What do you think is the best sidearm in DayZ? (besides silenced pistols
GiesBeans replied to Storm Slider's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wait....the G17 has a built in flashlight? Playing for about a year, still a clueless noob. -
a BIG fuss over a small update :-/
GiesBeans replied to 5mirkeh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm really enjoying the new update. It's added a whole new dimension for me, useless weapons become vital because loot is sparse. Zombies are a threat again. The infection adds a real sense of urgency and a reason to keep quiet. You get infected, your in the shit. Unless you are lucky enough to find antibiotics. My brother and I met in Cherno supermarket, freshly spawned. Before, I had found a couple of blood bags and some antibiotics in Balota. Score. I met another fresh spawn in the church on the way to the supermarket, bleeding, infected and traveling with an entourage. I dispatched the Z's with a hatchet, healed up the fellow and gave him my antibiotics. Good karma no? Within 5 mins I was infected. Our search for decent gear became a dash to find antibiotics. Nothing in Cherno and elektro. We checked every town on the way to the NWAF, finding nice weapons (m14 and DMR) but still no antibiotics. The NWAF had none. The only reason I had survived this long is because we both found blood bags. Whilst checking the barracks, my brother also became infected. Fuck. We made a decision - run as far south as we can, searching everything again until we die. We made it to Komarovo. We ran so far and found nowt. Hope was gone. My brother put me down with a shot to the head as I saluted our efforts. Awesome. -

What Event Turned You Into A Bandit?
GiesBeans replied to simfreek@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Cherno supermarket - after observing a new spawn leg it in, followed by about 10 Z's, I decided to help. My trusty hatchet took out all the zombies, only for the player to find a pistol in the market and place a round in the back of my head whilst I was looting. Dick. I always try to make contact with a survivor that looks to be friendly, but if they don't respond I open fire. Only way to keep living, been stabbed in the back too many times. -
More sandbox Pvp then survival?
GiesBeans replied to Evilsausage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree with the OP on the servers, (although I do enjoy having a few extra buildings - I cover more of the map, as do other players) I almost think of the "spawn with xxxx" as a completely different game. Arma with zombies. Everything is more available, therefore more disposable. That only leads to bad shit. The zombies are a bit toothless, but if you get cocky, one of those zombies will knock you the fuck out, and eat your face. I lost my 32 day old character because I ran into a barracks not giving a shit, and never had enough ammo to deal with the entourage. Night time is awesome. -
I like this thread.

Playing on Namalsk, I spawned in at Lubjansk and headed for Vorkuta. It's always been kind whenever I have visited, generally not too many bandits and loot aplenty. Having looted the residential buildings and rooftops, I headed to the school. I had managed to find a Czech backpack, ghillie suit, various tool belt items and a hatchet. No gun though. I entered the school through the right entrance. I went into 1st person (just in case) and headed into the small room on the left to look for loot. Nothing. I left the room, and turned look out the door I came in. No zombies, so I turned to make my way into the school. Not an instant later a survivor with a lee Enfield sprinted in front of me. I actually got a real fright, and accidentally clicked, swung my hatchet and killed him. Saved me a trip to the supermarket. Anyone have similar lucky experiences?

Why do you shoot unarmed players?
GiesBeans replied to maninthewall's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have been killed way too many times after trusting somebody with a hatchet. The other day I met a fresh spawn in Balota, we exchanged hellos and I went on my way. He hacked me to death in the comms tower. -
Listen you wee bint, I'm a very moral player, this was completely by accident. Wind your neck in. See yourself out of the thread if you have nothing nice or positive to say. Honestly, sometimes the people bitching about the KOS'ers are just as bad as the KOS'ers themselves.

Why do you shoot unarmed players?

As a rule I do not shoot unarmed players, nothing to gain, plenty to lose. If I see a guy with a hatchet however I will shoot holes in him. F*****g hatchets...... -
Namalsk Bridge Glitch.. or hacker?!

