You are clearly the chosen one. Seriously though, this belongs in the bugs section.

Double barrel shotgun seems a little...lame?
Budiak replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Growing pains. I see it as a move to have a few more options In starting weaponry. Its got some problems but search to see if there is a thread is the suggestion forum regarding this issue and make your case in the form of a suggestion. If you make a good case and people back it it may very well be implemented. -
I used to have the same problem. Turns out mine was due to a twitch in my thumb that would hit my touchpad. Others have said that it can be electronic interference with a wireless mouse and also alt+tabbing will sometimes cause it, I hear.

RAPE - adding an other psychological element
Budiak replied to nudelwalker's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Its a logical step seeing as how much support the sexual tension meter has gotten. People suggest shooting zombie children, shooting zombie women, friendly zombie towns, and masturbation. The alpha stars as a bug report, and now we are discussing whether or not you can Get a proper boner with only 3k blood. -
More Random Zombie Spawns, Moving Zombie Mobs
Budiak replied to catgut's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Thanks for considering the ramifications of your own suggestion and taking them seriously. You raised a point that hasn't been thought of yet- some towns just won't have as many. That is quite possible, because it represents the 'horde' idea. Wow. That actually makes a lot of sense. Zombies are like people. In society we follow the money, the Infected follow the food! Zombies should of course be dangerous, but the idea that even a town with three buildings in it is just as dangerous as Elektro is absurd. There's no reason for there to be 130 zombies pouring out of a town with three buildings and a barn. While right now you are correct, you can stay out of towns and live off of other players, it is not necessary at all. I frequently go into towns, purposely avoiding other players. With the above scenario you described, with some towns being only partially populated with Infected, it would be a balance between robbing/killing survivors and looting towns instead of only one or the other. The way I read your original post, I would only be able to survive by either killing survivors or by mounting platoon-sized raids on every town I saw. Neither sound like a lighthearted and relaxing evening, really. What you proposed in response to me seems more reasonable. -
Wishes DO come true!!

I've had this problem since day one and nobody ever believes me. I think it's the same thing you've got- the text appears and disappears while the game is still loading the video. Obnoxious.
-
You're right, it must be because of Fallout's total obscurity that nobody is jumping on board with your idea.

OP, have you read any of the forum at all? Seriously, I am asking this because I want to know how you could possibly have not seen this issue. Perhaps the others werent being clear.

More Random Zombie Spawns, Moving Zombie Mobs
Budiak replied to catgut's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This would, in effect, turn me into a KOS bandit overnight. If the zombies are too tough to go into town, then every single person I see is getting shot for sweet, sweet beans. FYI, I go out of my way to avoid people right now. Your idea would instantly change the way I play to exactly what you seek to cure. -
For reasons that should be self evident, you shouldn't be able to aim down iron sights with night vision either. It's just as impossible as looking through a scope. With that in mind, they should leave it the way it is.

Congratulations, you're the newest loot pile. Respawn.

Going inland to survive and excel takes effort and planning. That's why more experienced players and those who know the map better tend to go there. There is no distinction except for the distinction in our heads. The coast is more dangerous because people choose to play there. Large cities are always more dangerous. Large cities have more resources and are usually by bodies of water. The cities on the coast are only more dangerous because we are humans acting like humans.

They are infected human beings, the maker of the game has stated this and refers to them in changelogs as Infected. He stated in interviews that he finds 28 Days Later types more frightening. They're called Zombies in game...I don't know why. I think it should be changed. It's not tomato tomato. Undead and Infected are quite different. One is supernatural, one is scientific. I personally find the undead more frightening because you're dealing with things out of our control. But that is what I think people find more frightening about disease-related zombie horror- the fact that it is based on real-world possibility and that we may in fact cause it.
-
You are 100% correct but to avoid confusion I refer to the infected as Zombies because that's what they're called in the game and that's how the casual observer sees them. In fact, Rocket refers to them as Infected. I think I'm going to just start calling them that from now on. With a capital I.

