As walkerdown also ppinted out, this is just wrong based on Rocket's recent gamescon interviews. It's Arma 2 with a Chernarus++ map and some ragdolls. Please sort the HDR! Otherwise I think I will stick to the mod and wait for the inevitable port to the latest RV engine and the extra £10 cost.... but then I did just state I would have paid £30 for DayZ on the same engine Arma 3 uses, and with the very cheap pricing model I guess I can stretch to both :) I just talked myself back into buying the standaolne (both inevitable releases)

i guess but nothing is free. why spend time upgrading the arma 2 lighting when they have a new engine sat there? why not build two games off that engine instead of using their older 4 year old version?

I really like much of the interview content, some great ideas and i am really excited for the future all except one thing..... arma 2.5 engine. arma 3 engine, especially the lighting, were really a big draw for the standalone dayz. now standalone won't be worth nearly as much cash. seriously i would have paid £30 for standalone dayz on arma 3 engine. very very unhappy at this decision. the lighting in arma 2 engine IS JUST BROKEN

I got amra 2 for dayz but have certainly been playing arma 2. Playing arma 2 taught a lot about maps, tactics and helped me perfect my fighting with various weapons. in dayz you hardly ever fight players, once every so often and it is over very quickly. arma 2 gives you plenty of fighting. i dont like PvE so much, arma 2 AI is ok, but I prefer Project Reality, PvP.

not sure dayz would appeal to consoles. i have a console for games like FIFA, but shooters are better with a mouse. Many console owners don't have a PC, and I doubt would have the patience for the sandbox experience. -
Dear Mr Whitby, I suggest a little effort on your part to research the issues at hand before you demand time/effort/responses from dayz devs. Your minor amount of research and effort on your behalf would have shown what others are telling you in this thread. The hacking is from arma 2 and not dayz. It cannot be fixed until dayz becomes a stand alone and not a mod of arma 2. And have a some manners when someone makes a free mod of a game you have owned for 5 years. You can make no demands here.

when i discovered waypoints i loved the navigation bonus, but now i dont like it, its too easy. males the map seem smaller. i do like 3dp on tho, cos i like to see my char, and it makes travelling better. -

OP it geneuinely sounds like you would prefer L4D. This game isn't gonna please everyone, but it is 95% arma 2, 5% dayz. If you don't like it don't bitch, play another. Space bar to jump anyone? - priceless. I'm gonna say you're pretty young, say 15? -

I dont like skills. its flawed. what is a snipers special skill? can they magically shoot guns better than mechanics? nah I do agree with storage being an issue but necessary for deeper gameplay. I think that storage is already limited by item type, reduce the weapon item type for weapons to 1 or 2. Stop storage in vehicles, or drastically reduce it. Have items saved by a player disappear immediately upon death. Stop duping somehow in new engine. Profit.... -

Not that I don't agree slightly, that as the number of servers increase and player numbers (seem) to be dwindling due to tackers and graphical glitches, that this issue needs a little serious work (and I believe that it already is getting serious thought on the hacker side of things). However, as usual for the OPs standard of posts, he exhibits a glaring lack of knowledge about anything game development related. You, on your machine, running up and checking the glitches occur or not will not prove a thing. One of the main challenges to game dev are the huge variation of platforms the software must run on. Think of all the hardware and driver combinations it must work with. In terms you can understand OP, my machine and your machine do not display the same pictures despite running the same software. -

Its a great fix - woohoo. Less totally tooled up players running around with two rifles for every effective range possible = much better game. -
depends how competitive you are. I prefer an immersive world that draws me in and looks realistic, than getting the drop on people and having a wolrd that is blocky and looks like a 20 year old game. I win my engagements by good tactics and quick thinking.

yes please, we need more realism, and more items to find. weapon cleaing gear and jamming weapons would be awesome. weapons do eventually break actually, not physically implode, but they can degrade to the point of becoming unusable. would be coold to revamp the ammo system too, bullets and magazines, fill magazines from bullet boxes etc.

servers need to update hive to 0.7.3, perhaps this is the reason for the random spawns? I had issues last night with a 4x4 that kept disappearing and stuff in a tent that disappeared (although we did log out of ran hour so possible the tent was looted, but they took everything and there was some rubbish in there). -

my friend died and spawned back in with a head band on, which didnt show his backpack.... new bandit skin? he had a ghillie before. -
it makes navigation too wasy for sure. half the fun was getting lost before i learnt about waypoints

oh god. as i said above, there is no arma 2 engine, there is no arma 3 engine, there will be no dayz engine, there are games that use an engine, in this case real virtuality (I think 4?) an engine takes care on graphics/lighting/physics etc etc. the scripting engine is seperate from the core game engine. dayz could totally throw away the new scripting engine (which will now be using java?) that will come with arma 3 if it wanted to. games are modular (if built properly) which means you should be able to remove and bolt on features as you wish.