Same thing happened to me and my brother, same place. I think it's a glitch. -
Public character finally died, day 164.
GiesBeans replied to reuben5150's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My public hive player lived to the grand old age of 132 days. L85, camo, NVG'S, GPS, rangefinders....I was tooled up fully. I broke my leg on a gate, and being that the NWAF was closest, and me having no morphine, I made my way there. Took me a good 30 mins. Just as I am nearing the runway, I hear a vehicle. UAZ. It flies past me, only 40 metres or so away. They didn't spot me, lucky. The UAZ stopped outside the hangar nearest the control tower, and three bandits pour out, looking kitted out. Just then, I spot another survivor making his way from the barracks toward the bandits. They gunned him down mercilessly. That's it then, I thought. Try and get them before they get me. I could try and hide, but they might see me and kill me anyways. My Rangefinders tell me they are around 700 metres away. One of the bandits breaks away to check out the body of the slain survivor, the other two go into the hangar. I took two shots at the guy while he is looting the body, one hit one miss. He legged it to join his mates. Then, I see one of them lean out from the hangar, half a second later I was dead. Now, either this guy was an UNBELIEVABLE shot, or something funny was going on. First off, there's no way they could have seen me when I took the two shots at their mate. They were both inside the hangar. Second, he didn't take any time to range where I was at. He leant out, I didn't hear a shot, and I died. Gutted. I suspect there may have been fuckery afoot, but I don't even know if such a hack exists. There is always the chance that my killer was just a good shot. Meh. -
New Update Makes DayZ Extremely Difficult
GiesBeans replied to GrassyKnoll's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm ok with improved Z hearing, and all the problems it brings. However, they should also have given us the ability to distract the zombies by making noise. Lobbing a bottle from a rooftop attracting every Z in a 100m circumference while you slip out the other way would really add a sense of realism. -
Any recent developments?

Public character finally died, day 164.

I wouldn't be bothered too much if I lost my gear. Apart from my L85. That thing is my most prized possession. -
Public character finally died, day 164.
GiesBeans replied to reuben5150's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My public hive character is 120 odd days old, I never in all my time playing managed to find rangefinders, NVG'S or GPS. I found all three last week. Only a matter of time before I am shot down. It will be a sad day. -
Longest time you have stalked someone?
GiesBeans replied to krihelion's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yesterday, for about half an hour, at the NWAF. Looking for NVG's (still) I headed to he barracks across the runway from the hangars. After looting and finding an M9SD, but no NVG'S, I went into the second door nearest to the entrance to hide while I grabbed some food and water. I thought I heard a zombie aggro, but casually ignored it. Seconds later, while I was about to get into my beans, a bandit comes careering past me. He doesn't see me. I ready my M4. Within 5 seconds, the same thing happens. He runs right past me and out of the barracks. Strange, he never even looked for loot. I almost run after him and open fire, but decide to lay low. After all, I didn't know that the bandit was alone. Given that he ran straight into and out of the building, he may have been trying to bait me. I crept around the barracks, peering out of every possible crack, window and doorway whilst maintaining cover. Quiet. Nothing at all. I decided to make my move. The thought had occurred to me that I was running into a trap, that I wouldn't make it ten feet from the entrance. It had been 120 days since I started my journey, and this was the most I have feared for my life. Might as well go down fighting I thought. I burst out of the building, ready to meet my fate. A solitary zombie shuffled awkwardly across the grass. The bandit never knew I was there... Lucky. After the close encounter, I decided to leave the NWAF. Just as I round the corner, after refilling my water bottle, in the distance, I notice the bandit. I decided to head to the hill that looks on to the front of the hangars. I could watch him from a safe distance, unseen, and still be close enough to take the shot if need be. So I watched him loot the hangars one by one, before checking out the control tower and the fire station. After that, he headed back across the runway towards where we first crossed paths. I wondered where he was going, but then I noticed he had picked up a shiny new sniper rifle in one of the hangars. He was headed for the tower, on the south of the runway. only business a bandit had there was murder. I tracked him from my position, waiting for the right time. He made it to the top of the structure, and preceded to turn and look right at me. Or at least it looked like it. I held fire. He turned to look out onto the hangars. I zeroed him at around 400m, using my L85, and took the shot. One shot, one kill. Poor bastard never had any inkling I was watching. -
This thread seems likely.

