What would be some reliable private servers where your gear gets saved?

Hey all. A friend bought ArmA II: CO today and decided to play it with me to team up with someone else I am already teamed up with. We met up in the game (the person I was already with) and logged out safely. Then, I was logging in and out of some servers, to see if it was raining or night/day to see what server I could play on. Then, I logged on to an official server (I always play on official servers, because your loadout gets saved) and my loadout was not there. My character was like wiped of my items, and I didn't die, nothing happened. I just logged out of an official server, logged on to another official server, and my items and gear were not there, and I spawned at the coast. I am extremely angry about this, as you can tell, because I did not die, nor did I glitch or even get attacked. My loadout was just erased. Also, the controls for my game changed (I think). What the hell happened? How can I get my items back?
