  1. I think we can shorten it even farther with [3dp=1 CH=0 NT=0] compared to: [3dp=On CH=Off NT=Off] [3dp=1 CH=0 NT=0] [3dp=On CH=Off NT=Off]

    server admin questions

If you are launching the console on the box that is hosting the server, you need to use 127.0.0.1 as the server IP. If the cfgdayz\BattlEye\beserver.cfg is empty, try adding RCONPASSWORD = yourpasswordhere to the first line. There are basically two settings allowed in that file RCONPASSWORD and MAXPING.

devs help please cant enter buildings...

I think that most of the time, if you look hard, you can find a way through the wire. I walked into the factory area on a server the other day and found the entire area covered in barbed wire but, after some looking was able to find an area in which they created an S-Curve through the wire to be their point of entry/egress.
  4. BEC will transmit global connect notices but, I don't know for sure if it transmits the disconnect notices.

An Open Letter to the Developers.

While I feel that the size of the post is a bit large for the response requested, I also feel that it speaks to a larger issue on which the OP did not ask for Dev action. There is a post which contains a very clearly defined set of 'handcuffs' for the hosts/admins and this post has not been updated to include many of the clarifications that have been handed down through other means of communication. In my mind, I see our current situation like this: The Speed limit is posted at 45 mph. A car (admin/host) goes by at 50 mph and a crazed citizen decides that they need to enforce the law. They chase the car down and perform a citizens arrest. Another car (admin/host) is travelling at 45 mph but, has it's hazard lights on. Even though it is not stated anywhere that you can not drive with your hazard lights on, this offends the other citizen because, in their opinion, it just makes sense that you shouldn't drive with your hazards on, so they chase down the car and perform a citizens arrest. Now, in the real world a citizen who performs a citizens arrest must take into account that he is putting himself at risk because there are certain laws you are breaking just by detaining someone. These laws are normally overlooked if it is proven that the individual you caught is able to be convicted of the crime of which you have accused them. If not, the citizen is very likely to face charges. What we have in this community are tons of vigilantes who have been encouraged to do or say whatever they want because there are no repercussions for their actions. They will throw accusations with little or no proof and most of their proof is incredibly circumstantial. "I have a screen shot of a server list where there are locks on the servers, so they must be locking it to gain an advantage," is a perfect example. You want to reduce the number of random accusations, enforce a penalty for false reporting.

    Admin shouts

Technically, BERcon allows you to send Global announcements through it even if the standard Global chats are disabled for players.

    GUID Check

The GUID is tied to the software package of the game. This is a common illegal copy of the game and that is why you see it in so many places.

    Hacker(s) on NY47 / id517

Rakajj, Hit me up this evening and I'll show you how to check your server logs. That will give you the GUID of the player spawning in the nukes/satchels/etc.

    US 28 Chicago 22/US 27 Chicago 21 Locked

Rakajj, While I know you like to troll WildGunsTomcat, I would appreciate if you could at least provide input when you are involved rather than jumping into any and every thread that has to do with our servers and trying to incite problems. It is in no way helpful to anyone. You make statements about our servers being the most complained about and I can assure you that you are completely incorrect. I would estimate that we have had less than 10 complaints of any type overall. I'm sure you would not appreciate me trolling every post that comes up about your server.

    Side chat re-enabled?

You can setup BEC to prevent people from using Side Channel. If they use it, they will be warned and if use is continued it will kick them.

    US 27 Name Kick?

Hi, Most likely that is being caused by our BEC application. I didn't think we had the forced ASCII characters turned on but, it might be. I'll have to check the server tonight when I get home from work. If you want to get in before then you could always change your name to 'Liquidator Oblivion Knight' as I believe that is the appropriate translation.

    US 28 Chicago 22/US 27 Chicago 21 Locked

I performed yesterdays update to the servers from work because both of us were working so, none of our admins were even available to play during the time period in question. If you continued to see it locked over a period of time, it was because BEC continued to lock it due to having the maximum number of connecting players. Thank you for pointing it out though, I had forgotten that I had lowered the player count in US 27 Chicago 21 so I will update that again this evening.

I'll pull the server logs this evening and see if I can get his information. Thank you for reporting it.
  14. I think most of the points have already been made but, I just want to lay out a few items in an easy to contemplate way. 1. DayZ is not ready to have to commit to a working product in exchange for charging the player base. 2. Server Owners pay anywhere from 5 to 15 times the amount that a player would be charged to provide a service that they may not even be able to play on in addition to putting in the time to support and update their servers. I would estimate that I spend 4 hours a week in support actions. Taking the Median US salary (although I think we all know that most server owners are more likely to make 5 times this amount) of $26364, they donate a cash value of their time of around $50 a week on top of that. 3. In return for this goodwill, the Server Owner is not necessarily allowed to play on their server and when they attempt to administrate their server they need to be prepared to be attacked by everyone on this forum because the precedent has been set that a server owner is never to be trusted. 4. I would happily pay $50/month to play this un-guaranteed alpha in a centralized server format because I would be saving hundreds of dollars a month even at that price and would no longer be caught in the middle of players who want good administration and players who want to rape a server that is handcuffed by a community that has empowered them to do so. 5. You talk about not wanting to owe the players a functional game because they are paying for it but, what about what is owed to the Server Owners. They put way more on the line, knowing full well that they game is in Alpha. I want a working game as much as the next guy but, I'd settle for a little respect and gratitude for the service I am providing to both DayZ and the community instead of being burned at the stake because one guy who claims that I restarted the server because he stole my car.
  15. Well, the hosting rules do not allow for the Server to be locked at any time, no matter how good your intentions are or how valid your reason to have it locked. I agree that it is strange that you pay for the server (I do as well) and you can't enforce the rules you want or kick to make room for clan mates, etc. but, we all have to host by the same rules with this mod. Otherwise, the next person to lock their server to 'stream' may not be as honest as you and your crew.
  16. On a machine that is capable, VMWare will run like a well oiled machine. Now, you throw VMWare on a second rate system and you'll get a virtual machine of whatever allocation of the second rate system. VMWare doesn't create instability, stupid system administrators do.

    The rules sucks!

Well, the OP does have a point but, maybe this is a language disconnect. Admins have the tools but, are handcuffed when it comes to enforcing rules if they are concerned about their status with the DayZ Team. The admin to whom he was speaking may just be giving warnings because the offense (not mentioned by the OP) is not included in the two specifically declared kick-worthy offenses.

    The "Lazy Owner" Issue

I can see both sides of this debate. If there are a bunch of people paying for a server, you'd at least think that they'd be able to play on that server. Then again, if you allow them to always play on one server, they get a different experience than everyone else who is bouncing between servers. I feel that the people who pay for the server should be allowed to play on the server. Maybe it would be appropriate to put a limited reservation allowance. I pay good money for a top of the line server. I don't want to be forced to play on a second rate system. If you want to enforce that people play on multiple servers, raise the minimum requirements on the servers. I think that kicking AFK players should be done automatically. There are lots of people trying to play and someone standing AFK in a server is wasting that space. I would like to see the DayZ server able to monitor for the AFK as it performs saves rather than the individual servers doing it. There should definitely be actions in place to ensure that admins don't abuse their power. Ultimately, you are asking for a managed server solution, and even with managed servers you get the same expectation of being able to play on the machine for which you paid.
