Today is a sad day for me

There are 1522 regular DayZ servers on commander atm. You telling me there is not at LEAST 30 of them that are plain vanilla? If you don't like the current mods, no one is forcing you to play them, but there is a reason Epoch is popular right now. It has all the features SA is supposed to have + more. Weight management system, repair/salvage vehicles etc. Try US2254 , It's one of my favorite regular servers. Not a true vanilla, but close.
  2. Private hives have evolved the game. There are MANY private hives that have made the game more difficult and faster paced, while providing much more of an end-game with base building etc. Our server is rigorously policed by our active admins, we have 3 different types of anti-hack running, and have made the game what WE want it to be. No one is forcing you to play on it, or any server. There are many really well documented vanilla servers with great active admins who run them fairly. Truth is as everyone says private hives saved the mod. For instance, there are many mods out there that increase damage from zeds, have much better pathfinding AI, have removed and fixed many bugs the actual dev team for the alpha has ignored. The great thing about it is we are all having fun, and as it is now, there is a DayZ for everyone's taste, from vanilla to the wild 1500 heli servers, and everything in between. You take that away, and I think you will be surprised at the outcome.

What I want to see in the standalone

I want to see the 50 or so most vocal retards play on their own server so the rest of us can enjoy DayZ. With fun weapons. And unicorns. Maybe ponies. Truth is the game will need to be handled at the server level like it was originally, no custom loadouts, no hacked in weapons. I'd like to see them just add in a mega zed or 3 that you NEED something with some punch to kill. Make the ammo for high powered weapons rare enough that you would want to save your M107 ammo for that fucking big ass zed instead of burning it on some dude running up to NWAF. Have it drop something good with limited use, like the gauss rifle with only 3 shots or something...makes it worth it to kill but would not screw over game balance. We all have our opinions on what would make it epic...it will be interesting to see where they actually take it.
  4. Don't you play on a BB server Apple? You know, the one that you agree to be on TS when you play on their server? As far as fairness is concerned, we offer free use of our TS on our 2 top ranked DayZ servers. If people choose not to use it, then so be it. If you refuse to use TS and you play with other people in a group, and you meet a group that is using it, you will be disavantaged to some extent. DayZ being what it is however, I lonewolf alot and have overcome groups using it fairly easily with firepower and solid tactics. Having the jump on someone gives you a huge advantage. So no, I do not believe that people using 3 party communication is cheating. You forcing yourself to not use it is your perogative, and I respect that, but don't try and force your opinion on me, for I do not share it.
  5. This old thing again eh? There are many hunting rifles that they could put in that would still kill you in one shot if they approximate any sort of realism. As far as who uses what and all that crap repeated over again, do a internet search, you'll find many utube videos and information on .50 cal sniper rifles in action. Much to the dismay of many of the vocal posters here, they still deploy .50 cal weapons on a regular basis, it's actually one of the Marines' most popular sniper weapons. If Rocket takes them out, so be it, I'll still play it for a bit. But most likely the mod itself will outshine the SA then, after all without the mini gear grind all you have is a sandbox full of COD kiddies. To tell the truth it's my opinion that if there were no ability to spawn in these weapons and no way for server owners to modify the gear loadouts you would see alot less grumbling about them...they were pretty damn rare in the real Vanilla version. Before the hackers hit.

    Wind and ballistics system

I have doubts that it will be realistic in any fashion. Time after Time it's been revealed that windage ballistic models in video games are always just a random variable added since there is no real accurate way to simulate any sort of actual gauge, either through a tool or "lickin your finger". Most likely, after seeing the actual quality produced by the current volunteers, it will just piss everyone off and make long range weapons practically useless. Most people I know playing the mod at this point have lost faith in the development direction and are waiting for SA.

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

Since you are calling me out I'll respond. That Barret has a harness that supports it and the ammo, so as to distribute the balanced weight accordingly. Your example of spitting mauls shows exactly how stupid you really are if you think carrying a weapon and ammo is anything like carrying 5 unwieldy tools. Sorry you spent most of your life in your Mom's basement and can't conceive how a full grown man could actually carry that weapon, without much overdue exertion, for many miles. You are certainly not running anywhere fast, I'll grant you that, but just to move it around with you is not that daunting when you've spent a lot of time hunting in real life. I certainly would want a weapon that can shoot a mile out accurately in a real life scenario, having that much advantage is almost like cheating, except that you'd still have to have the skills to use it. Certainly the ArmA engine is not overly sophisticated, but it does a fair job at sim'n bullet drop etc. I'll challenge you to fraps proof that you can so easily hit a moving target with one in game, at max range like you claim "it's point and click". I'll volunteer, just tell me your server and I'll act as the rabbit.
  8. Buy it. Hours and hours of fun and exploration with just the DayZ maps and mods, much more even with the ArmA mods. After the shock of actually learning how to play DayZ wore off, try Namlask, brings back the suspense in spades ! Just DO IT. You will not regret it.

