 1 to 10 vehicles randomly and then while the script would call lots of vehicles it would not spawn any. So now, after a fresh install of a map pack, the vehicle spawn script "button" when activated, calls zero vehicle spawns and spawns zero vehicles EVERY time. Apparently, it seems to no longer work. Before reinstalling the current map pack I set everything up right, i.e. I changed the instance id and all that jazz in Php myadmin database, etc. Nothing seems to work I've brought this to the forums here because despite several open support tickets, I have not heard from Hfb support in nearly three days.

    Help with vehicle spawn script

Thank you for the replies. I had set the vehicle limit prior to my problem to spawn up to 70 vehicles - so that was not the cause. The spawn script worked when I switched back to Chernarus 1.7.5.1 so I do not know what was going wrong. HFB is really taking a long time to reply to support tickets, so I guess I have to just deal with it at the moment, and stay on Chernarus.

    DayZ: Namalsk

I rent a Namalsk server through HFB and direly want to update to .74 and 1.7.5.1 but HFB does not as yet have an option to update Namalsk beyond .73. I suppose either I will have to wait on them to add .74 support? Is there any way ( I am a novice at server admin) to manually update to .74 without seriously messing something up? Thank you in advance.
  4. I've rented a private server which I plan to run without frills or add ons - I want to keep it as true to the original DayZ spirit as possible. At present we are on Mercenary difficulty level without third person view, waypoints, side chat, etc.Right now we are running Namalsk, and of course getting a feel for running a server. Within the next few weeks we will be opening the server up to the public, and plan to make it a stable, friendly place where DayZ addicts like us can make a long term home. We do not ask for donations from players and never will. Nor do we award special perks or loadouts to anyone, including ourselves. We began with the bare minimum loadout, and that's how we expect everyone who eventually joins to play. About the only alteration I've made is to somewhat increase the vehicle spawn number, but I've kept them spawning in a damaged state. At any rate I will be posting updates here from time to time as we bring players in. We are not a clan, and as admins like to play incognito along with whoever joins. I've been the victim of admin abuse on a number of other private servers, so I know what that is like. So if you are into Namalsk and DayZ about as hard as it can get, keep this post in mind and I will update our server status on these boards.

    New Namalsk Hardcore Server

We're thinking about using Rmod to build a safezone/trading post on our Namalsk server map. Still preparing the server but should open to the public next week.
  6. Just received and configured my new package plus server through HfB. I am unable to find the server address in Dayz Commander, so I am wondering how I can log into it?

New HfB Server Owner Having Difficulty

Please lend me a hand with the above question, if anyone has any idea how I can find and log into the new server I just rented. My support ticket remains unanswered, and I still cannot find my server in DayZ Commander.

    Some questions about looting.

One key to surviving a trip around the NW Airfield is to always avoid long, open lines of sight - especially any area that is visible from an elevated position. Like Rott I sometimes approach from the south, or from the wooded region in the north. Essentially, I tend to skirt the outer wall at a crouch, while constanly looking left and right. Using the wall as cover, one can at least avoid enemy fire from within the airfield itself and there are lots of trees running parallel to the perimeter wall that privide a degree of protection from enemies aproaching the airfield from without. As with an approach to any loot region, make sure you "read" the signs from a distance with binos or a weapon scope before making the decision to go in. As for the eastern side of the NW airfield ... you just have to take your chances. Once out on to the tarmac and either inside the firehouse or the control tower, you become a target for bandits, server hoppers, etc. and anyone else with eyes on looking for signs of your presence. Approaching uphill through the forest from the east about toward the center of the eastern side of the airfield there is some nice small hill terrain that will hide you from the control tower sniping position and firehouse upper windows. The risk remains high regardless so one must weigh greed over survival when going there solo. And of course, going to NW on a high pop server, or with bandits or braggarts running off at the mouth in side chat is a really bad idea. My "mountain wraith" play style allows for visiting such locations only at night, with a cloudy sky and pouring rain. Even then I often get too paranoid and bug out before looting a single item. All up to the risk your willing to take.
  9. I feel your pain, mate. I got by my first month, month and a half without a hacker encounter - now it seems a regular part of the game experience. I don't get it either, DayZ is all about survival. Hacking obviously negates that aspect and breaks the gameplay. I had a hacker spawn in and kill me, but touch nothing in our camp. The reasoning? I've no clue.
  10. I was at my camp in the woods, crouched between rock formations, a few minutes ago at approx 12:30 US EST on US 1401 when player Rick Ross logged in and killed me with a silenced G36. Obviously I must have had weapons he wanted: an M14 Aimpoint in my hands, and an M24 in my Alice. Once again, tens of scores of hours down the drain - not lost in expected combat with a legitimate bandit or a mob o zed - but by a cheating #%# Is there some way I can get my equipment back?

US 1401- Rick Ross - Hacker

Thanks for the response. The issue is resolved, and would a mod please close this thread? Special thanks to 'Dead Zone' the admin of US 1401 for returning my equipment and for being a fair server administrator.

