How do backpacks work since the latest patch?
Leto (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Are they supposed to have separate weapon slot like tents en vehicles? I have an alice backpack, which is now supposed to have 2 weapon slots. When I moved a gun in it with fewer than, it disappeared. -
What the hell is an epeen monitor?
-
That is a welcome change. The advantage of raiding crash sites in a vehicle vs on foot was ridiculous. Also, this puts an end to vehicle easily scouting for players by seeing zombies walking in an area.
-
Isn't that why we have the combat icon that flashes when you shoot, get shot at or get chased by zombies? The abort timer seems redundant.
-
What was a nuisance when I started playing the game was that I couldn't drink water while standing in a pond, with empty cans in my inventory.
-
Is the 30 seconds timer before being able to click on abort part of the new patch? It says 30 seconds, but it so slow it's more like a minute. It bit irritating when you have to stop playing. What is it for?

On game design, "progression through equipment", and a system of micro-skills
Leto (DayZ) replied to GodOfGrain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think the appearance of the survivors should be the opposite: When you have nothing, you look thin, dirty and sick. Has you find supplies, gear and transportation, you start looking healthier and cleaner. -
There is NO WAY you can get such a tight pattern over 100 meters with a shotgun. No matter the choke on your barrel and shot wad your shells are loaded with. Buckshots are meant to be fired at 25-30 meters. You can keep a tighter pattern with some shotshells (Federal FLITECONTROL) at 40 meters or so, but that's as far as you can get.

What is the best DayZ map so far?
Leto (DayZ) replied to Snowboarder's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I voted Taviana because it's where I had the most fun in the last few weeks, but it would be a lot better if it was slightly more post-apocalyptic. Everything looks too perfect and undammaged. -
You are comparing one of the worst first person view in videogames with 2 games that have mastered it. Playing COD, Battlefield, Red Orchestra, Far Cry, Bioshock or any Source engine FPS is nowhere near as annoying as the Arma II engine.

Spawn in random buildings/houses around the map
Leto (DayZ) replied to Trunk Yeti's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like this idea, because the routine of spawning on the shore, then going to elektro/cherno gets old after a while. -
Taviana, how good is it??
Leto (DayZ) replied to richjones19772000's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I like Taviana , it's a different feel from Chernarus. It looks like it's only been days since the apocalypse. Everything is mostly intact, the roads wide, straight and free of wrecks and blockades. Because of that, driving on Taviana is a lot more fun than on Chernarus. Going off-road is not mandatory, so even the crappy cars are fun to drive. It's also easy to hide a car on Taviana. On the other hand, if you don't have a car, the map can be really boring as it takes forever to get around on foot. The walls and fences surrounding many buildings will annoy the hell out of you. Also, the off-shore oils rigs or islands where teams can safely land their choppers seem a bit cheap. On some servers, all the choppers and boats can be hoarded away from the mainland. Overall, it's a lot easier than Chernarus because there are so many vehicles and medium/high yield military buildings. Some city are also very easy to loot because the zombies are sparse, or sometimes they even get stuck and never come after you. -
If third person was removed from DayZ...
Leto (DayZ) replied to Imafighter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wouldn't mind ditching 3rd person if the first person view was good or decent, but with the current Arma II engine, it sucks. I looks like a game that is meant to be played in third person, and then someone hacked a first person view into it. -
I'd like it if you could load bicycles in any vehicle (that isn't a motorcycle or ATV)

v175 beta: meat issues [solved] [old]
Leto (DayZ) replied to Dayzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How can anyone seriously think that healing as a solo player is too easy? You need 3 tools (matches, hunting knife and a axe), a forest to harvest wood (not so easy on some maps), an animal (the cow which gives the most meat usually spawn on farms close to populated area) and a whole lot of space in your inventory (15 cooked meats to regain 12 000) . Then you need time to set up a fire and to manage your inventory while being exposed. It took me many lives and days of playing the mod before finally having everything I needed to cook my very first BBQ. Blood bags require 3 seconds to administer and they are easy to find when you know where too look. If regaining health "has to" be more difficult, then somehting needs to be done about blood bags as well. -

More civilians guns would be nice.

I have no idea what guys are talking about. I'm scared to die and to lose my gear. Unless my killer is an idiot, I can't imagine finding my gears after hiking back to where I died. Maybe some of you are very good at the game, but to most people, DayZ is still difficult.

The Most Peaceful Places On Chernarus
Leto (DayZ) replied to zqpmxn's topic in New Player Discussion
I like Krasnostav. It's the northernmost town with a supermarket. It's surrounded by forest and 3 big mountains, so it's easy to hide and also watch for activity before you go shopping. The NE airfield is the safest of the 3 and on some private servers, there is an extra barrack there. Most new players and fresh spawns never make it this far up north. It's also a good base when you want to hunt for camps or vehicles hidden in the northern forests and moutains. And close to the spawn point of the black SUV and 2 UAZ. Zelenogorsk is a close second. It's near the shore, but north of Kamenka where nobody likes to spawn, so you rarely meet people there. There are a lot of deer stand on the way to Zelenogorsk and around it. It's close to the western forest which is a safe way to travel all the way to the NWA. -
Better helicopter crash sites which are not linked to server reset.
Leto (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm sure everybody has noticed that whenever a server resets, there is a sudden and temporary influx of players who join so they can go loot new helicopter crash sites (usually the guys who fly helicopters). The reset also spawn fully functionnal biplanes that don't need to be repaired, so players log off at the airport, come back at the reset and hop on the fresh plane to scout and loot crash sites. This is a bit hokey. I would be nice if helicopter crashes were not linked to server resets and truly random. There could be a fixed number of crashes and every hour or so, one would disappear and be replaced by a new one elsewhere. It should only disappear if there are no players around (500 meters?), to avoid the frustration of seeing a helicopter vanish as you are about to loot it. -
I wear a ghillie suit so I can hide better from players trying to kill me, not because I want to kill them.
-
It is rare. Keep it and wear it. It's the best skin in the game. Not only does it allows you to hide easily in vegetation, but it also hides your backpack, which is probably the first thing that gives you away over long distances. It doesn't matter if wearing a ghillie makes others shoot you on sight. Bandits and nervous survivors will shoot you 99% of the time anyway even if all you got is your starting kit.

Some Suggestions and Changes for Immersion
Leto (DayZ) replied to Clumzy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't think the SKS should be rare. -
There are many ways to implement blood regen without going down the COD road. It's a million times more realistic than unrefrigerated post apocalyptic blood bags that can be used in the field and instantly brings you back to perfect health.

They finally got it right with dayz+, what do you think? (POLL)
Leto (DayZ) replied to thelonewarrior's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I tried it and didn't like it. The zombies are too glitchy and buggy as it is. Making them do more damage is just aggravating. By the time you realise a zombie is hitting you thru a wall, your vision already has fading colors. Also, on the server I tried, the fire station in cherno had been turned into some sort of fortress that you couldn't enter. I think that is just really lame, if the only reason to build structures is to annoy the hell out of others, It's not a good feature.
