Is there any way of reading altitude of any coordinate on the map?
nnccmm replied to HHRoblox's topic in Technology/Programming
There's no such program. Use the contour lines, or walk around with a GPS. It has AMSL, the little mountain icon at the top of it. -
For those who haven't seen it yet.

With the release of standalone getting closer, and anticipation getting higher, I just felt like getting a quick census of how people feel about Mission Making. An Editor in DayZ Standalone would be pretty cool, no argument there. Pros Test out and practice with weapons Develop tactics Practice flights (flying will be a lot more difficult in SA) Make cool scenarios Cons Information easily gathered (the new DayZ guide could be out in a week) Would delay the release of standalone even further Script usage No bias, feel free to point out any other pros and cons that may have slipped my mind.

With the progress they're making I'd be surprised if they couldn't make a release in June. You guys are doing such a great job, keep it up developers! -

"All changes are still pending this is not a final changelog. This is your chance to bring up anything you don't like" Excuse me for sharing my two cents.

Aight, first off - I don't use the M107 or AS50, I prefer the DMR But secondly, they really shouldn't be removed. Nothing is overpowered in warfare, you use what you need to use to have the advantage in a battle. You wouldn't see a soldier yelling at the enemy squad because they're using 7.62 while you're using 5.56. Snipers exist in real life, so why should they be removed from the game? Just flank around the hill and sneak up on him with a hatchet. There's thousands of servers, if you're really so soft that you can't stand that sniper in Elektro with the M107, switch to another server, don't come cry on the forums about it. First it was the entire goddamn community tearing into eachother about a few cans and bags of food. They said they wanted realism. Well, they removed those. Thermals exist (maybe not the scope on the L85, but there's other thermals), they removed those. 50 cals exist, now they removed those. Not proud how the devs are caving in to pressure.

We don't know the full story. (Presumably) the world is affected by the outbreak, so after the major cities were overrun, they could have tried to secure a more isolated area, hoping for a job they can accomplish. It's up to the devs how they'll play out (if they play out) a backstory.

Here's my two cents. Chernarus is a post-soviet state, I think we all know that. A large landscape like this, we can expect a population anywhere from a few hundred thousand to millions, still don't know how the map will be. But anyway, how it would probably play out is local law enforcement will try and step in to handle it. They'll fail. Then, the military will get involved. They too, will fail. After that, foreign organizations such as NATO will try and contain it. Obviously, everyone who tries to step in will fail. Local Law Enforcement Police Officers Common Law Enforcement weaponry from Russian Police Officers can include... GSh-18, Walther PPK, Makarov PM, Saiga 12S, OTs-2 Kiparis, BRF Revolver Russian officers are actually pretty loaded out.. dayum! Onto more serious law enforcers, like the OMON. These guys are badasses, the SWAT Officers of Russia. They have things like... AK-74, AKS-74 Carbine, 9A-91, PP-19, PK Pecheneg, Dragonuv SVD, and my personal favorite.. the VSS Vintorez So there you go, the law enforcement of Russia could supply more guns than what you've listed. But let's keep going. Russian Armed Forces The ruskys have a lot of guns.. they're actually one of the most advanced armies in the world. I'll just go over their Ground Forces. Now of course, there's WAY too many guns to list, so I'll only go over a few. Pistols MP-443 Grach, Serdyukov SPS, PB, PSS, Stechkin APS, 6P13 APB Submachine Guns PP-19 Bizon, AEK-919K, PP-2000 Shotguns Saiga-12K Assault Rifles Like 500 of them, pretty much every AK you can imagine, probably one with a fingernail painter for christ sake AN-94s, AK-105, AS Vals, yeah. I'm not gonna list them all. Sniper Rifles SVD Dragonuv, SVU Dragonuv, KSVK, VSS Vintorez, SV-98, OSV-96 (a fucking beast) Machine Guns PKM, RPK, NSV, Kord So uhh.. yeah. The Russian Army, the guys who will probably be involved in MANY numbers, have absolutely TONS of firepower. Keep in mind these guys enter the scenario after law enforcement have failed, so that means that a civilian probably won't be coming to pick up all the guns, they'll be part of the horde. NATO/Allied Forces come after the Russian Army fail to contain the outbreak. This includes American, British, pretty much every country that has a major gun producer will be in this. That's where things like M4s, HKs, L85s come from. Of course, these forces will be numerous, and their gun types will vary. I obviously can't list the guns involved, since that would include too many to type in this forum post. These guys are at the peak of the infection, so there's not very many people to scoop them up. It's a little while after this that the game takes place. So yeah, it's pretty simple. There should not be less military stuffs, there should actually be more. But less ammo. TL;DR - More guns, less ammo.

I'm gonna go ahead and get straight to the point. The Developers of DayZ Standalone have done so much already to achieve realism in a game, and I feel a vehicle system overhaul would be in order to live up to that. In the regular DayZ, finding a vehicle can prove extremely difficult in some cases, I think there's 40 on a standard DayZ server. Now, think about in real life. There's more than 40 cars isn't there? Now, even after an infection, thousands of cars wouldn't dissapear, or be mysteriously damaged in odd ways. They would just sit, probably untouched. Due to this trait, the motor would suffer and the petrol would leak out, or most of it anyways Some tires might go flat, but that wouldn't render the car undrivable. Yes, my suggestion is to add lots more cars to DayZ. The difficult part shouldn't be finding a car, it should be getting that car to work. Of course, all cars these days have keys, so if you can't find those you would need something like hotwiring tools to start it up. Some cars could have car alarms that would ring out through the city, and depending on your tools, you could disable it instead of letting it run it's course. If you found the keys, maybe you could even use that alarm to alert you if people try and steal your car. Enough of the little things though, onto the repairing aspect. As I said, cars would usually be found unharmed, maybe a little dusty, but unharmed. The majority of them would be locked, low on fuel, and have dead engines/batteries. You shouldn't be able to find an entire engine and just fix it like that. There should be specific engine parts, and the battery should be a whole 'nother component entirely. You could either try your luck taking a battery from a different car, try and find one in an industrial area, or charge it yourself. Fuel would be extremely rare, you could never find a full drum of gas at a fuel station, since it can have many other uses besides cars. Other parts of the car, that would normally remain unharmed, should be only damaged by players/zombies, as someone abandoning their car probably wouldn't result in bullet holes in it (although it could). There's so many things to consider about the vehicle system, and I feel like this post is already unorganized (it's 3:30 in the morning) so I'll let you guys post what you think could be added. TL;DR Lots more cars You need to find keys/hotwire cars Car alarms help prevent theft Cars found in good(ish) shape More parts to a car

So maybe another use for fuel would be powering cities/areas? That could let you get more fuel (if it isn't gone already), and probably a bunch of other features that use electricity. There we go, we're thinkin!