How dangerous are the zombies REALLY

I have disagree somewhat. The zombies are much more difficult to deal with. They seem to enter buildings now if you linger in them to long, and if you fire an unsilenced weapon in a building in town, you are very likely going to die. Also, zombies aggro in a large area now when you repair a vehicle. I would say that the only way zombies are not a problem, is either if you are cheating, or have a partner holding aggro with rifleshots while you loot.

DayZ: Most Private Hives Are Not Real DayZ

I vehemently agree. DayZ - for me - is about the struggle ... the pain, the stress, the time and the effort. I once spent five hours repairing a white offroad I found in Myshkino; I was on foot and had to run as far as Stary and other points south and north to gather parts, while deciding which food and ammo items to drop from my limited inventory space in order to pick up those parts. That is DayZ. DayZ is about self-reliance; putting in time patiently, man or woman vs. hell on cyber earth, but more importantly the gamer struggling against his or her self, in order to overcome impatience, bad decision making and greed. Real DayZ takes time. You log in with nothing, you find a knife, canteen, hatchet and oh those lovely matches; you collect some meds, some food, perhaps a weapon or two and - in my case - you head into the wilds because you know other survivors will be out hunting; some hunting for you. I am addicted to the struggle. The more effort it takes, the more pleased and immersed I become. Finding fully fueled, repaired vehicles is ok for ten minutes of experimentation, but that is far too easy long run and game breaking. I want to live the apocalypse. I am neither a loot hound nor possessed of a cyber gun fetish. I take what I find and try to specialize with it as best I can. That is why other gamers who either want a half hour experience with everything handed to them, or want to film flashy videos of survivors offing each other military grade weapons, annoys the heck out of me. You want that better backpack, gun, NVG, etc. then earn it.
  14. DayZ truly is a game of improvise, adapt and overcome - in no particular order. Complexity, for me - is a good thing. This game is rife with variety: terrain, architecture, weapons, simulated actions and on and on. One of the keys to success in DayZ however is much patience and care. Patience with the search for means of survival, and taking great care to survive zombies and other players. In effect, DayZ is not a game well suited for those without the aforementioned qualities or willingness to apply them. For me, it is great in all its sometimes buggy akwardness; and I hope the complexity is increased as development moves forward. One simply cannot find the same features in another game. I hope you adapt to a means of survival and really get into the game.
  15. I just have to say ... bring it on. I love the changes. The feeling of reward - to start with nothing, outnumbered scores, hundreds, thousands to one; all alone and with only you to rely on; and surviving long enough to carve out a small niche let alone find vehicles, etc. - is amazing. Some gamers love features to tinker with and lots of them. DayZ is a survival simulator. Now let's go do it - survive.
  16. I also played WarZ first, for a couple of months, and OP let me tell you, there is no comparison. The above written, DayZ could be the last game I ever play consistently; it's that good. WarZ is one small map, places you've seen and died in countless times, and developers and a community with the mentality of the psychotic undead child of Marquis De Sade. But really, while griefers and hackers exist in DayZ, suffering their actions until you learn the ropes and get established is worth it. I've been at DayZ for over a month, and have scores of hours played, Every aspect immaginable is superior to WarZ. Like another poster said, just hop in and survive.
  17. So I have been spending large amounts of time across several DayZ maps, and enjoying the heck out of the game in many of it's forms. When player behavior in DayZ is mentioned, it seems the panacea answer is "Well, It's DayZ" and I am quite fine with all that implies. I roll with both the good and bad behaviors evinced by other players I meet in game, and I adapt accordingly. An incident last night I experienced however, is worthy of mention and discussion. I was playing Taviana on a private server last night, alone out of the forty-nine other available slots. So a dude logs in, we'll call him B. B immediately begins to chat my virtual ear off, of course asking me where I was and did I have a vehicle and could we meet up and what gun did I have--all the usual, normally highly annoying questions one might be subjected to during any given play session. I am over in Krasno--having found a vehicle, crossed the bridge and scouted the airfield for a heli and other items. B spawned in new to the server in good old Stare Pole. So I explain my extreme distance from him (B is new to Taviana) and tell him that yes, if he finds a vehicle or hoofs it, I will meet him on the bridge. He then goes on about having a learning disability and apologizes for his spelling, etc. in side chat. TIme passes, B finds a vehicle, we meet on the bridge and he is all about the etiquette of dropping or stowing his weapon in his backpack to prove he is friendly. I repeatedly tell him I do not care; secretly I had decided to shoot him in the leg if he proved a bandit at heart. So we meet, he gets in my Humvee and we head out. I show him some of the map on the way to Martin to pick up some better weapons. In a firehouse south of Martin, B aggros a ton of zombies and gets trapped inside. They break his leg and I kill a dozen or so of them with the 1866 lever action. I instruct B to crawl to our car (we do not have morphine) which he does. We head to the barracks outside of Martin. I park well outside the walls and crawl in, In the barracks I find morphine for him and crawl back out to the car. B comes driving inside the base and aggros all the bloody zeds. There's another car inside and he suddenly wants it. So I give him the morphine, he fixes his leg and rolls out in the other vehicle. After that, he would no longer talk to me in sidechat, or at all. So I gear up (find a DMR), and then continue driving north. I pass B a few Km north, pulled to the side of the road, just sitting there. I figure maybe he has gone suddenly hostile and decide to keep going on. Server restart message comes up, so I park in the woods and log. I come back half an hour later, and the side chat is on fire with hate between B, his apparent friend with whom he is now playing with, and some other player. Seems B had set up an ambush on the bridge connecting the islands and is killing whoever tries to cross and looting their corpses. The dispute between B and his victims goes on and on, and I get some insight into his "true self" I suppose you could say. Seems B is actually a long time bandit, and loves to player kill with his buddy, with whom he was on skype. Long story short, this B guy played friendly with me for over an hour. During that time I had my back turned to him many times, and also had much better gear than him, a better vehicle, lots of food, etc, and yet he did not try to betray me. Then suddenly B comes out as bandit to other players on the server. What a fractured psyche this fellow must possess. Either that or, he is only "Bandit Brave" when in the company of a friend. Strange DayZ indeed.

