What DayZ has to learn from other games
Leto (DayZ) replied to m.w. vindicator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
NVGs are too rare. Flares too bright and dangerous. Chemlight are ok for small tasks, like looting indoor but not much else. Decent flashlights are a must for the stand alone IMHO. Headlights would be best, but being able to attach a light to any weapon with duct tape should be the bare minimum. -
A re-vamped weapon and ammo equip system. (has pictures!)
Leto (DayZ) replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd love to have magazines and ammunition separated in the game. It would make a lot more sense. I think ammunition should also be rarer than it actually is in the mod so every single bullet you fire is precious. Lee Enfield, Marakov, .45 cartridges, shotgun shells, DMR, AR15, AK74 and AKM magazines are far too common right now. I bit like in Metro 2033 on the harder difficulty level where you rarely have more than 2 full magazine for your main weapon. -
Do you feel bad about taking things from other people's tents?
Leto (DayZ) replied to robotpenguin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't have a problem stealing from tents, but if it's just regular supplies and weapons, I don't take anything so I can keep checking the tent until something better appears. The only NVGs I ever got in Dayz were found in a tent, so I keep hoping to find another pair one day. -
I would like blood to regenerate slowly as long as all your basics needs are answered (temperature/water/food) rather than gaining blood instantly from eating meat. Maybe blood could regenerate faster after eating meat. I would remove blood transfusion completely has it has no place in a "realistic" survival game. There's gotta be other ways to encourage team work and "heroism".

I like the idea of buried weapon caches. It should require a shovel or entrenching tool and some sort of wooden box. The cache could be harder to find than tents, but hold fewer items, like 2 guns + 10 items. As for tents, if they don't shine and pop up over long distances before tree foliage is visible, it would already be a great improvement.

The Czech backpack should have been the biggest pack in the game. I don't undertsand why Rocket made it the third best. The ALICE pack is visually half the size of the The Czech backpack and yet it can hold 4 more items?

Should Heli Crash Sites be marked on the Map?
Leto (DayZ) replied to klesh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hell no, they should even be more random than right now so you never know where one will pop up. -
Proof that bags are too small
Leto (DayZ) replied to Sterling (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have nothing against the idea, but duffle bags should slow your character down an only allow jogging over a very short distance. I could add an interesting dynamic as you would have to take a risk when moving a lot of stuff on foot. -
Since we can add/repair parts, being able to remove them would be a nice addition. This would allow us to salvage parts from other vehicles and also let us remove parts from your own when we log off.

Being able to remove vehicle parts
Leto (DayZ) replied to Leto (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Sorry I ruined your day, I hope you can recover. -
I don't undertsand this weird fantasy that people have about disarming others or taking them prisoners. If you don't trust someone at all, shoot first or avoid confrontation. Nobody will make me drop my guns. Unless you have NVGs or a ghillie suit, your guns are your only worthy possession and there's no point giving them up to stay alive IMHO.

It was a duffle bag. -
What is the point of this game now?
Leto (DayZ) replied to LordHussyPants's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Looks like it's time for you to get killed and start over. -
If you want to sneak around, crawling over soft surface like grass makes you invisible to zombies, even in broad daylight. On harder surfaces, you make a bit of sound, but zombies will not hear it if they are a couple of feet away. Once you have crawled inside a building, get up, but walk instead of running. The zombies can still be alerted by your loud running footsteps even if they are outside. The other dangerous, but effective technique is to ignore zombies and run (without stopping) wherever you need to loot. Once inside a building turn around and kill the zombies as they slowly walk thru the door. The hatchet is the best weapon for this as it is silent. Another technique for larger buildings is to simply go up a floor or as far away from the entrance as possible and go prone and immobile until the zombies lose interest and walk out of the building. At dusk, night (maybe too dark without NVGs) and dawn, zombies are blinded by darkness so all you have to worry about is loud footsteps. Walk or couch-run over hard surfaces and you won't be bothered by zombies. Of course, none of this will protect you from human players which are the only real enemies in DayZ.

I love the inventory system personally.
Leto (DayZ) replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We shouldn't even be able to put any rifle in the backbacks, only pistols and smgs. I would make it so that if you carry a second rifle or shotgun, it's slinged over your left shoulder or across your back under the backpack. -
I only found one pair in a tent. I never dared putting them on the ground to see what they look like. I thought the NVGs would have allowed me to hunt for good gear under the cover of darkness, but as it turns out, there are more players at night than during the day on the private hive where my character got them.

Leto (DayZ) replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I got used to the DayZ inventory, but it's still crap. The game needs a drag and drop inventory like the one in the STALKER games where you clearly see what's on the groud, what's in your bag and the space it needs. -
Sounds like my first day playing the mod. Check this map to see where you spawned and which building can be looted: http://dayzdb.com/map

What i've experianced in Day Z so far
Leto (DayZ) replied to Mr. Charles (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Mr. Charles. When you are a fresh spawn, there's 2 basic strategy IMHO: Fast and dangerous: Gearing up at Cherno and Elektro, especially on a populated server. Slow and safer: Moving north via forests and gearing up in the smaller towns with supermarkets while looting deer stands along the way. Also, avoid looting Stary Sobor and the North West Airfield unless you are sure that nobody is around. If zombies spawn at your arrival, it means you are the only player nearby, if zombie are already walking around, someone else is there. -
I think am going to wait for the SA now.
Leto (DayZ) replied to ocelot07's topic in New Player Discussion
The more I play, the more I feel like there are a lot more hackers than it seems on the surface. The obvious, flamboyant hackers who teleport people around and spawn all kinds of weapons and vehicle are not so common and quickly dealt with most of the time. However, I suspect there are a lot of low profile hackers who want to have the upper hands on others. Mostly by using map hacks to see where other players, tents and vehicle are located. -
How can other players know that I'm around them?
Leto (DayZ) posted a topic in New Player Discussion
This has happened to me a few times when a player will somehow know that I'm in the same area and call my name in side chat. How can they know who I am? When I put my pointer or crosshair over another player, all I see are generic terms like "sniper", "bandit" or "survivor". What made me really suspicious is that once someone called me by name while I was driving a car. He needed help and somehow knew I was close to him, but he had no idea I was in car. How is that possible? He could not have spotted me before calling for help. Is it a hack to shows all the players on the map? -
I'm a lone wolf and objectively, I have nothing to gain from being a good guy. Being a bandit means you die less often, because you shoot first and never risk being backstabbed. Plus you sometimes get good loot from dead bodies. Good guys get...a plaid shirt? WTF. If there was a significant reward or advantage to helping others, more players would do it.

Wow...the best backpack in the game and a DMR right at the beginning, you are one lucky bastard.
