  1. Taviana without doubt - including land and sea. She is 600 sq. km + near vertical terrain. I agree that Chernarus has a more twilight, almost pre-rendered feel, yet after realizing and exploring the sheer scale of Taviana's largest cities, I must say that Cherno feels like a small burg, and Elektro a one horse village. The ultimate for me, would be bringing that dark, gritty, suffocating Chernarus feel to Tavi. Never hurts to dream - I suppose.
  2. The universal rule of DayZ, is that nothing is permanent, and nothing is ever completely safe from other players. Admins/server owners should be the first to realize and respect this. If I were you, I would never dirty my boots on their server again. "Admin bases" are completely ridiculous. I admin a Tavi server, and one hard lesson I have learned is that players (because I am a player too) must be allowed to move freely around the entire map. I hope you find a better DayZ home.

    Lapuas

They are easily added to the loot tables of private servers; I've added them to military high value on my test server. Good for disabling vehicles at range, but slow and clumsy up close - not the best of overwatch weapons by far.

    Zombies ignoring/not attacking

Could well be a result of addon scripts the admins added to their server - if the server you were banned from is a private one. For instance, I experimented with making zombies run faster, and I had their speed set so high that evidently my server CPU could not calculate both the increased speed and AI and thus most zombies would not attack when I ran by them. I think that this can also happen if max local zeds is increased too high in the variables.sqf.
  5. ^^Good stuff, bfisher However, I am not convinced that DayZ was or is intended to mimic precisely a zombie apocalypse movie or other piece of genre fiction. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it seems more focused on the post apocalyptic road warrior content with human interaction post end of world rather than purely on zombies. Still waiting for that pure zombie horror goodness in online gameplay. One cannot however beat DayZ at the moment.

g36c not sure if its a great gun

The G36C Camo is a really nice, pointable CQB weapon in my opinion. When using standard ammo, put the tip of the front sight on your target's neck - and you're good for 100 meters or so. When using SD ammo, say a prayer, and put the tip of front sight on your targets pelvis - to get a headshot out to about 75 meters. For a crouching target with SD ammo, the tip of the front sight should be on it's feet. I like the G36C, but it has limitations at distance, and seems very loud.
  7. New features can be good ... it's just growing pains, and in DayZ, there's plenty of Tylenol to go around. I say pour some more water on the grass and stand back!

    Question about non Chernarus maps

Namalsk is smaller (like 7x7km) but you have winter cold conditions which sap your temperature, threats other than players and zombies, and a wider variety of weapons. Taviana is massive (600 square km) with two large main islands, many smaller islands, actual cities hundreds of meters wide - big enough to get lost in, and the .eu version has different weapons and headshot only zombies. Celle is about the size of Chernarus but flat, has a river, the autobahn and many, many weapons not found in stock DayZ. Oh ... and I enjoy them all, that is the problem!

    Best gun for player hunting

On a standard server, I will take the MP5SD for close to almost medium range. It is highly underrated for taking down another player. Where available, the L86 LSW is amazingly lethal - up close and beyond 600m. And the AA12 w/HE rounds ...

    what does this mean?

The server your were trying to join was using this: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?141732-ARMA-2-Community-Configuration-Project-(A2CCP) and I am guessing you need that addon to play on it.

    MH6J

I have found it consistently at the Black Mountain ruins, around grid 033 - 101. It usually spawns almost right up against the inside of the castle parapet wall.

    Is it just me?

I think that it is also a matter of repetition and already knowing what to expect. Not so long ago, vanilla Chernarus excited me like no other DayZ map. I had a well hidden camp south of Black Lake on a high population server, and the interactions with other players - most of them bandits or killer clan members - heightened the experience immensely. That was just after 1.7.5.1 was released, and all I could think about beyond survival was finding and trying out some of the cool new guns, and experimenting with the new zombie behavior, etc. Now, I know where every vehicle spawns, how to go to ground and avoid other players, and how to easily defeat the once seemingly impossible new zombies. I think that some have grown tired of the same map, with the same weapons, roads, spawn points, vehicles, etc. That does not mean I want a 200 vehicle, m4 SD to start experience. I firmly believe that one should spawn in new on a server with just a toothbrush and a bad case of paranoia. However, some out there - many it seems - crave a somewhat fresher experience, and that is something available on a modded private server. I remain skeptical about the standalone. I worry - especially with console release mentioned - that it will end up turning into Fallout 4, with too many frills. Rocket's original idea remains brilliant; I just hope he is not pressured down a different path. Myself, I just want to play a hardcore zombie apocalypse survival game, where the zombies are bad guy number one, and the mechanics of survival are truly hellishly difficult.

