Me too, but don't have the bright idea to try it out from a deer stand as some zombies can climb faster than monkeys on crack and you'll be over-run in less than a minute.

The Lee Enfield is an old school battle rifle, being purposely built for military use rather the conversion of a hunting rifle (Mauser KAR98) or target rifle (Springfield 1903) into a battle rifle. While it should do very similar damage to the 7.62 NATO round used in the M24, I'd expect the accuracy of the modern M24 to be far superior to that of a well-worn Lee Enfield (out of service globally in the early 1960s) that didn't exactly have a match grade chamber to start with.

You can butcher and quarter a deer with an axe, but you're going to need something thin and sharp like a knife to gut and skin one. I have this very bad bambi habit of getting a decent weapon from a deer stand and then being very rubbish at finding food and water. I can usually find a knife, hatchet and water bottle early on, but matches seem to disappear when I'm around.. I'm starting to suspect that surviving any length of time out in the wilderness is going to require a quick run into a town to get stocked up on basics first rather than heading straight out into the woods. -
I think there's enough immersion breaking weapons in the game already without adding those that haven't been manufactured for 70 years or weren't manufactured at all.

Civilian hunting/fishing gear in plain greens and browns are surprisingly hard to see in the woods.

M4A1 CCO SD running STANAG SD mags will allow you deal with both living and undead problems very quietly if you play as a loner.

I'm thinking that it would cost less for you to buy / build a modern gaming PC than upgrade yours as you'd basically have to throw everything away apart from the case.

Short of rifles that have a permanently attached bayonet, I think you'd be unlikely to find one for any of the modern weapons scattered about Chernarus as I don't think bayonets are actually issue items for NATO armies these days.

Far more likely to find a Mosin than a SMLE No.4 MK.1 in a former Warsaw Pact country. Depending on where Chernarus is supposed to be, there might be some German WW2 equipment tucked away in grandad's shed too..

Replace thermal L85 with L85 fitted with original SUSAT or recent ACOG. Thermal weapon sights should be extraordinarily rare as only Tier 1 SoF units would have these fitted to small arms.

DMR & M24 mags should be convertible to and from FN FAL mags

They all fire the same round, but all have very different proprietary magazines. A feature to allow the player to unload a magazine into a gear pile and then load a different magazine which takes the same round would fix this. In answer to why you'd want this feature, it's because this is what you do in real life. Say I've got a FAL with 5 rounds left in the mag and I find a DMR mag with 10 rounds in it. I empty the DMR mag into my hat before dropping my FAL mag and manually loading the extra 10 rounds into it. I then have a FAL with 15 ronds and can toss/keep the DMR as the mood takes me. -

DayZ Commander takes care of all the downloading and patching required. Fire it up and you'll see Install/Update on the menu line at the top right of the DayZ Commander console. -
ARMA 2 CO is half price on Steam right now (£12.49 in UK). Buy that, run Operation Arrowhead once, DL and install DayZ Commander (which takes care of all the mod installs for you) and you're good to go.

Mine's an old Counter Strike tag, given to me by the LAN club organizer when I worked for a cellular network operator and was part of their terminals (devices) team. He'd seen me pull a stoppie in the car park on my old Suzuki GSX1100 that morning and thought the tag fitting as my riding style then was somewhat reckless..

Installed DayZ Commander yesterday to see if it would free me from having to manually update things on my Steam based setup. I was so impressed when it did that AND provided a much more user friendly server browser that I donated $10 to the Devs.

Purchased ARMA 2 CO last night just to play DayZ to get my aged brain around the interface before the standalone comes out. Have only played for 30 minutes so far, but trying to avoid zombies in the dark after managing to lose my flashlight (didn't read the inventory guide first..) was very nerve wracking. For the price same as buying a round of drinks in London, I just know I'm going to get many hours of entertainment out of this game.
