Daytime servers are always overloaded.
Malaclypse replied to DaPessimist's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Love the night-time, personally. I'm the opposite. If it's day, I'm moving to a server where it's night 9 times out of 10. Chemlights work fine, and if the moon is out those aren't even needed usually, no gamma/brightness adjustments required. -
A murder, depending on the shots plugged into the guy, can lower humanity quite a bit more than a kind act (transfusion, bandaging, etc). I propose that these things be a bit more equalized, either by decreasing the amount of "negative" humanity gained from murders, or by raising the amount of "positive" humanity gained from healz. It's far to easy to gain negative humanity as opposed to positive. Added to this, do-away with the passive humanity regen entirely, or keep the regen up until a certain threshold (-3000 as an example). I understand that part of the reason for the regen is likely to give a new player or someone who killed in self-preservation a second chance, but it is, and I'm saying this as a survivor, very unfair for bandits to have their reputation fluctuate in accordance with something not based on their actions in game save for the fact that they're mobile.

Fell victim to hacker at 7:15AM CST approx, sent email to dayzdevteam, next time I died I respawned with all the stuff I had before the server was hacked. I move to cover, log off to eat, log back in on a different server, and I spawn in Cherno, bleeding to death with only a revolver. Watlol.

Patch 1.5.7 and this being an Alpha and fucking zombie spawns
Malaclypse replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Loving the patch- the new zombie sounds are great, and the increase in zeds is a complete 180 from the severe lack of zeds before- they're actually, like other players, a threat now (and not just in the annoyance/giving away position sense). Smoke grenades and other thrown distracting agents are much more useful now (don't toss out those empties yet, boys), and camping high-traffic areas for player kills now comes with serious consequences, and will hopefully lead to more savvy bandits tracking people OUT of these areas and ganking them in the woods or fields more often. Can't wait to see where panic (I currently lose my shit when I piss off like, one monkey) and temperature systems go! Some suggestions/ideas that others have touched on: -With more zombies + faster spawns, slower speeds (think fast shuffling or lurching but not dead walks) on a portion of the zombies would be pretty rad. Keep runners in the mix, "monkeys" too, but basically diversify the portfolio of zombos we encounter at some point at least in their speed aspect. Thanks for all the hard work you've put into this awesome game, man, happy 31st. -
Holy crap! It's a donation thread for Chicago 1!
Malaclypse replied to Mojo (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
We all died on Chicago 1 just now, 7:15PM CST, then the server went down. -
If anything I'd like an even larger map.
-
I had to murder them to survive, bro! I couldn't just ask them for some extra supplies. I find it highly unlikely that anything more than 10% of player kills are for direct survival (food, water, bandages) purposes. Not that I'm against people killing for sport or non-survival purposes, but let's cut the shit and call a spade a spade instead of pussyfooting around it: most player kills aren't because of a lack of survival supplies, but because of boredom or just being a covetous dink and wanting a larger backpack/different weapon.
-
There is no issue with bandits. Though having the wilderness areas of the map be more of a threat would be rad. Running across a bear or a wolf pack or something.

Yeah that seems like too much of a straight up punishment for bandits. It should come with pros and cons, same for having extremely high karma. High Karma might spawn you with, say, a crossbow, bolts, food, medical supplies to help others, and low karma might spawn you with somewhat less blood, lack of medical supplies, one ration of water, no food, but a better starting pistol or, say, an enfield. Something along those lines, anyway- it can't be a straight punishment, because there isn't anything patently wrong with playing as a bandit. Overall the gear spawn for various levels of humanity above and below the default could be different from the default in various ways, but should equal out to that level of starting in some other arrangement of stats/gear.

My friend logged in today in a bush pretty far from any major towns (somewhere north of Gvozdno, south of the dam) and got popped before he could even move his character. Owned.

This should really go into general discussion or an off-topic forum rather than suggestions, due to how patently absurd it is. PVP is fine. People slinking around the woods trying to avoid PVP is fine. Cry-babby's are OP.

Decide what you want to eat/drink
Malaclypse replied to pontusjohansson's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You drink whatever is higher up in your inventory. Easy to decided what order you eat and drink stuff in, takes about 30 seconds of pack management. Doesn't need to be made easier, people just need to be educated as to how it functions. -
I solved this issue by buying a separate, non-steam copy of ArmaII and Operation Arrowhead.

I'd say, get into it. Stalk your prey for a long time without being seen. If possible, wait for him to go afk or look at a map and rob his pack without him noticing- real bandit skills are stealing without ever having to fire a shot. Or follow a group around from it's beginning, forming on the sandy shores of Chernarus, traveling inland, finding better guns, ammo, talking to eachother in side-chat about their next move. Watch them find a tent and set up camp, watch them bring vehicles back to said camp in time. Raid it when they leave!

