  1. ...but that sort of out-of-the-box thinking is going to keep you alive in a DayZ kind of world. I think.
  2. I've never seen this preponderance of zombies everybody talks about.
  3. They could very well have been idiots. Or they got very sloppy, having thought that there couldn't have been anybody else around.

Poll: Do you play at night?

I actually prefer night. I only carry one pack of blue chemlights and I still have ten of them. The darker the night is obviously effects my gameplay, but in makes night play safer for lone wolves and often more productive.
  5. I've been alive about a week now, it's my third to last this long. I play alone. I've never been shot by a sniper. I don't fill my pack with blood bags and other stuff that requires another player. Careful movements, noise and light discipline, not using the same route twice, etc. I generally go whole multi-hour sessions without even seeing another player or getting zombies riled. I've only fired my M14 three times in anger(the rest of the times were negligent discharges). I avoid high density areas during the day. I don't cook at night. I avoid large open areas. I'll skirt the woodline for ten minutes to avoid it. I only hunt in very remote areas or boars in the forest. Most of the time if I spot a player I watch him and then book it the other way because I don't know who else is there or who he's talking to on Mumble. I can't tell you the last time I got attacked by a zombie that didn't hit me through a wall. I can't be the only one. I'm convinced that other players are learning how to survive. When the flood comes, I may have to turn into a much more aggressive player just to have freedom of movement.

    CROSSBOWS - Your opinion?

I found three of them in the same building once. I attempted to shoot a zombie with it at about 20 meters with the iron-ish sights and missed clear by a mile. I dropped it immediately and I've never picked one up again.

    LOOT in DEER STANDS

I found a glock 17 in one, Also an MP5 which I had to leave because there was no ammo and I had none on me. I did find an M24 in a deerstand with two loads of ammo. I left that in the barracks when I found an M4A1 CCO SD. I routinely find AK variants. In fact, one stand I found had an AKM and an AK-74u with a few mags each. Haven't seen anything like that in a while.

    Logged in behind someone

If I log in and someone is in the room, I immediately log out and find another server. If someone logs into my room and I notice, I aim my weapon on him and let him make the move. If he runs, he can go. If he logs out, same thing. If he points his gun at me, I get a backpack full of canned spaghetti. Cheap kills are cheap.
  9. I would likely stop playing if the only way to accomplish even the most basic tasks was to group. I can't speak for anybody else, but I really enjoy the freedom I have as a lone wolf, and I shouldn't be punished for playing this way. It's difficult as it is right now. There need to be options for all play styles. I do agree with more common weapons, like ranch rifles and hunting shotguns. I think that is what the winchester and Lee Enfield are supposed to represent.

How did he not see that thing coming? He deserved it.

    Rain refills

Good idea, dut. In a rainstorm even the most worthless little town infested with zombies could be useful. You could avoid big population centers and minimize exposure.
  13. Punch a tree to get wood, make a pick out of wood, dig through rock to find iron...wait...

    Remove Kill messages in chat

This is a fantastic idea. It's actually one of the things that drew me to games like Red Orchestra, where kill notifications are significantly delayed. A sniper sitting in the woods shoots a guy and then all is quiet. Well, he now has two choices. Go down and check it out, or keep waiting. Does he go for the gear, risking a surprise attack by an enemy that has had time to reposition and possibly reinforce? Prime example of addition by subtraction. Obviously it is not limited to snipers- anybody in conflict will deal with it. Guns and equipment are not the most dangerous items in this game. The most dangerous weapon is information.
  15. The ultimate weapon: sexual harassment litigation.
  16. If anything, you could move a cow or goat into the forest so you didn't have to gut and butcher it out in the open.

    Survivor zombies...

I was responding to the second poster. Are you responding to me? I didn't propose anything like that. In fact I was agreeing with your original concept. The problem now is that dead players can't possibly get up because these zombies are not undead ghouls, they are infected living human beings. If you had a chance of getting infected after being attacked it would make things more feasible in the spirit of the game. After a period of time you would 'die', meaning you would no longer control the entity, but it would from that point on act exactly like a regular zed. There would have to be a way to counteract it though, but the problem there is that there does not seem to be a cure for this disease, or at least, not in Chernarus. But for simplicity's sake, it might be treated with regular antibiotics which already exist in the game and seem fairly rare.

    Survivor zombies...

