  1. That's one of the sets of error messages I got a lot of when trying to get Lingor installed, myself. After that, it was missing/deleted content. I haven't tried Commander yet, but I did get it working with Six Updater: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/87240-how-to-get-lingor-to-run-when-youre-always-kicked-for-content-that-has-been-deleted-like-brg-africa-or-chn-crocodile-six-updater-tutorial/
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzqHEm2oY6U ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Short version of the original post: If, like me, you just can't get Lingor to work (getting kicked with a complaint about missing/deleted content) despite following all the tutorials to the letter, you CAN get it to work if you use SIx Updater to find and download some additional mods. Specifically, the things that are being complained about being missing or deleted. The video shows how. Hopefully this'll help a few people that are still having problems..
  3. Ok, got the tutorial uploaded and edited the OP. I guess its also a general "How to use Six Updater to install Lingor" video, but my intent was to address the specific issue I couldn't find any info about, and which I saw lots of other people have - getting kicked for similar errors about missing/deleted content!
  4. Wait, hold on.... Is this.. someone using the correct form of this phrase? On the INTERNET!?
  5. I never really had problems setting the Steam command line parameters, but yeah I'm just using the Launch Beta shortcut for now. This way, launching OA through Steam I can keep the overlay. Might set up a Lingor shortcut too, add it to Steam as an external application or something. Either way, I got the initial draft made and have some edits to make but it should go up tonight. (Lesson learned - if you're monitoring the Aero desktop to record video, it just records the desktop and not any application launched on top of it.)
  6. If its fixed, then no. If it remains as-is, then yes. By "fixed", I mean any of the following: Much more rare Players able to vault over - still blocks zombies and slows down (and temporarily disarms) humans trying to get past it Easier to remove Toolboxes more common Much wider and easier to see/find area that brings up the tooltip Not requiring toolbox to remove
  7. Downloaded the latest, 96584 and it doesn't work. No specific rejection notice, just that connecting failed. Guess I'll try the lower one next time. For now I just wanna play.
  8. Heh.. actually, it was your set of instructions that I last tried before getting it to work using the six updater and enabling the extra expansions :D (and after the global-kill hacker that was going nutty on the server I was on last night, was going to try yours when next I play, if that's ok) Seriously, I have no idea what the problem is. My best guess is that its either Steam related, or that the 7zip doesn't match the torrent.
  9. Maybe I wasn't clear... THAT DOES NOT WORK I don't know if its related to it being a Steam installation or what, but following ANY of those directions inevitably results in being kicked from a the server, with a message complaining about missing content. Like I said, when I finally did get on, the message stream on the bottom left of the screen was filled with nothing but spam of people having the exact same problem, with the exact same files missing. Maybe one of the download files is missing important content, I don't know. I downloaded the 7zip file, not the torrent. Maybe that's it. But I've been trying for days and finally got on last night, and that's what finally worked. I had to enable multiple other expansions, or else get kicked for missing content. I appreciate that you'd assume I hadn't tried your suggestion, but believe me I have. And your instructions don't work. (edit for no-need-to-be-so-angry)

    FORUM BEING FIXED

I dunno why it was bumped, but the first thing I noticed when going to the forums today was that its WAY faster than its been in weeks. Haven't been to the forums in a few days so I don't know when it happened, but whatever was recently fixed has made a difference!
  11. I got a multipack of those small Diamond brand match boxes for a camping trip last year. Every time I see one of those little red boxes sitting somewhere I get excited for a moment and want to loot them. Also, there's a small open field next to a road that's surrounded by forest and has one large tree/shrub in the center. I drive by it fairly regularly. And every time I look at this uphill field leading to the forest I can't help but think about how much I don't want to cross it, and the sprint from forest to shrub to forest that would be required.

Death every time I get something nice

I will say, the last patch or two made it dramatically easier to lose a zombie, since line of sight seems to be used a lot more accurately. For example, you get some aggro and you're near the forest, try to find a thicket of pine trees. Charge right into them, and try to find some kind of other cover on the other side. Maybe another patch of pine trees. Maybe a shrub. Hell, tall grass works. Just get some distance between you and the thicket of pine trees you first blew through and go prone. Keep crawling away, peferably towards more cover, and the zombies will stumble through the trees, lose aggro for a moment, and try to figure out where you are. If they don't pick you back up (such as if you were still sprinting full-tilt and very visible), they give up and just keep doing their zombie thing. Smoke grenades and flares don't seem to do anything anymore though..

    Potential Graphical Artifacting Fixes

ATI 6950. Can't install Tray Tools because my computer is convinced its a malware downloader and blocks it. Also, the flush command more often than not makes the artifacting multiple times worse. BUT... I set HDR to "High" and haven't seen any artifacting since. Not saying its definitely fixed, since I haven't gotten to play a whole lot, not to mention the artifacting varies server to server, but its been a noticeable change.
  14. I never understood that having/eating cake analogy. In what circumstance would you ever not eat a cake that you had? (assuming non-poisonous) Also, tiramisu is awesome. And some word is better than no word, so I'm fine with waiting a bit longer!