USELESS TENTS - stuff inside gets deleted
Malaclypse replied to drakenof's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Ahahaha. I went back into the server after logging off because I read the forums after I play, and quick hopped back on to grab the loot out of our tent + tent. We thought someone had just been ROBBING us at our old location. As I was running the loot from our tent to our nearby GAZ someone shot at me! Holy shit! It turned out to be one of my buddies who had also just logged back on without getting into Teamspeak, thinking I was some random near the cars. Good times! -
Only one respawn an hour IMO. Deal with it. Keep PVP.
-
Isn't it just double left click to place a marker? Also, I believe that the visibility of the markers has to do with what chat channel you're in. Global, Party, and Side will show them to everyone, and Direct is just you.
-
Disagree. My friends and I have spawned all over the map from eachother, and even after the tent/vehicle wipe of 1.5.4 have managed to find one another with relative ease (browser maps of Chernarus are rad) even during the night, and set up a camp with vehicles floating around. I will admit that it's somewhat more difficult to meet up with other pubby players, but again, browser maps or just having a good existing knowledge of Chernarus are rad. I've seen countless groups of randoms locate eachother over side-chat, work together to move north, and ultimately get ganked by the Bandits who were working together to follow them!

Yooo, in game handles are Malaclypse, Pest, and Helper, mostly Pest these days. I play mostly on Dallas 1 with a group of guys who I'm a part of from another user-mod-game-thing, and will often go out of my way to help you other survivors out with Pills and other medical supplies. Slowly getting a camp built with my bros, can't wait for it to be raided like the other times!

What happens if you on a boat/helicopter and the server crashes
Malaclypse replied to Baskerville (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In 1.5.3 whenever I was driving a vehicle and the server restarted (twice) I would get warped to the coast and all of my passengers would remain at the vehicle (though on the outside of it). In 1.5.4 I appear to not warp to a beach anymore when the server restarts, and wind up next to the vehicle with my comrades! Yay! Though this is only with cars, I haven't been in a whirlybird when a restart occurs. -
Pull up a sandbag! Its story time!
Malaclypse replied to RoaR (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Server: Dallas 1 Time: Late Night/Early Morning I had been moving north from the coast for a few hours, starting West of Cherno in Komarova. I hit up Balota quickly, found a primary, and made my way East. My final destination was Novy Sobor, because it seems like I often find Compasses, Maps, Bags etc there. It was a pretty uneventful trip, passed through Nadezhino and Mogilevka as I headed east, then made north for Novy. The place was crawling with zeds, but otherwise seemed quiet. No-one else around, no corpses laying about- a safe in-and out trip. I made my way in, crawled around the zeds, wound up getting a full accoutrement of supplies for my utility belt as well as a Czech bag, food, water, ammo. I was in the church with the doors closed, re-arranging items in my pack in a corner, when I swear to god I heard a chopper in the distance. I figured it was just my ears playing tricks on me, and continued my task. The next time I heard it there was no mistaking it. There was DEFINITELY a helicopter circling over Novy, shining it's lights down, riling up all the zeds. I felt that at any second I would be raided by 5 fully armed commandos with NVG's, here for my precious Goat Steaks. I thought it had maybe landed, but I guess it just flew away. I cautiously exited the church, crouch-walking to avoid alerting the nearby zeds. Then I heard it again, bearing down from the SW, I went prone, scared shitless as the light shone down all over the town. I crawled to some nearby brush cover and observed it make a few loops, rile up all the zeds, and headed west. I crouched up, walked to the edge of town, and ran as fast as I could till I hit dense forest. Still shaken from the experience. Who were those men in the chopper? What was their intent? Should I have lit a flare to call for aide, or was I right to remain cautious? I continued bearing NE, Gorka being my destination. I made it there in the dark without a hitch, didn't dare pop a flare though I used a few chemlights in the woods. Gorka seemed like a bust. Nothing really there, just a shed with some metal parts and an old motorcycle next to i- AN OLD MOTORCYCLE!? I immediately hopped on, turned on the lights, and started blasting down the south road into the Black Forest, attracting a few zeds on the way. But I was moving at a blazing 17 speed! That's almost as fast as I can run! And they didn't appear to be able to hit me. At one point in Mr. Toad's Wild Ride I had the sucker up to 43 speed, yet the zeds pursued. I didn't make it incredibly far down the road before I found out why it was going so slow most of the time. So THAT'S what Fuel and Tire being highlighted with red meant. The hog died on an uphill road, flipped over, appeared to start on fire- I was knocked out and eaten by zeds, haha. No regrets. -
Came to play a mod where I team up, help others, maybe deal with a legitimate bandit (killing to gain gear, provisions), but instead I wind up getting spawnkilled for what, some starter pistol rounds, maybe some beans/water if the killer even bothers to loot the corpse. That strikes me as pretty bogus, and on my end is really frustrating. People with less patience than myself will probably leave the mod, even though it has so much promise and potential to break into something really great. Though on the subject of "legitimate" banditry, everything in Chernarus is currently stocked to the brim. There's enough for everyone to have, there's no need for have-nots, and what we can accomplish together is, as in the real world, greater than what we can accomplish alone. There is no real reason not to work together, and those who aren't at least interested in it if not practicing it actively are sociopaths that can respawn. Personally, I'll never shoot anyone on purpose (I winged a buddy of mine on accident due to latency issues, sorry man). I don't have it in me, even if they're shooting at me. Not in this mod, anyway, because I feel that is contrary to the intent of it. But I'm not exactly looking for buddies anymore, either, because they'll probably just cap me in the back for some ammo instead of just asking me. And I think that sucks. I want to trust people, I want to actually work with them, really, man. I will say it's very refreshing to see people out, offering help to others (the Red Cross brigade members that I've seen on Dallas 1 are p-rad) instead of dropping everything in sight with no hint of simulated morality.
