Will arma 3 engine be plagued by hackers too?
Shag replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
engine =! game engine is the graphics and physics. game sits on top of engine. arma = game and needs ability to run scripts to give users/mission makers power dayz = game and does not need to give users this power. dayz will prevent scripts being run on their standalone version, sitting on the RV engine. arma 3 will continue to allow scripts to be run on their latest milsim (although it appears they are learning a lot from the dayz experience and tightening many of the unneccessary commands which can be exploited). the arma games are not shitty cos they are open to scripters, it has never really had a problem with scripters before, it has a amture gaming community who understand that when you hack you are really defeating the point of gaming, and making the game boring for yourself primarily. arma needs to be open, dayz needs to be closed - this is possible. /thread -
you are technically all blufor, that is all on the same team, so yes you do see everyone's map markings. arma 2 people....

I played about 1.5 hours last night (ran to my camp and found the tractor gone and tent empty) and can confirm that 95777 on a 95777 server did not give me a global ban (or at least not yet). I have also altered some of my configs (but you are meant to they are your configs, that is what they are for). I really hope nobody innocent has been banned, I would hate that to happen to me. However, last time there were loads of global bans, we had lots of guys whining on here. I'm sure a good prtion of them are hackers.

To replace the old, "If Dayz were a standalone" thread, now that we know that Dayz is a standalone, and the engine it will run on (same engine as arma 3) we can list our new hopes and desires... To kick off, here are some obvious ones: 1) Close the engine to illicit client run scripts. Essentially cut down on the easy hacking attack vectors. 2) A more advanced fatigue, encumberance (have a reason to have more than one backpack) and inventory system. Add items to backpack based on weight and size, not slots. 3) Better modelled weapons and ammo. Many of the games weapons currently feel like clones of each other. Would be great to have different damage, damage changing from range etc, every weapon should have a purpose and an advantage. 4) Add wind to bullet physics, hopefully to make sniping more difficult. Anyone who played ACE will know that at longer distances you need to account for crosswinds. 5) Revamp blood mechanic. Blood should regen by your body over time, given enough food, water and warmth. While you're at it, cut down on food and soda. The biggest challenge should be survival. When I kill it should be for beans. 6) My biggest hope... Make zeds always in the world. Spawning zeds are just a player spotter, allowing me to kill other players at distance easily. Zeds should always be there. I don't mind if they start actively scanning for players when they are within zed detection range (cuts down on CPU utilisation) but they should always be there. There should also be many more zeds in cities (not villages they are already very tough to raid) and in unexpected places (wandering hordes for example, or odd ones in the forests). If zeds don't despawn then some may be dragged out the wilderness anyway. Post your new engine built for dayz wish list!

lol wut? way to totally not comprehend the ramifactions of a suggestion. if you do not get blood from a source other than your own body creating it, or a blood transfusion, then you are going to be vulnerable for longer. depending on the regen rate, you might be trying to find food in urban areas while surrounded by zeds while losing consciousness. You could make it so your food and water rate reduces faster when recovering. getting seriously injured might actually fuck you up for a day or two (of actual gametime) and make you think twice for getting into a pointless deathmatch firefight. At the moment i get injured, kill a cow (and there seem to be loads now) and i'm majically back in the game. is this what you want? who is the carebear now? exactly Like them, especially more randomized spawn points. I don't like the easy high grade loot in deer stands, it is all too easy with a map of where the stands are. Also, chopper crash sites should be in far flung locations of the map to encourage/reward exploration, not outside the major towns near the airfield where all the players are.

There were three guys. sad state of the game alert, not just the abort you almost did after shooting the first guy, but the fact that all four of you are in ghillie suits, with more high end gear than you can shake a stick at. Seriously everyone had silnced M9s with max clips, NVGs etc. Not saying you hacked yours, but that squad either hacked or duped like mad. They didn't seem good enough to have that gear, proved by being killed by a single guy rolling around on a hill.

I'm guessing this is why the mod has gone very very quiet in the last 2 weeks, lots going on and getting sorted in the background for the standalone. Very very good news, perhaps we will stop hearing so much hacker moaning (yes I know it sucks, but everyone knows it is a problem and will be sorted for the standalone). Can't wait for the upgraded lighting, buffed inventory interface, no more duping, jaw dropping graphics... I could go on.

some of the assault rifles cant be zeroed because they are CQB sights. others cant be zeroed, but they can in real life, like the M16 ACOG, just not implemented in arma 2 for whatever reason.
-
sounds like somebody is just fatigued from playing too much. you'll be back a mod for arma 2 will never be hacker proof, but a standalone on the engine ( hopefully arma 3) could be made hacker proof, they just need to stop the ability to run just any script from the clients.