Being a Lone wolf, you should consider it.
GiesBeans replied to mitor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have been a lone wolf for a good while ( my character on the official server is 115 days old, and has a GENUINE antique L85 AWS). I'm pretty geared up, but the search for NVG's and Rangefinders keeps me entertained. After going solo for a few weeks, I teamed up with a few friends on other maps/servers. They didn't really take it too seriously, and mostly spent their time fucking around. So now I'm back to lone wolf. Off topic slightly, but anyone else HATE the 700+ vehicles etc servers? I remember when finding a ride was a challenge, in the first 2 months of playing I seen a total of 1 chopper. Nowadays it seems like everybody has a vehicle of some description. Weapons all over the shop, the 'epic bases' servers..... Takes the fun and intensity right out of it for me. Sorry for the change of subject. -
Namalsk: survival guide. [UPD3]
GiesBeans replied to Gordon Axeman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think with the most recent update it has got the balance just about right. When the new features were introduced it was too hard, but I'm finding that bloodsuckers aren't too common now (on first attempt after the initial update I was chased by 6 of the buggers). When I play In Chernarus now I find myself easily bored when playing alone. Namalsk is where true survival is at. -
Namalsk: survival guide. [UPD3]
GiesBeans replied to Gordon Axeman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good guide mate. Namalsk really is a challenge now. Loving it. Adds a new dimension when you have to keep you wits about you even when travelling across seemingly quiet areas. -
Some of the posts in here are moronic. NEED MOAR INFO..... It's a fucking game. Like my mum used to say when I asked when tea was ready "you will get it when it's ready"

When was the first time YOU killed someone in DayZ?
GiesBeans replied to tacticalbanana's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My first kill was in Lingor, I had just logged in and my brother had barely survived a battle with a bandit. He was alive, but had lost a lot of blood and was passing out frequently. I set out to save him. I forget where he was, and where I was, but he was a good bit away. The server was getting busy, I knew he needed help. So I ran. Just as I was approaching a petrol station, I heard a vehicle. I immediately hit the deck. He passed me on my right, and pulled up into the petrol station, to refuel. I weighed up my options - Give up my position (he hadnt seen me) and ask for help, or kill the guy and take the car. I wasn't sure this guy could be trusted (hadn't been playing for long, and interactions with other players was rare) so I lined up the shot. I hesitated. Was I being unfair? Would this guy help me if I asked him? Is it ok to exchange one life for another? Something made my mind up. Gunfire. CLOSE. I took the shot. Sprinted to the car. Started the engine and never looked back. I saved my brother. You never forget your first. -
Do you ever feel bad, or regret a kill?
GiesBeans replied to tals975's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was always a friendly player, helping out those in need, even if it was at the expense of my own life. I once helped a random player fight his way out of a zombie nightmare at the NWAF, he was trapped in the comms tower, very little ammo, no way out. I ran in like a boss, lee Enfield dropping Z's left and right. He escaped, I did not. That's dayz, I mused. However, I have been stabbed in the back, murdered in cold blood, been left to die by those who have no remorse. In Namalsk last week, after helping an unarmed fellow with 2 bloodsuckers on his ass take them out, and then give him a transfusion and help him find a weapon, he promptly shot me in the head. On side chat I asked......"Why?" The reply? "Survival" Thing is, he was right. I had food, water, weapons.... He had nothing he needed to live. It was a just murder. So nowadays, I do what I need to. I will kill for supplies if I really need to. I will hunt down anyone perceived to be a danger to my life. If you open fire, it's game on. If its a them or me situation.....it's not going to be me if I can help it. And I do it all without remorse. Why? Like that guy said, "Survival"