New patch coming soon to dayz

@ the OP: Thank you for the heads up. I can't wait. Now that I have figured out fully 1.7.6.1 lol, I will have something more complex to delve into. I have never played/modded/thoroughly enjoyed a game as much as DayZ. Thank you again.
  14. Very true. For instance, DayZ.st provides "single instance" private servers where gear is unique to that one alone, and private hive servers on which gear is save across several servers.
  15. Saethkept

    Ok this is weird o.O

Could someone have logged in and out while you were busy, or without your notice - or was it your own private password locked server? I know sometimes, when I am playing on my test server, which is password protected, I think I hear the approach of a helicopter from far off. Creepy. At least you had a warranty on that tire, right?
  16. I would only add that on some private server hives your gear will carry across several private servers.

    People shooting freshspawns

As for KoS - especially that of newly spawned players - the adjective craven comes to mind as an apt descriptor of the perpetrator; the noun as well for after the fact. KoS during sudden, explosive, "unscripted" encounters makes sense in the face of the lightning fast fluidity of some DayZ encounters. Posting oneself near a spawn in point with the intent to kill the next arrival is cowardice. If you do that, well, you're more suited to WarZ ... yuck.

    What Now? - Brainstorming session.

You could also run a taxi - air or ground - or a bus tour. You'll end up with injuries and scars like the 'Fall Guy' (what a great show), but it's an amazingly good and fast way to make friends, discover enemies and stop bullets that pop through your car windshield with various parts of your cyber body.
  19. @the OP: No, it really does not bother me as DayZ is a video game - a really enjoyable one - but a video game just the same. I'd rather not have to march off to the range and zero my weapon before heading out to survive for the day's play, or re-zero it after some rambo type ran me over with a bus. Regardless of the intensity, in DayZ your polygons only bleed pixels.
  20. While I have customized my Tavi server - by modifying zombie difficulty, primarily - I cannot imagine running a map with either forty helicopters or a "starter kit". I definitely see where you are coming from though. Oddly enough, my goal has been to make DayZ much more difficult, rather than to hold a player's hand. All of that banter expressed, I see no harm in custom loot tables and a wider variety of vehicles - so long as they spawn damaged so players must first repair them. I mean, why can I have a silenced M4, but not silenced PDW? makes little sense, but I digress ...

Why does everyone have a hat?

You know, Iron Maiden said it best "If you're gonna die, die with your boots on". Now apply that to hats and DayZ.
  22. Most recently ... I was flying a Chinook helicopter on an rMod Taviana, still getting used to that particular bird, when I spotted a helicopter crash on a mountaintop near the ski resort. I hovered in to see if I could find a reasonably flat landing area when one of the main rotors clipped a tree or the side of the mountain. With warning alarms blaring I tried to get her under control but ended up crashing around Gora Triglav (top of the mountain). I lived, but had broken a leg. No morphine of course. I tend to get sidetracked when flying around the map by pretty much every cool looking building and place. Raiding a hospital had been on the list, but anyway. So, with knowledge that a tent pitched inside the stadium in Lypestock contained a virtual pharmacy, I crawled all the way there, quickly expending the ammo for my AA-12 and PDW and eventually resorting to hatchet my hatchet and killing zombies by slashing at their shins. I think the journey was about 4km.

    Hack or No?

A server admin can use the Arma2 editor to build a base, and there are mods and scripts a server owner can install to enable base building. The floating items? That sounds really odd, unless server restarts caused items to move, but I have never heard of items placed legitimately floating like you describe. I would proceed with caution; aliens or hackers - you never know

Never played DayZ before and needing advice.

Some basics you'll want to gather ... - Food and drink (very obvious) - Matches, hatchet, hunting knife (harvesting and cooking meat) - Morphine, antibiotics, an extra bandage (to deal with broken bones and infection/a cold) - A heatpack A few tips ... - You really do not have to enter a town or city for any of the above - Treestands and remotely located sheds and barns will have everything you need - You do not have to go to the NW airfield to get military gear - Helicopter crash sites are a better bet, as are military vehicles (some spawn with weapons inside) - You don't have to respond to other players in chat who either call you out, or seem to know your name somehow ... - Just because someone is shooting at you does not mean you will die. Run, duck, zigzag, find cover, return fire, let them come to you - Proceed at all times as if there are hostile players in your area. - Not everyone is out to shoot you on sight; pretend however that they are, and try to watch them for a bit before interacting with them - Watch chat ... you'll usually learn the good from the bad from the awful rather quickly - Clan tags are usually trouble - If someone says hacker in chat, you might want to log out - You're going to have a great time!