Standalone, Arma Engine and if you would play DayZ if they separated.
Shag replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
dayz in 95% arma 2. that said, how can we answer, there are so many unknowns. perhaps a better question is, would you refuse to plays dayz on another engine, the answer is probably not. Would it be as good, who knows. As speculation threads go, it requires as big a flyer in answering as "is there a God". -
people who don't read the manual for the game that dayz has modded never cease to amaze me. better yet you should try and play arma 2 it is actually ok (little rough around the edges like dayz).

well that is reall two roles. for CQB I like the M1014 shotgun, ideal for clearing buildings. however, if you then have to guard bodies, it may be better to do so from a longer range, less danger for you. I would say the AKM, it has great stopping power so it great at close range, but you can also zero it, so great for longer ranges, up to 800m

The biggest problems facing DayZ right now
Shag replied to switch296's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Some good points. I think that tents and vehicles saved to you should disappear the second you die. I like the idea of a tent to store some weapons/ammo/food, so you can plan your load for whatever you are about to try. However, tents/vehicles that don't despawn the second you die spoil the permadeath mechanic. I'm sure this would be an easy change to make. -
everyone who plays on the same server as me is potentially a threat, especially if they have lots of hi spec gear, so i am afraid it has to go...

New way of getting blood! ( Player to Player Transfusion)
Shag replied to ProGrasTiNation's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
hmmm only a good idea if you give people a hiddne blood type. then if you give someone a player to player transfusion and your blood types differ, you die. would be kind of a good last resort, then if you discover you have the same blood type as the other guy, total bonus and massive advantage, but you gotta take a risk first :) -

How to avoid getting raped by established players?
Shag replied to rackley's topic in New Player Discussion
avoid anything high value (airfields, military camps, crashed choppers, large towns/cities). in fact choppers do spawn away from large towns and airfields, these ones will be good to approach, but stay away froom stary and the NW airfield, Berezino, Gorka areas. -
wait for the joy when you stumble on a camp, and crash site or kill a guy fully loaded out... the other day I found a chopper that was in a flyable condition. I've flown choppers in arma 2 many times, but the feeling when I got in this one and it took off was awesome! unfortunately, i didn't have a map or compass, let alone a gps, and when i tried to take it northeast, I got the the NE airfield and got turned around, managed to land it just outside the NW airfield... got sniped as soon as I landed. All good lols though.

The best MOD/GAME going down the drain
Shag replied to fuckyourocketfag's topic in New Player Discussion
sorry what do valve have to do with a mod? Nobody cares the reasons you bought arma 2, its a perfectly good game, try it. You gotta love all these people who just don't get that something is free and produced out of love for gaming not profit. Still, I can't wait for a standalone with all the attack vectors closed off.... if that is riddled with hackers, feel free to start legal proceedings (good luck with that law suit though). -
Battleye update, how've hacks been today?
Shag replied to twiloz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
killed twice by hackers, one about a month ago when he did the whole server and one about a week ago, when out of the blue i broke a leg, then died, no sounds.... I'm not sure that constitues hackers everywhere though. sounds worse on US servers. -
why would you ask and not just fucking try it? so far multiplayer wise I prefer project reality which is strictly PvP, some other arma 2... well a lot actually, seems to be PvE. It aint great, domination is dull due to the AI. If you go project reality, get in a squad and try and learn from the others, there is a steep learning curve.

Alpha Borrowed from traditional (i.e. non-games) software development, Alpha designates a key stage in a game's development. The definition of Alpha for traditional software is, according to Wikipedia: Alpha software can be unstable and could cause crashes or data loss. [...] The alpha phase usually ends with a feature freeze, indicating that no more features will be added to the software. At this time, the software is said to be feature complete. At the END of alpha, that is the Alpha build, all features in the game will be largely fully realised. NOTE: we do not yet have the alpha build, we are building the alpha build, therefore all the games features are not yet partially/fully realised.

what a moron.