Really?? You have no idea how pissed I am

That's definitely not cool, OP and I understand your frustration. For me, the black SUV is one of the deadliest vehicles in game as I always flip them in small ditches.

    A Range Of Behavior

Adversely--to my own OP--last night I joined a new Chernarus server, I am always looking for a better one to play on or my favorites vanish, and met two great players with whom I chatted at length. One was a long time vet of said server and the other was new to it like myself. The vet offered me a ride in his Military Offroad as we happened to be in the same northern town. Unfortunately, while he was sincerely friendly, he accidentally ran me over and broke my leg. Whilst I was bleeding out, the poor guy was trying to fend off zombies from my injured cyber self but their were well over a hundred of them so I told him to save himself as he must have had a several week life on his character. He stayed and protected me while down, gave me morphine and first aid, and drove me out of town. Ultimately the zombies charged us and killed me anyway, but the effort the veteran player made to help me out was commendable.

    A Range Of Behavior

Thank you all for the great responses. I agree that everyone has their own preferred playstyle, I just had to shake my head at this experience. I am a careful player who sometimes ignores all chat and goes solo. Other play sessions. I will meet up with anyone and give them a chance; I suppose that is my idea of "endgame" -- teaming up with others. I suppose it is down to personal choice however, I tend to respect the fact that even though DayZ is just a PC game, players do spend hours working on their characters and so for me killing another for no reason or randomly, is the same as stealing their time. Obviously, in an Unreal Tournament type game killing other players is the objective, and everyone does it because there is nothing else to do -- that's the primary game mechanic. I will chalk it up I suppose to personality differences and leave it at that.

    Why always Russia

I would like to see Delta/Swamp/Mangrove map, with military bases scattered deep in the swamp, and much of the area covered in knee deep water from which the player can get an infection. Try running away from zombies in muck, mud and mire. Overall, I do not mind the Russian settings of Chernarus, etc but the cyrillic is like Greek, man. Pun intended.

What is the best map on dayZ?

This is a tough one. I enjoy Chernarus for the sheer scope of the map; and I play regular and 2017. I enjoy Namalsk for the atmosphere, and Takistan for team play. I'd suggest you just give them each a shot; there's some great game play to be had on all maps.

Namalsk: Why do folks like it?

Namalsk is very immersive; Namalsk feels more like the aftermath of a worldwide disaster should. The empty spaces, malevolent feeling pine forests, and forlorn background noise combine--for me--into a wholly desolate, sometimes nerve severing experience. That said, I have come to know the island's roads quite well (it is a smaller map). I was also initially spoiled by my first several days in Namalsk as a friend had just rented a new server and for some time the population was just me or me and a few others. Namalsk is more hardcore; both from an environmental survival aspect and a PvP one, and the opportunity to try out a variety of weapons is interesting. I also am a big fan of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series, so the EVRs and Bloodsuckers and other Chernobyl-esque touches suit me. I am now playing on a hardcore veteran server that allows first person view only. Armed with an SVD Camo, an MP5SD; I stick to the forests, hunt game and refill water bottles, and spend time watching other players, but rarely engage them unless they decide to stalk me. Great fun.

Best places to pitch a tent/make a base?

I've had a lot of trial and error experience with campsites on Namalsk. That said, I had a camp with two tents for around half a month hidden in plain sight. The West point area--broadly speaking--is one of the best, but far off the beaten path if you are without a vehicle. Along the road to Western army checkpoint is another. I don't know if hackers/cheaters use ESP to find vehicles, but I have hidden cars and even a helicopter in places not visible from the air and well screened from roads, etc. and I think the longest I have had one is just a few days before it is discovered and "borrowed".