    DayZ Stories

Funny how these things work. Hadn't played in a couple weeks, largely due to suddenly having a life. Tried logging in a couple times, but always got stuck on Loading, and always gave up. Anyway, finally got in to my regular server, wasn't teleported to the coast, was actually pretty far north and west, next to a hill. So.. ok, great. Sure, check out NWAF, why not. Crept around, super-paranoid. Keeping an eye on the zombie counter and if there seemed to be any new distant ones. Got to the northern barracks, nothing but a few AK's. Closed the main door to wait for a zombie to continue walking by. Middle-clicked to open the door and *CRACK* "AUGH!", I'm on the ground with a broken leg. My heart is three times its normal pace, I'm crawling back, trying to figure out where I'm under attack from. But.. my health is still full. And why is this random inside door now closed? And I realized "Well, shit. That click closed the inside door on my leg, which wasn't anywhere near the door". And I shook my head. I had no morphine. A friend of mine was online and headed to the area, so I crawled around a bit, explored for awhile, and logged out under the stairs in the control tower to wait for him. Couldn't see a damn thing anyway, was artifacting so bad. It was around the time I logged back in that I realized that artifacting may have had at least ONE benefit... Not really sure what happened to Random Dead Guy in the middle of NWAF. There weren't that many people on the server, which actually made me pretty apprehensive about being there at all - that's when people tend to go there. But there were no snipers or people nearby other than my teammate. When I logged back in, and I think I read about this in one of the troubleshooting threads, the artifacting was completely gone. I could see perfectly. So... Random Dead Guy. My best guess is that he couldn't see anything either and stumbled upon some hungry nasties and got himself knocked out and eaten. Which sucks for him. But for me? Was like f'ing Christmas Morning! I looted my first ever NVG, Rangefinder, Ghillie Suit, GPS, and M4A3 CCO! Already had a Cotote Backpack and Military Flashlight so didn't take those, but I filled in all the other blanks - map, compass, toolbox, entrenching tool, blood bag, a few morphines, a couple cooked meats (already had a few of those too), plenty of ammo. I think he had a G23 or something, but I like my M1911 just fine so I kept it. I dunno what killed you, Random Dead Guy. Maybe it was a sniper. Maybe artifacting got you eaten. Hell, maybe you went AFK from a family emergency. But thank you. You made my day.
  16. Other people I know have had the same thing happen. In all cases, it was someone on a vehicle that got kicked with a BattleEye message about Script #55. Happened to get it on video: Dunno if its a game issue or server issue, this was on.. US 1340?
  17. This was my original plan, but then realized that if I just output the headphone jack on my laptop to the microphone jack on the computer, I can use the laptop's onboard microphone (set the playback mixer to play the microphone input) and have an entirely separate interface with which to use fun things like soundboards and youtube videos. You're welcome and I'm sorry, as the case may be.

Having watched the video, I learned some things. First, FRAPS doesn't do well with low contrast dusk timeframe sort of video. Even though on my screen it was getting kind of hard to see, in the recorded video it was pitch black, everything but sky. Second, the guy was a better shot than I gave him credit for originally. Not that he had good aim (he landed two of around 14 shots), but he didn't go full-auto like it seemed at the time - he did a decent job of using bursts. Anyway, if you wanna watch the ugly finale to my story, here you go:

    DayZ De-Motivational Posters

I had lots of ideas of Beanz and Gunz photos and captions I could make, but there were too many to choose from. So I made a handful of 640x480 Beanz&Gunz templates for you guys instead, featuring some items that (more or less) appear in game. http://s72.photobuck...Gunz_templates/ Example, http://imgur.com/Sf3LP :

