I found Arma 2 through dayz and am really enjoying it. Very steep learning curve and some gut wrenching bugs/AI but a rough diamond of a game. Some moment of total gaming nirvana even in the campaign.

sounds like you're trying to play on a server that is set up to play ACE mod? did you filter the servers by mission 'dayz'?

- scale who doesn't love 225km2 of beautiful map - freedom play the game however you like Atmosphere - new atmosphere of night plus deadly zeds - filmic? light really adds to the atmosphere. Can we have fog? - upredictability zeds spawn in buildings bandits sniping (love/hate thing) finding random shit crashed choppers (can we have more rare events?) - immersion setting up camps, building fire, cooking meat, getting ill, starving etc etc I could go on.

While stealth is perhaps too hard during the daytime, I certainly don't agree they should return to previous levels. They were a joke before, which led everyone to get bored. Remember all the "what now" threads. There was nothing to do but kill other people. There are plenty of "kill other people" games.

I think stealth zed machanic is perfect in fading light. During the day things get harder. However, it seems there is more ammo spawning too. Perhaps it would be prudent to find some buddies (I know this is fucking hard) and try and clear out some zeds. I like the new aggro system. Maybe toned down very very slightly. The effects of the new zeds has really stopped much of the deathmatch BS you used to see in chenro/electro (or was that the no gun spawn). If the zed spawn rate is sorted, a new investigate state is added which buffers walking state and aggro state (investigate when they hear you/gunfire/light/smoke - aggro when they see you) and stop the crazy zig zagging - and you have a great zed recipe. YOU SHOULD BE SCARED OF ZOMBIES! -

I played at dusk/night and it works brilliantly. Daytime I beleieve you are more visible which is great. You seriously think your invisible crouching? Change the way you play. Find friends and clear the zombies out. Plan an attack, run in and have an exit route to lose the zeds. Give it a go, stop bitching 2 days after they were changed. How can you assess anything in one playing session. -

i always thought of this as a game in iteslf. find your mates. it is tough but adds a new layer to the game. nothing is easy when everything goes to shit. imagine trying to find your mates if the phone networks went down. get organsied. have a place to meet if one of your party gets killed, then all head there when it inevitably happens. find a way! -
So the goal posts keep changing. So what you have done for the last three weeks gets you killed. So you lost your stuff and now you're mad. This is all I'm reading. You should die, you should have to start again and rediscover the scary side of DayZ. Change the way you approach the game, experiment. Come up with new tactics. Change your meta game to overcome the odds - Succeed! These are the things that give you satisfaction. They have been missing for a while which is why everyone shoots noobs on the coast for kicks. I think things are really looking up for the mod, and it is totally going in the right direction. When you die, restart. Don't come on here and complain. Please come on here and discuss. Thankyouplease.

What you got to lose by getting killed at night when u spawn with nothing? Would be an idea to spawn with a light source? Last night I spawned with nothing. Well I had a bandage and a backpack though. Couldn't work it out cos I found a dead guy on the road and he had a torch... -
It seems to me you should look at investing in a server. If everyone in Oz refused to do about lack of local servers nobody would play. Start a thread, find some anzac buddies, chip in a get a server?

Best time I've had was when me and a mate teamed up with some stranger. It was back when you spawned with road flares. We took it in turns to throw/pick up a flare and had two shooters for zed. Some guy tried to kill us at a building but we outnumbered him. Made our way about 1/5 km along the coast very slowly until I had to log out. Nothing outrageous happened, but was one of the few times I played in a team and at night. Totally different game and very very fun/scary.

My biggest gripe isnt night, but the way that object shine (cans) and trees/leaves seem to pulse brighter and darker during the day. Very unrealistic. Will hop on and see if this helps the issue EDIT: OK I went on a few of the servers. Daytime looks altogether much more realistic. Night time is still very bark, but if you tweak your gamma you can tell where you are going by the light against the trees. It was an overcast night so is probably an example of night at its darkest as well. I remember the night how it used to be, total darkness. Things are much better than they used to be. Roll it out, I think it is good. -
PROTIP: Having a hatchet is going to be very useful.

Didnt read whole thread but melee weapons are confirmed in 1.7.1.2 already. In closed test as we speak. Sounds interesting. Will be fun when running out of ammo. Lets hope we get one from the start. -