These zombies are not undead, they're infected. The only way for that to happen is for your character to become infected and not eaten, which is what the zed do when they've finished killing you. What you want is a chance for your character to become infected after contact with zombies. Would you propose a method of treating the infection? Sorry, OP. I actually think that's a good idea. Some survivor must have gotten the disease and ended up walking around with a sixgun and a backpack full of beans.
  19. Being a pretty new player, I've actually started to prefer night games. Honestly, they're safer. In my defense, I haven't gone to NW or NE airfields yet- not until I have some better equipment, but I've been able to avoid some pretty nasty situations because of the darkness. I've been on patrols in real life where it was overcast, clear, in the desert and in the forest, and nothing was ever as dark as it was in this game. But still, the cover of darkness is a powerful tool and I've been living in it for a while now. Get used to it. One thing to do is throw a flare into a town whenever you see one- and then run in the woodline on your merry way. Anybody in the area- survivor and bandit alike- will tend to focus on the light source. And you can even hear it in chat, too. Act like you're in the town and friendly...there are tons of way that an ill-equipped player can survive readily in complete darkness. Watch the map though. With basic land navigation you can avoid big areas and cover your movement. Running across massive fields is a bad idea day or night, but I do it, because I'm so hard. Towns are generally bad, though a lot of them have barns and stores on the outskirts that are exploitable without much trouble. Then pop that flare in the middle of town and beat feet to the next objective. Seriously, fellow n00bs. Nighttime is the place to be. Just stay out of Elektro.
  20. Most accurate sight picture I've seen in a game is probably Red Orchestra 2. Red Orchestra also has great Nazi/Commie trash talk. Arma seems to accurately portray bullet flight paths, which, despite shooting assault rifles for a living, still takes getting used to in a video game. Most games have perfectly flat flight paths and bullets with unlimited range. I prefer servers without crosshairs, even though blasting zombies at 50 meters with a pistol shot from the hip like James Cagney is great fun, it's 100% bullcrap. Also if you've ever tried just walking and shooting, you're limiting your effective range to about...across the street, max, for the average person. That's why we have grenade launchers...and Bradleys. Most people aren't starring in a wild-west show. Sound tactical planning include a thoughtful consideration of your physical condition when you prepare to shoot- not just where you and your target are. Thats why I like how the heavy breathing and shock in some of these games have a distinct effect on your sight picture.

    Gun fires randomly

I don't know if it is a 'feature' or not, but my gun fires randomly. At first I thought that maybe, just maybe, it was because I was running too much and it was there to simulate nervous reactions...but then I was walking through a town and all of a sudden it fires, attracting a horde. In a separate instance I had drawn the attention of a bandit, successfully eluded him, and then my gun fires twice in about two minutes. So is this a feature, bug, or am I the only one who experiences this? I have been searching for an answer last night and can't find anything.

    Gun fires randomly

I'm using a razer bluetooth mouse with the cord attached and bluetooth turned off. My router is wireless, but I connect through ethernet cable. My phone is placed elsewhere. But still...you never know. Well, over the weekend I tried a few different things. I took the router off the desk and moved it far from the mouse. I even turned the wireless function of my laptop off. The problem still occurred. I was playing last night and everybody was experiencing quite a bit of the recent FPS drop- and several other people mentioned that their guns were going off. I sometimes have it happen 2-3 times per minute. I have been working around it by equipping a main, even if I have no ammo for it, and putting it away. But yes, it simply raises it- which can be problematic if being chased but is otherwise just a nuisance. I also make sure not to alt-tab during play, but it made no difference. I even tried playing in window, which had no impact. I have logged on to a few servers where the game ran quite smoothly and the problem ceased to exist for as long as the smoothness lasted. After a while, the game got choppy and my FPS fell gradually to about 5-10fps (from ~40 when I logged on) and my gun started firing itself. Luckily I was high in the mountains and it didn't make a big scene or anything. Actually, come to think of it, I forgot to do a control test where I unplugged the mouse and just ran around with my pistol out, navigating clumsily with my trackpad. I'll try that next time I play. But knowing that its happening to others under similar circumstances makes me think it's something else. So, with that in mind, I'm left believing that the problem is related to (if not caused by) the framerate drop. I have even had my character stop and do other things, like stop and go into a crouch, or stop and stand up straight. When the FPS drop is in effect, everything is all jacked up it seems. The inventory doesn't work quite right (relative to its regular function) and input is lagged as well. I'm computer literate but I don't know many details about conflicts and codes and techno jibber jabber...could the erroneous left-click emulation be linked to the FPS problem?

    backpacks did it again

How many slots do you need to put a Makarov magazine into a backpack? I have entire loads of ammunition disappear regularly. I just had my makarov and 6 magazines vanish into thin air while I was looting because I had the audacity to attempt to put a magazine into my alice pack to make room for a bandage. But hey, thank God the precious beans never disappear, right?

    Gun fires randomly

Ok. I guess then the only way to stop this is to stay alive long enough to find another weapon. Thanks.