    DayZ Stories

Northeast airfield last night, we ride in on a flatbed and look around for some loots. We're in constant communication, giving positional updates including which entrances and exits are being covered, you know. There's the sound of engines, we lock down. There's some gunfire exchanged, and our visitors decide to leave. I'm in the air control tower covering the stairwell and don't see anything. We resume looting. Awhile later, there's some more gunfire and a few of the boys head down the hill to face the attackers. I'm inside a hangar at the time and work my way to the top of the hill, not knowing exactly where everyone is. The two remaining guys take off with the flatbed. I go prone at the top of the hill and look down. Sunset is rapidly turning to dusk and things are starting to get hard to see. I am able to see muzzle flashes down the hill, but no definite fix on location or whose flashes I'm seeing. I continue to provide coverage from up above, in case they decide to fall back. A couple of our guys are killed, a couple of their guys are killed. There's no gunshots for awhile but someone's bleeding out down there.. I run to the bottom of the hill into the thin treeline and go prone. I hear growling all around and wait for the zeds to pass by. I end up waiting a long time - one of the zeds was stuck half in the ground, attached to a tree, right next to where I was hiding which is why I kept hearing such loud growls. My fallen comrades couldn't give me an exact fix on their most recent location, but it was near town, possibly inside. They were happy with the fight and had no regrets. Better a firefight than a physics glitch breaking your limbs, knocking you out, and aggro'ing every zombie in town. I'm now the only one left. Its gone from rescue to assassination. Pretty sure I know which direction they are, so I started making my way around to behind their location. Eventually I made my way to the end of the treeline, sprinted across the short field, entered the forest to the left of town. At this point, its already been 10-15 minutes and its likely the opposing team had already left. On the other hand, they had one more vehicle than living teammates, so might have been guarding the area waiting for them to get back. I creep along the treeline, trying to see any motion that's not zombie. There's an embankment that prevents seeing directly into town, so I continue circling the long way around to hopefully surprise them from behind. I consider logging, since its starting to get really hard to see and is getting pretty risky. Its unknown if they have NVG, but If they were spotted, the plan was to flare the area around them - they're lit up and can't use NVG, I'm still hidden. But.. like I said, its starting to get REAL hard to see, and I'm not sure I should even move forward instead of just calling it quits for the night. I decide to advance a little bit further and at least see past this embankment. I raise up to a crouch jog and move a little deeper into the forest, still running parallel to the road. That's when I stepped on the prone guy with a SAW. They were covering much further out than I'd anticipated. And visibility was worse than I thought. I hear gunfire, the snap of riccochets, the crunch of my leg, the grunt of pain, the forst floor crunching as I was forced prone. I don't think he had NVG, because he would have opened fire long before he did. And he wouldn't be continuing to fire directly overhead. I spun around and pointed my gun at the muzzle flashing. For some reason, it was important to me to bring up the Aimpoint, to put the dot on target before firing. In hindsight, I should have just spun and rapidly fired. I had time to get the dot on his head before SNAP... green table/spreadsheet screen. Still showed 6500 health, but I'm guessing it was a pretty quick death. The thing that makes me cringe is not just that I almost logged juust in time, but how absolutely outgunned I was and that he was a bad enough shot that I still COULD have won that match if I'd have just fired instead of waiting for the ironsights to come up. Just didn't think as quickly as I needed to. Haven't been in that many firefights yet, so hopefully this lesson will provide useful in the future. Hats off to the group that kicked our asses. We got a couple of them, sure, but they also retained all the corpses and therefore the loots. And boy, did we have some loots. I'm not someone who gets to play a lot these days. And my luck is.. abnormally bad in this game. My average lifespan sees fewer guns than leg breaks. This guy was several days old though, and had managed to collect some stuff, thanks to being in the same region as friends and being able to hunt in a party. His death lost literally everything you can get outside of the super-rare items like GPS/NVG or heli/barracks weapons (never owned any of them). This includes hand and smoke grenades, Coyote backpack, all the survival equipment, cooked meats, toolbox, entrenching tool, military flashlight, all of it. Also, the best weapon I ever had, M14-AIM. Didn't find it, was given to me. Had a PDW and tons of ammo, plus a M1911 in the backpack. All in all, its unlikely I'll ever be this geared up again. But.. I really don't care as much as I thought I would. I guess the mantra of "don't get attached to your equipment" actually sunk in. I think the only thing I'll really miss is my compass. Can never find those damn things. (And I get turned around so easily..) Now I'm back on the coast somewhere, unarmed, no supplies. Maybe when I get to play again my guys will still have the flatbed, and maybe there will be some stuff in the trunk for me. I'm not holding my breath, though. Guess its time to start the long haul again. Maybe this time I'll find a GPS...

This is a simulator not a game.

Given that you "play" this "simulator", saying its not a game is like saying "That's a square, not a rectangle!"

    Spread The Word: Surrender Key

Have some beans, sir. That takes care of item #2... http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/9162-thoughts-on-bandits-rp-the-sandbox-and-non-murder-crime/
  23. Personally, I'd blast Bicycle from Queen whenever I was on a bicycle inside city limits. I mean, its not like it'd get me any MORE killed than I would just for committing the act of being inside a city, but at least I'd spread a smirk or two on my way out.
  24. I mean... you chug an entire bottle of Tylenol, you're not gonna be feeling very well for very long. Multiple times over the course of a day? You're talking imminent liver failure, which maybe the morphine could counter, but you'd still pass out and die eventually. Just sayin', it kinda makes sense to have it set up more like ammo, where it has so many uses before being empty. Same with canteens. Who chugs an entire canteen at once? You're supposed to sip. If the rate of thirst needs to be increased to balance, that's fine. Just irks me to have single use of a water source. Makes no sense. Anyway, whatevs. Not really important, just something that was on my mind. Cheers!