By your logic, though, every person who sees you on the beach is simply thinking 'The instant I find a gun I'm shooting this guy and taking what little he has'. I don't think it changes anything about the nature of the people playing or how they plan to play. The game will be just as nasty as soon as people get what they are looking for. In fact, if two people band together on the beach with nothing but flashlights, and they enter a barn where there is one gun, I am certain that they are both going to mad dash for that Winchester and try to nab it first. Then we'll see their true nature come out, both sides of the coin. Even with no starting equipment I will choose to play solo. It changes absolutely nothing for me.

I think you've got a good idea but you came up with it for the wrong reasons. The reason to not have a useable weapon to begin with is not to coerce players into not shooting each other off the bat. The reason is to create desperation in the human being playing the game. Having a gun and no ammunition is one of those circumstances where you will be going through the 5 steps of grief over and over again until you either die or find ammo. That right now is created by starting with no equipment. It may very well change again. The purpose of the game is to elicit genuine emotional responses, not to coerce people into playing any particular way. With all that...spawning with a gun and no ammo would be reaaaallly annoying.

People die all the time but not necessarily because of environmental(zombies) deaths. People get into firefights all the time and often because they want to. These people die a lot. I am generally against any mechanic that would put players on uneven footing at the very beginning of the game. It is the one moment where everybody is equal. From that point on it's either the bean heaven or the meat grinder- your choice. Also, I found this game extremely difficult to begin with. I almost quit playing, but I understood the merits and stuck it out. It gets less frustrating for the most part.

So bandits have increased pheremone production? Bad foot fungus? No, wait, zombies can see auras. Can bandits wear crystals around their necks to counteract this? It's not subtle. It puts one style of play at a distinct disadvantage in comparison to others in regard to basic requirements to survive. To say that one class would interact with zombies differently on a basic level as a reaction to how they play, instaead of them choosing to interact with zombies a certain way, is classic classism. The only thing that should distinguish play styles is the styles of play. Digest that chiasmus. BTW ammo doesn't grow on trees...but it does tend to grow on survivors.

1: Children are protected in media. Violence against children would cause huge problems for BI. And they SHOULD be protected in the media. I have no interest in shooting a child regardless of their state of decomposition. 2: AGAIN. Zombies in this game are not undead ghouls. They are infected humans. Killed by zombies in this game means you have been savagely beaten to death and eaten. There is no reanimation. 3: See above post. 4: The starting loadout is still being tested. In the most recent patch the starting loadout was reduced. It may change again. Be patient. 5: Melee may be difficult and clunky in the Arma system, but I never understood that because military units are trained in hand to hand and bayonet fighting. There's got to be a way to swing a stick or whatever. Even if it is clunky, it's something rather than nothing. 6: Animals are rarely close enough to zombies to aggro them anyway. I did see a goat running in place on an airfield the other night, but that was just one time. But for the most part, I do think that if a cow wanders too close to zombies, they should rush it and chow down. This presents tactical scenarios and options as well as a bit of non game-breaking realism. And I think more boars should appear in forests. I see plenty of bunnies, but few boars.

No new releases until the hacks are fixed
Budiak replied to punisher_1's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree with Punisher to a degree here, in that I understand his frustration. But allow me this indulgence for a moment. I'm pretty new to the Arma community here, but I've known about it. It seems to me that Arma 2 has gotten a huge increase in players in a very short period of time, so these problems have arisen out of sheer popularity and numbers. Until recently they probably haven't had to deal with this B.S. because the only people who played the game were there for the game itself. Unfortunately with increased awareness and popularity comes a segment of the population that is less interested in the game and more interested in getting their rocks off any way they please. BI is responding to it, just not as fast as you want them to. If you give a damn about the game you'll go through the growing pains with them. From what I've gathered, this project is a far more organic game creation process than we are used to. We're quite literally all taking part in the creation of the game, openly, from start to finish. Good, bad, and ugly. -
An additional way to scavenge vehicle parts?
Budiak replied to Jerrah (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Oh, how delicious for someone to park their car outside of a town to loot and then come back to see it up on blocks. -
I understand that. Teaming up does not need any more benefits than it already offers. Also, it would have an impact on solo players by giving groups a greater advantage. That's why it's an incentive.