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

My 8mm Mag weighs 22 lbs. I would wager a bet that in real life a CZ weighs close to that. I am 265 lbs and have been lugging a 40-60 lb pack around hunting with that and other 20-25 lb weapons for years. I would not even blink at carrying that SUPER HEAVY 30 lb barret. So if you are talking realism about "who would lug something like that around?" not all of us are 100lb pasty faced weakings. I have no problem with them being rare, but sure as the sun shines if you have a military base, you are going to have a plethora of equipment for every specialty to resupply, and thousands upon thousands of rounds of ammo. Just be honest and say that you don't want 1 shot weapons in game, stop hiding behind "realism" because that argument is obviously not going to work. I think personally that weapon balance will never be achieved...because some people are just better shots than others...I can headshot you with a DMR from 800 yrds just as easy as gut shoot you with an AS50 at 1600. I've seen people that can headshot with almost anything at near the maximum range, player skill will always fuck with balance when you have any long range weaponry as some players are just so much better shots than the average player.

    Skilled Vs Unskilled bandits

So lets see. You were knowingly out in the open, not using cover and were shot. You knew about the rocks across from the airfield but still did not check them before looting? Sounds like you really are conflicted, you want to be able to loot easily because someone will not shoot you due to some fictional code of honor that you desire. But it also sounds like you want this game to be harder and have more work/skill to it so why don't you try this: go hunt the sniper in the spot before you try and loot shit out in the open. It does 2 things, gives you get the harder game you want AND allows people to play it how they like for their own 20 bucks.
  11. Most people you would ever meet in real life could not hit the broadside of a barn with a gun, nor would they be familiar enough with ranged weaponry to know the many different forms of how to even load it if they found one. Video games = tweenys gone wild because they can act all "clockwork orange" on people without someone slapping the holy shit out of them for even pointing that gun at them. Sandbox games like this mod can be fantastic and horribly annoying depending on who you encounter, just like in real life. Only difference is that in real life, myself and my group of close friends are avid shooters with our own personal collections. We would be fine. The majority of society in a real scenario? No so fine. But yea, the KOS issue would depend on a lot, as you age if you are intelligent you learn to trust your instincts, you usually can detect mental cases a mile off. So in answer to your question, it would really depend on the situation at the time, in a rushed scenario, in an actual crisis, I'd certainly shoot first and ask questions later. My safety and my family/friends are foremost over everything else.

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

You people sure are blind. High powered weaponry is found everywhere. I personally own several hunting rifles that would kill you in 1 shot, no head shot needed. My 8mm Weatherby Mag hits with 3800 foot pounds of energy at 800 yrds. It would put a hole coming out of your back the size of a basketball if I gut shot you with it. You talk about realism but the fact remains military loot would be astoundingly present in any actual scenario like a real Zed Apocalypse, because there are huge stores of such equipment out there on the actual bases. I can see them making them hard to acquire due to balancing issues, don't get me wrong, but honestly your comments about realism being the reason are certainly fantasy. In the real world guns are tremendously tough, to damage one takes a lot of force, dropping it on the ground via death throws from being eaten etc would hardly effect most weapons. I would be happy to see them focus on having to learn things like crafting ammo for weapons of such high caliber as a balancing tool rather than just eliminating them all together, as of now they are the only real "endgame" that is forseeable and that exists currently. And before you say it no, I do not hunt fresh spawns with my M107. However I do enjoy using it to kill other snipers who do. It took a significant amount of time to actually find one and learn to use it, would I still desire it if it took me 10x longer? Hell yes. That's what makes it exciting. You can only get that feeling of terror and rush of victory in a game like this where you stand to loose everything, hours and hours of playtime, in a heartbeat on a bad decision. I love this mod.
  13. They already did this, it's called Darkfall. It was mildly successful, but after most players found out they could be raided by people who don't have a life they mostly quit. Nothing like working for months to build a city then loose it at 3 am to a bunch of college kids without a life....lol. Besides there was rampant cheating going on..but that's not the point. Point is what you are dreaming about is terribly hard to make happen with the cost of bandwidth these days...

    RMod?

    Thanks for the info !
  15. Ioncannon

    RMod?

So I DL'd RMod last night to try out a new server, I changed my command line in Commander to add the ;@rmod syntax. After playing a bit I decided to head to my home hive and did not change anything...I logged right in with no problems...it's a normal Dayz server. So if you have Rmod loaded you can play both Rmod and regular servers... just not vice versa? My question is was this normal behavior or will I need to change the launch perimeters again?
